Ice fishing is great in Eagle River Wisconsin

This is not the case in the winter. You would be hard pressed to tell the difference between a northern winter and a winter walleye in a blind taste test.

Panfish are usually caught by jigging. Some anglers have good success on the Tip Downs. Tip downs typically have a wooden support next to the hole and a rod, wire, or even umbrella extending from the top. When the fish bites, the wire bends down. These are good setups for soft biting fish.

Walleye and Northern usually get caught in Tip Ups. These tip ups usually have a flag on a spring that is released when the fish bites. In my opinion the number one Tip Up is Beaver Dam Tip Up. I don’t own any stock in the company nor do I sell any of their products, they just make a very good tip. When using a tip up it is important that your reel moves smoothly without catching. Winter walleye can be skittish and if they feel a pull from the reel they will drop the bait.

Early in the season I like to use medium and large shiners through the ice for walleye. It is important that you hook the black eye just below the dorsal fin for walleye. Put that treble hook as close to the back as possible. If you hook them too deep into the body, it’s what we call a “kill hook”: your minnow will likely die quickly and will lack the movement that a well-hooked minnow has. Northerners will smack a dead minnow, but walleye like to get it moving.

Where you put your minnow in the water when you are fishing for walleye is also important. The best position is to have that minnow about 10-15 inches off the bottom of the lake. Use a depth finder first to mark the bottom. First I sink my depth finder, grab the line at the waterline, pull up about 20 inches of the line, and place a wooden match through the line. Then I put the minnow in and let the line out making sure the match is next to my spool when I put the tip in the hole.

This should help you start ice fishing. Remember, be safe and check the ice with a potato bar before you head out.

Previously, these sites simply worked with banks and “auctioned” their REO inventory, but now everywhere you go, you’ll see these $100 minimum bid auctions being advertised on these sites and others like Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com

Hey I want a $100 property, how do I get into this advertised action?

The foreclosure and REO industry is big and complicated, with many ways to profit and many ways to get burned. I won’t go into all the ins and outs of the industry and how to profit, but I would like to touch on these $100 auctions. County auctions are where a property’s foreclosure auction actually takes place. Yes, every county in every state holds these auctions on a daily basis. Each county has its own set of rules about the days and times they auction properties, as well as whether they hold their auctions online or in person. Any county in which you would like to participate will have those rules set up generally on the Clerk of Court’s website.

So, what are the steps I must follow to be able to bid?

If the county you want to participate in conducts their auctions online, you will need to create an account with that county before you can bid. Once your account is created you will need to fund it, percentages vary, but let’s say your county requires a deposit of 5% of the offer price. This game will feature 2 college football teams ranked likely in the top 5 in 2010 and will appeal not only to their fan bases, but to college football fans in general. By putting the game in prime time on September 6 (Labor Day), ESPN has made it a made-for-television event. It’s also given both programs a lot of anticipation in the offseason, and Frank Beamer, the head coach at Virginia Tech, has often said that this type of game adds a lot of focus to offseason preparation.

This game has broader implications for college football, beyond the fate of Virginia Tech and Boise State football. Boise State is a loaded team and despite being in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), and heading to the Mountain West Conference next year, they are highly ranked and considered national championship contenders. This is due to the fact that the team was undefeated in 2009, including wins over Oregon from the PAC10 and a previously undefeated TCU team.

Boise State also returns with 21 of 22 starters from last year, an almost impossible thing to do, and thus many hope they have a good chance to top the table again in 2010. If they beat Virginia Tech in September and remain undefeated, there is a great possibility that they could be playing for the BCS National Championship.

BCS scenarios are impossible to predict, and an undefeated mid-major team has been left out plenty of times, but Boise has a real edge in 2010. That would be their initial ranking in the top 5 in the polls earlier in the year, plus the credibility that it gained in 2009. Again, it’s impossible to predict all scenarios, and certainly some undefeated teams in the major conferences would lock Boise out of the BCS title game. But an undefeated Bronco team is luckier than ever to play for the title in 2010.

For VT football, this game is also a subplot in their season. The Hokies generally have a yearly goal of winning the ACC, and this game has nothing to do with that. However, this is believed to be a very promising year for the Hokies, who played but never won a college football championship. This is one of those swing years in which Virginia Tech could make a run at a BCS championship, and it won’t happen unless they beat Boise State in the opener.
