Walking Tour Of Downtown San José – Costa Rica

Downtown San José generally falls short of most of the tourist must-see places in Costa Rica. Most people don’t want to spend time visiting San Jose, but you are really missing out on seeing a really vivid part of Costa Rica. It sure is stuffy and smoggy, but a lot of people visit New York City. And while you can now fly directly into Liberia so you can hit the beaches without even stopping in San José, the fact is that most people still fly into San José International Airport, so why not take a walking tour? through downtown San Jose?

Here is the route I take my friends on when I visit Costa Rica. Depending on how interested you are, this tour can take several hours, even a full day.

If you have a rental car, parking is very cheap. I like the parking lot across from the Omni mall so that’s where I’ll start this tour. Head east to Calle 4, Avenida central near the Plaza de la Cultura, where you’ll see lots of people and pigeons hanging out along with the street preachers, comedians, and musicians all performing live. Across the square is the famous National Theater. It opened its doors in 1894 and it is beautiful. Guided tours are available. Opposite the theater is the Gran Hotel de Costa Rica. What is the most famous hotel in Costa Rica. It used to be the most exclusive and luxurious hotel in Costa Rica. They have a nice outdoor cafe where you can have a coffee or a drink and a snack. Their sandwich de jamon (ham sandwich) is delicious. There is also a casino inside the hotel if you like to gamble.

Back at the theater and down the grassy steps of Calle 5 is the ICT tourist information center. It is open Monday through Saturday 9-1, 2-5. From there, you can enter the plaza’s underground exhibits, including the Gold Museum, which features pre-Columbian artifacts. Admission is $6 and it is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The main street of the Plaza de la Cultura has been converted into a pedestrian walkway so you can walk freely as cars are not allowed. Keep an eye on your valuables and don’t wear jewelry that could be snatched by thieves. Here you will see many shops and restaurants vying for your attention on both sides of the streets.

Some good stops include La Casona which is outside the pedestrian mall, just look to the right on Calle Central and you will see it. It is a two-story building full of typical Costa Rican souvenirs. You can take care of all your gifts for friends and family right here. You will also see the Universal Library, which is one of the oldest stores in Costa Rica. You can buy gadgets, maps, books and more. You will also see Libreria Lehmann another great bookstore.

There you will notice a large monument to the democracy of Costa Rica which is a group of bronze peasants standing humble but firm looking up with pride. It is in front of a large building that is the Central Bank. Keep walking and you will pass La Gloria, the largest department store in Costa Rica. On the other side of La Gloria is the Banco de Costa Rica, a huge black marble building.

Head towards the Central Market. The market is packed with shops, restaurants, produce stalls, and more. It covers the entire block of Avenida Central 1 and streets 6-8. This is a great place to enjoy the daily life of local Costa Ricans. You’ll also find some interesting foods and meats on display. There are herbs that are sold for medicinal use with claims to cure ailments.

If you are claustrophobic or don’t like crowds, don’t visit the market! Two blocks further down is the historic Central Post Office building. If you are a stamp collector, visit the second floor where they have a museum of Costa Rican postal history with rare and vintage stamps on display.

Return to the Plaza de la Cultura to the north passing the ICT offices and the Gold Museum.

You will see a park in the middle of the city, which is Parque Morazán. It is close to the Aurola Holiday Inn. In the center of the park is the Temple of Music, inspired by the Trianon in Paris.

Head 2-3 blocks north and you’ll come across Parque Bolívar and the location of the San José Zoo, which is open daily from 9-4:30. Admission is only about $2.00.

To the east you will pass Parque España, which is full of plants and trees in the middle of the city. Continue down Avenida 7 and you will see the Casa Amarilla, which is the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It has a nice park in front. Both donated by Andre Carnegie. Nearby is the National Culture Center open Tuesday-Saturday 10-5. It houses a museum and theaters. Nearby is the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, also open T-Sa 10-5. Admission is $3 and they have art and exhibits from around the world.

Up the hill on Ave 7 is the Biblioteca Nacional, which is the national library. It is in front of the largest park in the city, the National Park. Check out the National Monument that honors the battle against freebooter William Walker. The statue was made at France Rodin Studios and shipped to Costa Rica.

Across the street from the park, you will see the statue honoring Costa Rican hero Juan Santamaría holding his torch and the Legislative Assembly that runs the Costa Rican congress.

Two blocks south of the National Park is the National Museum open Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 to 4:30. This is a very popular tourist attraction. Admission is $4 and you can tour the old Fort of Bellavista. Bullet holes from the 1948 civil war can still be seen. Excellent exhibits in Spanish and English.

The next stop after the museum is the Plaza de la Democracia. It can be seen from the museum. This is fairly new built in 1989 to commemorate democracy. It features a statue of José Figueres, hero of the 1948 civil war. Former president who abolished the army after the civil war. The plaza is lined with tent stalls selling everything from clothing, jewelry, hammocks, and handicrafts.

Places to eat

There are several great places to grab a quick bite to eat, a cup of coffee, or a cold beer. For a good cup of coffee and a delicious bagel, yes, Bagel-Bagelmen’s is a must. Located on Avenida Central in Barrio California Centro.

Giacomin. Italian-style coffee and pastries. Located near the Fischel pharmacy in downtown.

FINRA Form 211 and get your stock traded

In order for your stock to trade, no matter how it went public, the stock must be listed on Pink Sheets, the OTCBB markets, or a stock exchange. For small businesses, this means getting stock trading on Pink Sheets or OTCBB.

To have a trading market, you need one or more market makers. This market maker must be a broker-dealer who is a member of FINRA and is registered with the SEC.

To begin trading, a market maker must file a Form 211 with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, FINRA, and create a market in its stock.

A FINRA rule says market makers shouldn’t charge a fee for filing a Form 211. We surveyed all market makers listed on Pink Sheets last year and all but one wanted a $10,000 “due diligence” fee. or something similar to file Form 211. Given the expense and time involved, and the likelihood that filing a fraudulent business reflects poorly on them, we can hardly blame them for wanting to do their due diligence. Other than that, we believe that a market maker should be willing to file a Form 211 if he believes substantial business will be developed from trading the stock. Market makers make money primarily on volume.

FINRA processes Form 211 and requires that there be enough unaffiliated shareholders with freely tradeable shares to make trading of the shares possible. They do not want this stock to be concentrated in a few hands.

You will need to document in detail how these shares were offered and sold and demonstrate that this complied with all SEC and state securities laws and regulations. These shares must be purchased in a bona fide investment transaction and not simply given away to shareholders.

You will need to show that your company is not a shell company as defined in Rule 144. You will need to show that you are in a bona fide business with assets and at least be a development stage company.

You will need to produce a list of shareholders from your transfer agent that clearly shows the shares are freely traded and an opinion from your securities attorney that these shares are, in fact, freely traded and unrestricted shares. FINRA can stop Form 211 if you have any connection to unsavory characters. or if there is something else they don’t approve of.

If FINRA does not approve your Form 211, you have the right to appeal to the SEC. We would expect that any such appeal is likely to be unsuccessful.

Obtaining the correct documentation, obtaining a proper list of shareholders, and selecting a market maker are all important steps in the process.

Arm Workouts For Women That You Can Do At Home – No Gym Required

Arm workouts for women are one of the hottest topics I see women interested in. Of course, most women are interested in exercises to improve their legs and butt, but after that it has to be the arms.

Hollywood has a huge influence on how we see ourselves, regardless of whether we are male or female. Most of the female leads have amazing arms. Ripped triceps is one of my wife’s biggest goals and it’s mostly due to seeing some of the latest beauties on the big screen.

Like most improvements to your body, your diet is most likely more important than the arm workout you do. Arm workouts for women or men are important to achieving the look you want, though if you have too much fat covering your muscle, it won’t matter.

Let’s say you’ve got your diet under control and you’re skinny enough to see the muscle definition that makes your arms look so sexy. If you do, then the training you do will make a difference.

The arms mainly consist of two main muscles, the triceps and the biceps. I’m going to discuss some exercises that can be done at home with little equipment that can be an effective arm workout for women.

The triceps are the muscles at the back of the upper arm and this is the area that women generally want to tighten, especially as they age.

There are many different exercises to work the triceps, including any exercise that makes you straighten your arm or push to extend your arm. Pushups, dips, triceps extensions, and triceps curls are great exercises to work your triceps.

1) Close grip push-ups

A great way to train your triceps at home or even on vacation at a hotel is with close-grip push-ups. They are similar to regular push-ups, except your hands are close together. If you’re having trouble performing these push-ups or the standard ones, try them with your knees touching or even standing while pushing against a wall. The further you are from the wall, the more resistance there will be. Don’t be afraid to do this type of wall push up at first until your strength builds. Once you do them consistently for a while, you’ll soon be able to do them from the knees and eventually the full close grip pushups. Don’t worry about where you start, just know where you’re going. If you get to the point where you can do close-grip push-ups for reps and you’re skinny enough, you’ll definitely have the sexy arms any woman would love to have.

2) Resistance Band Tricep Extensions

Triceps extensions are another great exercise and work the triceps in a different way than pushups. You can buy resistance bands quite cheaply and use them at home with many different exercises. Find a band that has an amount of tension that you can comfortably do about ten reps with. You can stand in the center of the band and have one of the handles in each hand. Extend your arms up alongside your head with your elbows pointing up and your arms bent. Keep your elbows up and don’t move your arms at the shoulder joint. Extend your arms, straightening them at the elbows and keeping the shoulder joint locked. You should be able to feel the tension in your triceps or the back of your arm. Do your reps in a slow and controlled manner throughout, stopping slightly in the top or lockout position.

If you’re doing both exercises, do the close-grip pushups first while you’re at your strongest, and finish with the triceps extensions.

bicep exercises

The biceps only make up about 1/3 of your total arm, with the triceps being a much larger muscle, but the biceps are still an important part of the look we’re going for. Common bicep exercises are curls or any other type of pulling movement that causes the arm to bend.

Chinese

There are many different types of curls that can be done, including those with barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, as well as resistance bands and suspension training.

The key to performing curls correctly, regardless of the type you do, is to keep your arms locked at the shoulder joint. Don’t move your arms forward with your shoulders, just bend your arms and lift the weight with your biceps. Start with your arms hanging by your sides and slowly lift the weight up by bending your arms, concentrating on keeping the tension in your biceps and off your shoulders.

Like push-ups, pull-ups are difficult for many people to do, especially if you’re trying to do multiple sets and more than ten repetitions per set. Just like push-ups, there are ways you can start slowly and eventually work your way up to regular pull-ups. You can put your feet up on a bench or something else sturdy and use your legs to support yourself. Another great way to “cheat” is to use a resistance band and get into the band while holding the ends with your hands. The band tension will help you with pull-ups until you are strong enough for them without help.

Pull-ups are difficult for many men and women, but the rewards are well worth it if you stick with them. If you’re a woman and you can do close-grip push-ups and full pull-ups without rep assistance, your arms will look amazing! If they don’t and you can do the exercises mentioned above, then it may just be your diet that needs to be altered. However, that will be the subject of a future article.

The latest on hangings in the Caribbean: not many! But too many!

I am an American law professor who had the great opportunity in my previous career to have lived and worked in the Caribbean. I have also been against the use of the death penalty in the United States and hope that one day the death penalty will be abolished in the United States as it has been in much of the world. While living and working in the Caribbean, I learned that many of the islands still carry the death penalty for murder. Executions are carried out by hanging. This is a barbaric practice that I would like to see ended.

Since joining the legal academy, I have had the opportunity to monitor legal trends regarding the death penalty in the English-speaking Caribbean. [hereinafter ESC]. The countries that make up the CES are: Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Dominica, Bahamas and Suriname. Most Americans don’t realize that there has been a debate on the death penalty in the ESC for over twenty years over whether the death penalty should be abolished or kept. Most Americans also don’t realize that convicted murderers are hanged. The death penalty in the ESC is a vestige of Spanish colonial rule. Ironically, England abolished the death penalty in 1991.

This article is not meant to be a gloomy report on the specifics of hangings in the English-speaking Caribbean, but rather a report that should give us hope that perhaps one day the death penalty will be abolished in the ESC; and I also hope one day abolished in the United States. In essence, we are now seeing a decrease in chokes at ESC, which I consider to be a good trend. Although many travel to the ESC for fun, sun and rum, many of the islands since the late 1990s have seen increases in crime and murder rates. Many ESC citizens believe that the death penalty is a deterrent to rampant crime and urge their governments to resist the abolition of the death penalty. Unfortunately, studies do not confirm that the death penalty is a deterrent to crime or murder.

Here is my report. I hope it serves as food for thought. Amnesty International and other human rights groups report that more than half of the world’s countries have already abolished the death penalty in law or practice. Specifically, Amnesty International reported in April 1998 that 63 countries and territories had abolished the death penalty for all crimes, while a further 91 countries, some of which are in the ESC, retain and use the death penalty. Several human rights groups have denounced what they believe to be a resurgence in the use of the death penalty in some of these ESC nations.

On October 15, 1998, at 8 am, Trevor Fisher, a 28-year-old Black Bahamian citizen, was hanged within the walls of Fox Hill Prison in Nassau, Bahamas. An hour later, Richard Woods, also black, 51, followed Fisher to the gallows. Woods was also hanged. Both had been convicted of murder. Prior to the hangings of Fisher and Woods, only two people, Thomas Reckley and Dwayne McKinney, both hanged in 1996, had been executed in the Bahamas since 1984. A local Bahamian newspaper reported that the last double hanging in the Bahamas was the September 6, 1983, when Lavan Newbold and Colin Evans were executed. Since 1942 there have been five double executions and two triple executions in the Bahamas. The last triple hanging was on January 19, 1980, when Charles Dickenson, Vernal Storr and Winsette Hart were executed.

In June 1999, over a period of three days, Trinidad hanged drug trafficker and convicted murderer Dole Chadee and eight of his co-defendants in a murder conspiracy case. These were the first executions in Trinidad since 1994, and only the second since 1979. In July 1999, Trinidad carried out the execution of Anthony Briggs, bringing the total number of executions for the year to ten. All those executed were men. However, an April 1999 Amnesty International report revealed that Trinidad was the only ESC country with women on death row. There were seventy-six men and five women on death row in Trinidad. That same report further revealed that there were seven men on death row in Antigua, twenty-four men on death row in the Bahamas, two men in Barbados, one man in Dominica, twenty-three men in Guyana, eight men in Grenada, forty-three men sentenced to death in Jamaica, three in Saint Kitts and Nevis, nine men in Saint Lucia and three men sentenced to death in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. And then all was quiet about the ESC hangings until 2008.

On December 19, 2008, as the small island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis prepared to celebrate Christmas, prison bells rang in the heart of the capital, Basseterre. Charles Laplace had been hanged that morning for killing his wife five years earlier. This was the first run at CES in eight years. The day before, the United Nations General Assembly had voted 106 nations to 46 in favor of a global moratorium on the death penalty. Contrary to the trend of world opinion, the 12 countries of the CES maintain the death penalty by statute. These countries make up a substantial part of the enforcement lobby. However, hangings have been rare of late because most of the 12 ESC nations still retain the Privy Council in London, the judicial wing of the House of Lords, as their final court of appeal. The Privy Council ruled in 1993 that the gap between sentence and execution cannot be more than five years and that successive appeals usually take longer.

So we are seeing fewer hangings in the ESC, hopefully this barbaric practice will end soon along with an outright abolition of the death penalty in the ESC.

This article is to inform novice vacation ownership consumers what to look for when purchasing a vacation ownership.

Well, there are many differences in timeshares. The variations will be listed briefly in the next award, but I’ll expand on them in depth later in this article. Some of the main differences include full week vs. property points, deeded vs. Leasing, RCI vs. II, bargaining power and availability within your club.

let’s talk week vs. points. This really relates to how you normally travel. Do you travel frequently in one week increments or do you do more weekend trips and 5 or 10 day vacations? Personally, a points system is the best option for me due to the fact that I hardly ever travel for exactly one week. Points are used as currency for your vacation. I personally own Hyatt and GEVC, and their point systems work just as well. I used to find better availability with Hyatt, but recently GEVC has had better availability.

How about the deeded and leased property? The differences here are self-explanatory. Either you own or rent the property. I want to pass my property on to my children, so my preference is to own it. I won’t be too opinionated in this article, but I stayed at a Hyatt Resort in Carmel that was phenomenal. It was priced at over $500 a night on Expedia. I ended up spending less than $500 for the entire week. So if I can give that gift to my kids as well, I think that’s great. You can also swipe right to use down most of the time as well; they simply expire after a certain number of years.

RCI and II are the main trading companies that you can trade with to go to different places other than your property. This is one of the biggest advantages of vacation ownership today. I have saved a lot of cash with my timeshare, and the exchange also allows me to maintain flexibility. As for what is better between RCI and II, both have advantages. II and RCI have very nice and very different resorts. I have a property in each, and it works fine for me. My GEVC is with RCI and my Hyatt Ownership is with II.

Learning about trading power is very important. RCI will even tell you on its own website that not all vacation properties are created equal. Buying a timeshare in a great location is priority number one when it comes to business power.

There is no shortage of gurus and Internet experts. Take a look at any industry represented online and you’ll find numerous websites and blogs that claim to be their number one source of information on the subject at hand. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. In fact, if you want to increase blog traffic and develop a trusted audience, you need to position yourself as an expert in your field.

However, the number one question to ask yourself before spending time and energy building your website is why should people listen to you?

What is the value of you?

I’ve talked before about the value of knowing who your target market is and making sure you’re giving them what they want. However, this goes a bit further than that. Let’s face it, you could probably swing a cat and hit at least ten other experts who offer the same information you provide to consumers in your market. What makes your advice better than your competition? What is your advantage?

What is your unique selling point?

A unique selling point is something that makes you stand out from the crowd. It’s something people can’t get from anyone else and the main reason your customers want to do business with you. This is why certain bloggers can command thousands of blog readers while others offering the exact same information can only command a few dozen. If you want to increase blog traffic, you need to figure out what your unique selling point is and market it as a benefit to your readers.

For example, take two different types of soft drinks: Pepsi and generic. Although generic sodas are cheaper (sometimes up to 50% less than brand-name sodas), people still buy Pepsi by the case. Why? For the taste.

Pepsi’s unique selling point is the way it tastes. That’s something that can’t be replicated in generic brand soft drinks no matter what they say on their packaging. When people buy a Pepsi, they trust that they will get the taste they are looking for. That trust drops significantly when they consider the generic brand. Even if the two brands are together with an obvious price difference in favor of the generic soda, people will pay more for Pepsi.

Likewise, people will pay more attention to you if you have a unique selling point that they like that they can’t get anywhere else.

Tips for discovering your unique selling point

Discovering your unique selling point requires some research and a lot of thought about what you’re really offering your customers.

* Look at your main competition. How are they different from you? How are they similar? Read his blog posts. Which posts get the most comments and why? Read their testimonials. What do customers say they like best about doing business with them? If customers are accessible, you could even go undercover and ask for a recommendation and see what they say.

* Assess your target market. What things are most important to them? What problems are they trying to solve with the products, services or information available in their industry? Is there a need that is not being met?

* Determine what is unique about your company. What are your values? What problems do you solve for your clients? How are your products better than your customers? If you are offering the exact same thing, how can you increase the value of them?

Finding your unique selling point may involve executing on an idea and then tweaking it over time. However, it’s worth the effort if you want to increase traffic to your website and develop a group of customers who love you and your business to the exclusion of everyone else.
