A Brief History of Miami International Airport

Miami International Airport, also known as MIA or Wilcox Field, is a very busy and well-known international airport. It is the most important airport in South Florida for international flights. It is the main hub for international airlines connecting Latin America, the United States and the Caribbean. More than 100 airlines sail through this airport serving 10,000 passengers to more or less 150 countries around the world every day.

According to the history of Miami International Airport, in 1927, the management of Pan American Airways decided to move its base of operations to Miami from Key West. Consequently, 116 acres of land along Northwest 36th Street were purchased to build the airport. Construction was completed in 1928. It then had two solid-surface runways, two hangars, and a passenger terminal. The two-story terminal building was sturdy and spacious and one of a kind in those days. On the ground floor all the facilities and services for the passengers were kept while on the upper floor were the numerous offices and a huge balcony with a brilliant view of the airfield.

Officially, the airport began operations on September 15, 1928. It was Cap. The first flight was piloted by Edward Musick, who flew a Sikorsky-38 to Havana via Key West. During its first year of operation, the Pan American Field served 8,600 travelers and 20 tons of cargo. It was renamed Miami International Airport in 1948. After World War II, the airport felt the need to expand as passenger throughput and cargo load increased daily. As a result of the acquisition and annexation of more land, the airstrip increased in size to 2,878 acres in 1951.

Miami is a famous tourist spot in America, every year more than 33.6 million tourists make use of this airport. It has been designed with a central terminal structure from which eight esplanades emerge. They are called AH and serve numerous airlines and a large number of destinations. Each esplanade has its own variety of bars, restaurants, shops, kiosks, etc. For the convenience of travellers, there are a large number of waiting rooms, ATMs, banks, post offices and commercial services spread throughout the airport.

MIA’s location is very convenient. It is located very close to the city and is just 13 km from the Central Business District of Miami. The airport is very well connected to the city by Super Shuttle, Metro bus or taxi. The Metro bus is a cheap option while the taxi is considered the most convenient way to connect with the city. The airport also offers free shuttle services to the Hialeah Market Station, from where the traveler can take advantage of the Tri-rail and travel to desired destinations. Key components of a strategic plan

You all know the saying that any road goes as long as you don’t know where you’re going. And it certainly is true when it comes to achieving company goals. If you don’t have set, written, well-communicated, and measured goals, there’s a very high chance you’ll never reach them. Hence the importance of having a quantifiable, measurable and well-communicated strategic plan.

Strategic planning is like creating a map for an exciting journey. A map helps keep you on track, but it’s not so strict that you can’t see a side road down the road. Every year in the fall, I plan where I am, where I want to go, and how I want to get there. Throughout the year, my plan becomes my guide as I make business decisions and find new opportunities. It helps me decide if the new opportunities and choices I encounter will bring me closer to my goals or are detours to avoid. It is essential to review your plan at least once a year to adapt to new technological developments, customer requests, the economy, emerging trends and your own interests.

1. SWOT: The first step is to determine where you are through a SWOT analysis: identify your internal Strengths and Weaknesses and your external Opportunities and Threats. Make a grid and fill in the blanks. Use two columns and two sections. Internally analyze human, financial, technological resources, culture, etc. Externally examines the economy, politics/regulatory, social/demographic, technology, competition, etc.

2. Vision, Mission, and Values: Create a short statement that quickly and easily describes your purpose (Mission) and your ultimate future (Vision). Who are your customers, what makes you different, how would your customers describe you, what do you offer, how are you unique, what will you be like tomorrow? Here’s a quick template to follow: “ABC Company’s purpose is _________________ so that the company and our stakeholders benefit from ____________________________. This quickly establishes who you are, why you exist, and what benefits are gained as a result of your business. You can get smart later, put it on paper for now Now list the guiding principles that underpin the behaviors you expect of yourself and others to achieve results Trust, honesty, creative solutions, integrity, customer service, etc., are examples of guiding principles.

3. Goals – Identify the key goals that need to be set to achieve your vision, mission, and goals for the year. State them in specific, quantifiable and measurable terms. They need to be ambitious, but realistic. Focus on “what not how”. Your list will grow, but narrow it down to the 4-5 critical items that are most important to moving your business forward this year.

4. Action planning: now we will see the “how”. For each goal, create a detailed action plan for how you will achieve this goal. For each target state:

– Desired results: what needs to happen or what benefit will occur
-Potential obstacles/barriers: what could stand in your way or impede progress
-Support: what resources, people, tools do you have or need

5. Implementation process – what steps need to be taken – indicate who will do what and by when. I do a quick monthly review to see what’s on target, what’s falling behind, what follow-up is needed, etc. This gives me a visual update and reminds me of my goals and how I am progressing.

6. Evaluation and measurement: how you will know that you have successfully achieved the objectives (which is why each must be established in a way that is specific, quantifiable and measurable). As you get more sophisticated, a balanced scorecard set of measures is an ideal way to track, measure and communicate your progress, but for now just determine how each goal will be measured.

This sounds like a lot of work, but by mapping out each goal, you’ll have a clear idea of ​​where you’re going, how to get there, and you’ll achieve your goals faster by avoiding unnecessary and costly detours.

The simplicity of these steps and descriptions belies the difficulty of this task. I have facilitated many senior management teams that struggle to get even the first two steps done. However, if you set aside some quiet time with your key colleagues and valued advisors, this need not be a monumental task. Once you have it in place, the annual review, revision, and update process becomes not only much easier, but also highly beneficial. You come away from this exercise with a sense of direction and satisfaction about how you will achieve your business goals while being sure to avoid at least a few unnecessary and costly sidetracks.

Modified yoga poses to strengthen your back and core muscles

Many of my clients come to me with back and neck injuries. As a result, they have a real fear of hurting or re-injuring their back. Let me tell you, back and neck pain is no fun at all. That pain affects every position and every social event in your life. People with back problems are acutely aware of their back and hips if they stand too much, walk too much, or try new exercises. As a person and teacher who has lived with back pain, I will honestly tell you; To relieve back and neck pain, constant adjustment may be necessary. People with chronic back pain are often on the defensive to protect their back. But many inadvertently re-injure their backs by moving a piece of furniture incorrectly or by carrying a heavier load (such as their favorite three-year-old son, grandson, or her niece or nephew). You know what I mean.

Me; Modified yoga is a way of life to manage back, neck and hip tension. I have been practicing and teaching for twenty-two years, because it works. But here is the trick. I really believe that these modified yoga stretches are more effective if you can fit them into your daily routine. It would be like pouring milk into your coffee and having lunch. For many daily routines, we will do something every day, like eating yogurt. You’ve probably eaten the same thing for breakfast for the last twenty years of your life. You go for breakfast cereal or yogurt, from time to time you have eggs and toast. If you live near a city, many of you have a weekly routine of going to a museum or show at least once a week. Why is it so hard to include a few modified stretches every day? Or at least once a week? The stigma?

If you want to ease your back pain and build core strength, just say yes to a more daily stretching and back strengthening routine. You will feel the difference, in how you move, and you will feel freer in your daily activities.

To get you started, I’ve chosen a few back and core strength poses that work for just about every back and every body type. The first one I call; hanging from the side of a mountain. Do this on the mat or in bed. Start by lying on your stomach. If he’s in bed, remove extra pillows and blankets so he can stretch out. Lie down on your belly. Stretch your arms past your ears and place your palms flat on the mat or bed. Give yourself arm space. If you need it; move down to give yourself arm space. Before beginning this pose, tuck your tailbone and hips under. Tilt your lower hips toward your navel or stomach, tensing your glutes fully to protect your back. Keep your palms down and raise your legs and head.

If your neck hurts while you’re doing this, you’ll tilt your chin slightly toward your chest so you don’t lift your head too high. Imagine if you were holding the edge of the mountain cliff with the tips of your fingers. Count from five to fifteen seconds. Drop your arms and tuck your hands under your head, lowering your elbows, as if you were making a pillow for your head. In fact, we call this pillow position. After a few seconds of rest, stretch your arms past your ears once more, grip the side of the mountain, and lift your legs and head up. You can do repetitions of three to five.

In the next pose you continue lying on your stomach. The starting position is the same. Stretch your arms past your ears and place your hands palms down in front of your face. This time we are going to keep our feet down for the anchors. Squeeze your glutes and tuck the bottom of your hips toward your stomach or navel. This pose is; a version of super girl and super boy pose. Start by lifting your arms and hands off the mat or bed, keep your feet down, and rotate your hands, as if you could bring your palms together. We’ll put palms together in a moment. But for now move your arms around your hips. Feet stay down. If you have a tense neck, lower your chin. When your hands reach your hips, raise your torso as high as you can. If your back hurts, you don’t need to lift your torso too high. Pause for five to fifteen seconds. Move your arms back to your forehead and now bring your palms together and off the mat about three inches or so. Keep your feet down. Keep your palms together in front of your face for three to five seconds. Rest in a pillow position by putting your hands under your head and breathing.

As you build core strength, the next pose is a bit more challenging. This is a version of flying. Once again he lies on his stomach. She begins by placing her hands close to her hips. You will place your palms on the mat or bed next to your hips, so that your fingers point toward your feet. When you lift, this time it will be your head, hands, and feet that lift. This exercise will work your abdomen and strengthen your back. Fly like this for three to five seconds and return to the resting or pillow position. You can do repetitions three to five times. If you apply some of these techniques in your daily or weekly routine, you will feel that your back and neck become stronger.

Just remember the interconnectivity. The back tenses when the hips lock, and the neck and shoulders when the back hurts. Sometimes to free your back you have to start with your legs and hips. Do yourself a favor and don’t overdo it. Work with a give-and-take mentality. Today I’m not going to push too hard, the next day you’ll feel better. Check with your body. If you listen, your body will tell you if you can add more stretches or if you need a rest day. Do not be afraid. Be more like a scientist. This works? No, this doesn’t work. That works? No, that doesn’t work. This works? Yes, this works. So keep doing what works!

1. One of the things I found that surprised me was that there seem to be studies that imply that negative thoughts have a greater impact on our lives than positive ones. I suspect that the reason for this would be the emotions associated with these thoughts. I would think that negative thoughts are super emotionally charged while positive thoughts lack strong feelings. This would mean that you need to have a lot more positive thoughts to counteract the negative ones. It would also mean that you need to have a lot more emotions associated with your positive thoughts.

2. Since we know that we are prone to negative thoughts, we always have some positive thoughts to counteract.

3. Be aware that negative thoughts are tenacious. They don’t want to give up their control over your life. When you realize that you are in a negative spiral, just stop and smile to yourself. Be aware of what is happening and just put those negative thoughts out of your mind.

4. Do things that make you happy. Do not give place in your mind to the negative.

5. When you find yourself angry with someone immediately change your point of view to the positive.

6. If you’ve heard the expression “You are what you eat.” Well, you’re also like the people you date. If you hang out with negative people, you will simply absorb their negative energy, so remove the negative energy from these people. Work very hard to be with positive people and you will see that you become more positive.

7. Eliminate all negative words from your vocabulary.

8. You will find that helping others is a great way to help yourself. Helping those less fortunate will make it harder to keep negative thoughts in your mind.

9. When you’re stressed, you’re more likely to have negative thoughts. Be aware of this and immediately change any negative words.

10. Pay attention to the good things in your life. Focus on gratitude.

11. Seek advice outside of yourself. When you’re being attacked with negative thoughts, ask your friends and family for some perspective.

12. Use negative thinking as a way to be aware of what is going on in your life. If you start having negative thoughts, look at what situations you were in that might have triggered them. If you can identify specific situations, you can avoid them or be prepared to defend yourself against negativity.

13. Reframe the thoughts you have. Instead of thinking that “this situation is impossible,” work on changing your thoughts to “this situation presents me with many challenges to grow.”

14. Realize that you are not perfect and that no one else is.

15. Know that you say things to yourself that you would never say to anyone else. Treat yourself with at least the same respect and you’d be an outsider.

Sequoia Day Trip from Lemoore, California

Lemoore is located in central California and is perfect for a wide variety of family trips, including the two-hour drive to historic Sequoia National Park, home to the giant sequoia trees, sequoias that are the largest living things on earth.

From Lemoore, head east on Highway 198 through Visalia and into the foothill community of Three Rivers. Three Rivers offers a great place to stop for sandwiches on the river or even homemade candy and ice cream. Just a few miles from Three Rivers, you’ll pass the entrance to Sequoia National Park, but keep in mind that you’re still about an hour from the heart of the park, after a slow drive with lots of switchbacks.

About forty-five minutes from the park entrance, you’ll pass Moro Rock, a giant rock with stairs and a railing, perfect for an afternoon workout. You can climb the rock and take in incredible views of the interior of Sequoia National Monument and the San Joaquin Valley below. About a third of the way up the rock, you’ll also have a great view, if you’re short on time or energy.

Just minutes from Moro Rock you’ll find Crescent Meadow, a beautiful meadow of wildflowers and other Sequoia flora and fauna. You can take a leisurely walk through the meadow, just over a mile in all. About halfway up the trail, you’ll find the historic “Tharpe Log”, a hollowed-out log used by a guy named Tharpe as a lodging almost a hundred years ago.

A short drive past Moro Rock and Crescent Meadow, visitors will find a variety of opportunities to drive over and under the giant sequoia trees. The largest of the Giants is located just before Lodge Pole. Parking is plentiful and visitors can walk to the base of this behemoth, the General Sherman Tree. For a hundred years visitors have been photographed in front of this giant tree. From the scale of the photo, the visitor appears to be the size of an insect.

After taking photos near the General Sherman and perhaps a short hike in the nearby redwood forest, visitors can visit Pole Lodge for dining or shopping. A ranger station at Lodge Pole can help answer any additional questions a visitor may have.

From Lodge Pole, a Lemoore family can return via the Three Rivers or loop through Grant Grove and on to Fresno. The Grant Grove stretch of highway doesn’t offer as many redwood delights as the highway to Three Rivers, but it’s much less winding and will get you home in just over two hours. All told, the trip is a fun-filled day trip from Lemoore.

What the authors can learn from the incredible story behind the movie THE ELEPHANT MAN

Movies, like books, sometimes have humble beginnings.

Do you remember the movie The Elephant Man? It was a true story about a 19th century freak who was saved by a doctor played in the film by Anthony Hopkins.

THE ELEPHANT MAN, played by the late John Hurt, continues to be a gold standard for artful cinematic creativity today. The film is from Academy Award-winning film producer Jonathan Sanger.

How did this movie come about? Was it the release of an agent? Nope.

Was it an award-winning script? Nope.

Experienced screenwriters created this masterpiece? Nope.

Was he adopted from a book? Nope.

Recently, my company Westwind Book Marketing hosted a book signing and a special big-screen screening of the elephant Man at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Jonathan Sanger introduced the film to several hundred people where he retold the incredible story of how this film based on his new book came to be: MAKING THE ELEPHANT MAN – MEMOIRS OF A PRODUCER.

Where did the script come from?

His nanny passed it to him to read! That’s right, her nanny. Sanger took the script and said that she had read it and quickly put it aside…for about a year. Then one day when he was coming back from a trip he opened his desk drawer and there he was… staring at him like an obligation.

What did he do? She read it, and she loved it!

His book “Making the Elephant Man: A Producer’s Memoir” gives us an inside look at the making of one of the first independent films and a blockbuster, as well as a glimpse into the early careers of movie greats David Lynch, Mel Brooks and Anthony Hopkins.

If you want to turn your book into a movie, this book will help you understand the intricacies of the myriad aspects of making a movie. Taking his experience as producer of THE ELEPHANT MAN, Sanger opens a powerful discussion of the evolution of cinema, from how he ‘discovered’ the screenplay written by ‘strangers’ Christopher DeVore and Eric Bergren to finding that “it was exactly the kind of story I wanted to do, a historical biography of a miserable soul who had nevertheless lived an extraordinary life”: the true story of the 19th century John Merrick, grossly deformed, known as the Elephant Man who worked in a sideshow in London and who was treated by a kind Dr. Treves.

“When I wrote this, I was teaching an independent film course and using my experience with this film to teach,” says Sanger. “I realized that it would be great to write these stories and put them in a book.” For every movie he makes, Sanger keeps a notebook about the crew, schedules, what they ordered for lunch and other details. He was able to access notes from 30 years ago that reminded him of the entire process, including the strong emotions that washed over him upon first reading the script.

Brooklyn-born Jonathan Sanger is a highly respected producer and director of major motion pictures, television series, and theatrical productions, earning twenty Academy Award nominations and winning three.
