Tekken Hwoarang – The Master of Tae-Kwon-Do

Hwoarang (pronounced ‘hwah-rlang’) is a Tae-Kwon-Do master, who has vowed to dedicate his life to training after he once fought Jin Kazama (Tekken Hwoarang was previously undefeated against all opponents). Hwoarang’s main motivation for participating in the King of Iron Fists Tournament is to face Jin again, regain his pride, and prove himself invincible. Finally facing Jin, the Tekken Hwoarang defeats him, only to see Jin transform into Devil Jin and knock him out in one fell swoop. Hwoarang now has a new purpose: to train even harder than before and defeat Devil Jin.

Hwoarang is loved by many as he can produce some of the most dazzling and deadly combos in the entire game. My particular favorite of his combos is the ‘bike kick’, in which he throws his opponent into the air, before kicking him back over his head, just like a football player would when hitting the ball. .

In Tekken, Hwoarang is known for his Tae-Kwon-Do moves and unique style, which no other character in the game possesses. Due to this style, most of his attacks come from kicks rather than punches (in fact, he could be seen as the exact opposite of boxer Steve Fox). Tekken Hwoarang is also unique in the way that it has two sets of moves; one for your left posture and one for your right posture.

You can do different movements depending on which leg is facing forward. This posture can be easily changed, but it can be confusing when changing from looking left to looking right, and vice versa. These multiple stances make it extremely difficult to play as Hwoarang, which is why I would not recommend him to newcomers to the game, as he can be a very frustrating character to play.
