Reflections of world cruises

As a certified travel agent, international airline employee, researcher, writer, teacher and photographer for four decades, travel, whether for pleasure or business, has always been an important and integral part of my life. Some 400 trips to all parts of the world, by road, rail, sea and air, involved both worldly and exotic destinations. This article focuses on my cruises and crossings around the world.

My lifetime cruise program, which spanned the 18-year period from 1991 to 2009, involved 27 voyages on 24 ships operated by 11 cruise lines to 17 regions, 49 countries, and 114 ports of call. During 205 days at sea, I sailed almost 60,000 nautical miles. The trips themselves have been subdivided into geographic regions.

The east coast of the United States, for example, was covered with itineraries both north and south.

The first, with Holland America’s Rotterdam, left New York on a ten-day cruise that took him to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine, and then to Canada, specifically Noa Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec, sailing the St. Lawrence. River to Quebec City and Montreal. The second, with Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn, paralleled the east coast on its seven-day sailing to Orlando and Miami in Florida, then shifted to one more east to Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas, earlier to return to its port. -u-origin.

The west coast was also completely covered by the sea. Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas, for example, made its way from San Diego to Vancouver, with ports of call in San Francisco and Astoria, Oregon, before charting Canadian waters to British Columbia, while Princess Cruise Line’s Regal Princess embarked on his seven-day Alaska Inside Passage itinerary from Vancouver to Juneau, Skagway, Yakutat Bay and Sitka.

Hawaii, in the Pacific, was covered with a circuit of several islands on Norwegian Star, specifically Oahu, the big island of Hawaii, Maui and Kuai, before assuming a south course towards north latitude of three degrees, almost equivalent to the equator. . location of Fanning Island in the Republic of Kiribati, its mandatory foreign port of call.

Aside from the Bahamas, Bermuda counted as an Atlantic island destination, in this case, Carnival’s Pride for a seven-day sailing that included three nights in port for daily sightseeing in an equal number of British island areas.

Three Caribbean island cruises, one to the eastern and two to the southern Caribbean, provided considerable coverage there.

The first, with the Grand Princess, departed from Ft. Lauderdale’s Port Everglades and touched bases on St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Princess Cays, his private island.

The second, with Celebrity’s Constellation, sailed from San Juan and traveled to the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Grenada, Antigua and St. Thomas.

The third, with the Caribbean Princess, again originated in San Juan, but sailed to Aruba, Bonaire, Grenada, Dominica and, for the third time, to Santo Tomás.

Two Mexican itineraries involved one of a single day from San Diego to Ensenada on the Pacific Star of Starlite Cruise Line, and the more traditional one of a week with the Sea Princess, in this case, from Los Angeles to the destinations of the Mexican Riviera in Vallarta Port. Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas, reminiscent of the weekly television series The Love Boat, which sparked considerable interest in cruises.

South America was circumnavigated with three 14-day voyages.

The first, on the Royal Princess, departed from Ft. Lauderdale and headed for Saint Bartholomew, Saint Lucia and Barbados in the Caribbean, before venturing to Devil’s Island in French Guiana, crossing the equator and entering the Amazon River in Brazil to Santana, Santarem, Boca da Valeria, Parintins and Manaus, covering 3,236 miles.

The second, originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and operated by Celebrity’s Infinity, eventually arched around the tip of the continent at Cape Horn, which provided northern access to the Beagle Channel of Darwin’s fame and the southern entrance to the Drake Passage. . Its ports of call included Montevideo in Uruguay, Puerto Madryn in Argentina, Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, Ushuaia in Argentina and Punta Arenas in Chile. Continuing his trek along the west coast, he plowed through the Strait of Magellan and the Chilean Fjords, offering an up-close inspection of the Skua Glacier, before sailing to Puerto Mont and ending in Valparaíso, both in Chile, completing a 4,070-mile cruise.

The third, of equal duration and on the same ship some two years later, left Valparaíso, but landed in La Serena and Arica, both in Chile, before continuing to Callao, Peru and Manta, Ecuador, in the process of crossing. the equator. An eastbound transit through the Panama Canal took him through the Miraflores Locks, Gatun Lake, Gaillard Cut, and the Gatun Locks, during which time it underwent an 85-foot change in water level. . The last four days of his trip took him to Cartagena, Colombia; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Ft. Lauderdale, its terminal, ending a 4,505-mile journey.

An earlier partial Panama Canal crossing on the Coral Princess had also departed from Ft. Lauderdale, but called at Ocho Ríos and Grand Cayman in the Caribbean, Limón in Costa Rica and Cozumel in Mexico. He only entered the Gatún Locks and crossed the lake of the same name.

Off the west coast of South America, specifically Ecuador, a five-day, four-night Galapagos Islands cruise on the smaller Corinthian involved ports of call at San Cristóbal, Tower, Bartolomé, Santiago, Santa Fe and Santa Crux, your two daily Expeditions on the coast that require a barefoot dive in the warm, crystal-clear water of the boats and a subsequent walk and walk down the beach to the bridge.

The continents of North America and Europe were connected with three transatlantic crossings between New York and Southampton on Cunard’s famous Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 ocean liners, one heading east and the other two heading west for maximum travel opulence. . They all passed the Statue of Liberty, penetrated the choppy Grand Banks of Newfoundland, and sailed up the Solent to Southampton, sometimes in reverse order, depending on the journey; address.

Europe was extensively covered with cruise ships from north to south.

A circumnavigation of the British Isles on the Golden Princess, for example, proceeded from Southampton to Dublin in Ireland, Hollyhead in Wales, Belfast in Northern Ireland, Greenock in Scotland, Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, South Queensferry, serving Edinburgh in Scotland , and back to Southampton, England.

The Norwegian fjords were accessed, at Celebrity’s Century, via Olden, Flam, Alesund and Bergen, an itinerary that included the impressive North Fjord, the Jostedal Glacier, the largest in Europe, and the Sognefjorden, the longest on the continent. , after a departure from Amsterdam.

An excerpt from my Cruise Log captured the experience.

“The Century left the Sognefjorden, once again turning north and plying the North Sea all night. As it approached Alesund, its third port of call during the early hours of the morning, it docked to starboard in the reflective harbor. mirrored silver at 07:30 am between the low hills and deep green on its left side, above which loomed dirty white clouds, like ethereal fog, and the Norwegian gabled terraced houses and turrets of the city below to his right, characterize the architecture of the area. Storfjord, Alesund proudly sported Mount Aksla, towering prominently above it. “

Scandinavia was also covered with a cruise from Copenhagen on the Crown Princess, stopping at Nyshaven in Sweden and Helsinki in Finland, before continuing on to St. Petersburg in Russia. Although it docked in Oslo, Norway, at the end of its navigation, it returned through the Baltic countries of Estonia and Poland.

An Iberian ship from Southampton on the Sea Princess paralleled the west coast of Europe after docking on the island of Guernsey, then headed for La Rochelle in France and Vigo in Spain.

The eastern and western sides of the Mediterranean were also covered with cruise ships.

The first, on Royal Caribbean’s Splendor of the Seas, departed from Barcelona and touched bases in Marseille and Nice in France, Monaco and Florence, Pisa, Capri and Sorrento in Italy.

The latter, with Celebrity’s Galaxy, sailed to Greece and Turkey, and the Greek islands of Santorini and Mykonos from Rome.

Finally, a 3,374-mile navigation on the Costa Fortuna involved ports of call in Barcelona before continuing through the Strait of Gibraltar, the bridge between the European and African continents, to Casablanca in Morocco, where it then crossed the South Atlantic to Santa Cruz. in Tenerife in the Canary Islands and Funchal in Madeira. His return brought him to Malaga on the sun-drenched Costa del Sol of Spain.

These cruises and voyages offered new approaches to destinations already visited, along with many new ones. As autonomous floating cities, their mega-ships, sometimes home to populations of 7,000 passengers and crew members, brought multi-colored sunsets, tranquility to the soul, and islands, cities, and countries that appeared outside my cabin window or balcony in almost all cases. Tomorrow. During the days at sea, I took advantage of about a hundred lectures and courses, an equal number of live performances at night, and as many shore excursions when they were in port. The myriad buffets and sit-down meals are almost unfathomable, but three examples have been cited.

“Breakfast in the King and I dining room at Splendor of the Seas included orange juice, fried eggs, bacon, roasted tomatoes, French fries and croissants.”

“Afternoon tea on the Queen Mary 2 was a British tradition and a delightful intermittence between lunch and dinner was served at every Cunard junction. Today it is served in the Queen’s Room, which was the most popular ballroom. large from the sea with a vaulted ceiling and two crystal chandeliers, a blue and gold velvet curtain over the orchestra stage, a 1,225 square foot dance floor, a live harpist and small round tables, which consisted of egg , ham and cheese, cucumber, tomato, beef and seafood. sandwiches, buns with curd cream and jam, and strawberry cream tarts. “

“Dinner was served at Infinity’s SS United States restaurant just after exiting the Panama Canal, an elegant dining room inspired by the SS United States cladding with an actual etched glass panel from the ship, formally ornate tables, and porthole windows. Chosen. “Menu Exeptionel,” a six-course tasting of their signature dishes, included Riesling white wine from Germany, chicken roll with sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts, a light creamy tomato, red pepper and mozzarella cream with pesto, two times -baked goat cheese puff served with red pepper coulis and a triangle of olive toast; a passion fruit and white rum granite; grilled sea bass fillet served with sun-dried tomatoes, fresh herbs, pistachio and oil olive over grilled Mediterranean vegetables; a selection of cheeses with pecan bread, celery, apple slices, walnuts and grapes; chocolate souffle with English vanilla sauce; coffee; and petit fours “

Is cryptocurrency the future of money?

What will the future of money look like? Imagine walking into a restaurant and looking at the digital menu board for your favorite combo meal. Only, instead of being priced at $ 8.99, it is displayed as .009 BTC.

Can cryptocurrencies really be the future of money? The answer to that question depends on general consensus on several key decisions ranging from ease of use to safety to regulations.

Let’s examine both sides of the (digital) currency and compare and contrast traditional fiat money with cryptocurrency.

The first and most important component is trust.

It is imperative that people trust the currency you are using. What gives the dollar its value? Is it gold? No, the dollar has not been backed by gold since the 1970s. So what is it that gives value to the dollar (or any other fiat currency)? The currency of some countries is considered more stable than that of others. Ultimately, people trust that the government issuing that money is firmly behind it and essentially guarantees its “value.”

How does trust work with Bitcoin, since it is decentralized, which means that it is not a governing body that issues the coins? Bitcoin is on the blockchain, which is basically an online ledger that allows everyone to see each and every transaction. Each of these transactions is verified by miners (people who operate computers on a peer-to-peer network) to prevent fraud and also ensure that there is no double spending. In exchange for their services of maintaining the integrity of the blockchain, miners are paid for every transaction they verify. Since there are countless miners trying to make money, each one checks the others for bugs. This proof-of-work process is the reason the blockchain has never been hacked. Essentially, this trust is what gives Bitcoin value.

Next, let’s look at the closest friend of trust, security.

What if my bank is robbed or there is fraudulent activity on my credit card? My bank deposits are covered by FDIC insurance. Most likely, my bank will also void the charges on my card that I never made. That doesn’t mean criminals can’t pull off stunts that are at least frustrating and time-consuming. It is more or less the peace of mind that comes from knowing that I will most likely recover from any crime against me.

In crypto, there are many options when it comes to where to store your money. It is imperative to know if transactions are insured for your protection. There are reputable exchanges like Binance and Coinbase that have a proven track record of fixing mistakes for their clients. Just as there are banks with little reputations all over the world, the same goes for cryptocurrencies.

What happens if I throw a twenty dollar bill into the fire? The same goes for cryptocurrencies. If I lose my login credentials to a certain wallet or digital exchange, I will not be able to access those coins. Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of doing business with a reputable company.

The next problem is scale. Currently, this could be the biggest obstacle preventing people from making more transactions on the blockchain. When it comes to the speed of transactions, fiat money moves much faster than cryptocurrencies. Visa can handle around 40,000 transactions per second. Under normal circumstances, the blockchain can only handle around 10 per second. However, a new protocol is being enacted that will trigger this up to 60,000 transactions per second. Known as the Lightning Network, it could make crypto the future of money.

The conversation wouldn’t be complete without talking about convenience. What do people like about their traditional banking and spending methods? For those who prefer cash, it is obviously easy to use most of the time. If you are trying to book a hotel room or rental car, you need a credit card. Personally, I use my credit card everywhere I go because of the convenience, safety, and rewards.

Did you know that there are companies that offer all of this in the crypto space as well? Monaco is now issuing Visa logo cards that automatically convert your digital currency into local currency for you.

If you’ve ever tried to transfer money to someone, you know that the process can be very tedious and expensive. Blockchain transactions allow a user to send crypto to anyone in just minutes, regardless of where they live. It is also considerably cheaper and safer than sending a bank transfer.

There are other modern methods of transferring money that exist in both worlds. Take, for example, apps like Zelle, Venmo, and Messenger Pay. These apps are used by millions of millennials every day. Did you also know that they are also beginning to incorporate cryptocurrencies?

The Square Cash app now includes Bitcoin and CEO Jack Dorsey said: “Bitcoin, for us, is not limited to buying and selling. We believe this is a transformative technology for our industry and we want to learn as quickly as possible.” ”

He added that “Bitcoin offers the opportunity for more people to access the financial system.”

While it’s clear that fiat spending still dominates the way most of us move money, the fledgling crypto system is rapidly gaining ground. The evidence is everywhere. Before 2017, it was difficult to find mainstream media coverage. Now almost every major trading news outlet covers Bitcoin. From Forbes to Fidelity, everyone is speaking out.

What is my opinion? Perhaps the main reason that Bitcoin could be successful is that it is fair, inclusive, and grants financial access to more people around the world. Banks and large institutions see this as a threat to their very existence. They are on the losing end of the greatest wealth transfer the world has ever seen.

Are you still undecided? Ask yourself this question: “Do people trust governments and banks more or less with each passing day?”

Your answer to that question could be what determines the future of money.

Norman Rockwell Urban Connection

Although his home was rural Vermont, Norman Rockwell knew of the integrated urban neighborhoods that thrived in America in the 1940s. Long before interstates, Levittown, and the “white flight,” working-class neighborhoods in Troy, New York, and Los Angeles, California attracted the famous illustrator. He drew sketches and took photographs of their homes and their people, and these sketches served as the backdrop for two of the most memorable covers of Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post. Homecoming GI (1945) and Road block (1949). And true to its urban theme, both illustrations include African Americans.

Troy, known as “The Collar City,” was home to Arrow Shirts, whose “Arrow Collar Man” was made famous by advertisements created by Rockwell’s friend and mentor, JC Leyendecker. Troy was a booming industrial city, making four million necklaces a week during the 1920s. Another source of industrial fame for the city was its hardware stores, which, by the mid-19th century, were second only to those of Pennsylvania.

From his Vermont home, Norman Rockwell traveled frequently through Troy on his way to Albany, New York, where he caught the train to New York City. When the artist decided to create a Post cover commemorating WWII veterans returning to their hometowns, he decided to turn that hometown of Troy, New York, into the working class.

Homecoming GI appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post on May 25, 1945. Among the people who welcome home with glee (or timidly, in the case of his young girlfriend), the young soldier is not just Norman Rockwell himself ( standing in a doorway of the house), but also two young men recklessly hanging from a tree they have climbed, waving savagely. One of the two boys is black.

In 1945, the children just went out to play. No “helicopter parents”, no play dates. Black and white children frolicked and fought together on the streets of America. Think of “our gang”. Elsie Wagner Fenic, in her moving memoirs White girl in Harlem, offers a beautiful look at this time. Fenic, a second-generation Polish-American, can still jump a pretty bad double Dutch, thanks to spending her first nineteen years enjoying 1940s New York City street games with black and Latino friends.

Norman Rockwell gathered black and white playmates Homecoming GI, not to make a civil rights declaration, but because, on the streets of Troy, New York in 1945, they really were there.

Another urban setting for Norman Rockwell was Los Angeles, California.

During the winter of 1948-49, while on vacation with his in-laws in Los Angeles, Rockwell visited Mrs. Merrill, a widow and owner of a women’s pension. He wanted to borrow his entire house.

Located in the MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, 719 South Rampart Boulevard was a three-story dwelling flanked by similar structures and the “Pacific Telephone and Telegraph” building, the workplace of many of Ms. Merrill’s guests. . Rockwell sought Ms. Merrill’s permission to host a photoshoot in front of her building. Capturing the street and some of its residents as models, he would later use these photos to create one of his famous Saturday Evening Post covers. But Mrs. Merrill said no. Apparently, even in 1949, not everyone loved Norman Rockwell.

The middle-aged home fighter felt that the famous artist did not adequately “enhance” his female role models in his paintings. However, Rockwell persisted in his request and Merrill finally relented: for the payment of $ 50.00.

The camera crew appeared at South Rampart while one of the members of Ms. Merrill’s tenants, Antonia Piasecki, was doing laundry. In a letter to the Norman Rockwell Museum, he writes: “Mr. Rockwell asked me for fancy underwear for the clothesline. I gave him nylon stockings, black lace-trimmed panties, and a bra that he hung up …”

A moving truck arrived, complete with California license plates and two moving truck drivers. Many photos were taken. The result was Road block, the character-filled illustration that appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post on July 9, 1949.

Norman Rockwell put himself in the painting: he is the violin teacher looking out the window of what was actually Mrs. Piasecki’s bedroom. Mrs. Piasecki also became a Rockwell model: she is the young woman who looks out the window below Rockwell. The red-haired lady standing in the cellar door? That’s the model of resistance turned Rockwell, Mrs. Merrill. Models of other figures in the painting have also been identified: Joseph Magnani, director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and a friend of Rockwell, is the artist hanging from the window of a building across the street, accompanied by a barely covered young lady. Peter Rockwell, the artist’s youngest son, is the boy with glasses and the violin just below them. But Ms. Piasecki does not recall that “there were all those children (at the scene of the shooting) at that time.”

“All those children” is probably Ms. Piasecki’s polite code for the two little black children perched at the bottom of the scene. They stand solemnly with their backs to the viewer, studying the impasse created when the big red truck meets a white puppy.

Norman Rockwell apparently did not meet any black children on South Rampart Street that day. But given his knowledge of similar neighborhoods like those in Troy, New York, he knew they were there, somewhere. So the intrepid artist went out looking for them.

***

They are poignant in elegance, innocence, and simplicity. Two black children, a girl and an older boy, in profile from behind. The black-and-white photo in the archives of the Norman Rockwell Museum shows the boy’s shirt neatly ironed, the girl’s braids impeccably arranged. They are both standing holding their hands behind their backs, gazing into an invisible horizon.

The names of these two little models are unknown. There is nothing written on the back of the photo. Rockwell’s meticulously kept receipts do not reveal who was paid to pose for this shot. The location of the photograph, although it appears to have been taken in Los Angeles, is also not known with certainty.

But this is known: In 1949, Norman Rockwell went out on purpose and found two black children to model for him so that he could place their figures in his illustration. Rockwell knew they were supposed to be in the picture.

The house at 719 South Rampart Boulevard has disappeared. Where the building once stood there is now a parking lot. In the 1950s, integrated neighborhoods began to disappear from the United States. Consequently, people of color also disappeared from Norman Rockwell’s paintings in the 1950s.

Using color psychology to sell your home

When painting your home for resale, choosing the right colors can make a big difference to your paycheck at closing. For example, did you know that the exterior color of the fastest selling homes is a certain shade of yellow, but that choosing the wrong shade of yellow can end a sale?

You will find many brochures in paint stores, showing various exterior paint color combinations. But most people don’t realize that most of those combinations actually include three colors and not just two. Limiting your exterior paint scheme to just two colors also limits your earning potential.

For a quick sale, think of fun colors and go for a third or even fourth exterior color. Think “Disneyland Main Street” where all the stores are painted in splendid multiple colors. Adding more colors will also add definition to the various architectural details in your home. Use gloss or semi-gloss paint on wood trim.

The psychology of exterior colors

When choosing exterior colors, consider the selling price of your home. Certain colors, especially muted and complex hues, attract wealthy or highly educated buyers, while buyers with less income or education generally prefer simpler colors. A complex color contains tints of gray or brown and generally requires more than one word to describe it, such as “sage green” rather than “green.”

On the other hand, simple colors are simple and pure. Generally, homes in the lower price range sell faster and for higher prices when painted in simple colors such as yellow or tan, accented by white, blue, or green trim.

The psychology of interior colors

Using colored white walls, rather than soft ones, will increase your earning potential. Lynette Jennings tested the perception of room size and color, and found that a room painted white seemed larger to a few people compared to an identical room painted in color, and the perceived difference was only six inches! Most people also look their best when surrounded by color and feel happier, and since buyers choose homes that make them happy, that knowledge can put dollars in your pocket at closing!

Entries must bring exterior colors into the home. Repeating hues from the exterior throughout your home will make the entire home appear to be in harmony. Living and family rooms painted in a slightly lighter shade of the exterior color will ensure that you’ve chosen a color that your buyers like, because if they didn’t like your exterior colors, they wouldn’t have bothered to look inside. If you loved the exterior colors, you will also love the interior.

When choosing interior colors, consider the use of each room. For example, kitchen and dining areas that are painted in “food colors,” such as brown coffee, celery leaves, and yellow scrambled eggs, feel natural.

Since the deeper shades of color imply intimacy and serenity, I like to paint the master bedrooms a medium shade of green or blue for warmer sales seasons, and blush red for colder climates. Other rooms can be painted in creamy shades of green, blue, or pale pink. (See the chapter on the psychology of color in my book “Joy for the Home: Secrets of Interior Design Psychology” for more information).

Sale season

Always consider the sales season (the time of year you will be selling your home) and the weather when choosing colors. Estimate the amount of time it will take to prepare your home for sale, and then add extra days for unexpected delays. Use cool colors, such as blues, greens, and grays, to sell during the spring and summer, and warm colors, such as yellow, red, and maroon, when selling in the fall and winter.

Color intensity

My husband and I usually use lighter colors when we paint the exterior of our investment dollhouses, because it makes them look bigger. On the other hand, our cabin in the woods looks richer when painted a darker color. When we decided to paint it, I considered the usual cabin colors of dark brown and barn red, but fell in love with Olympic’s beautiful “Gooseberry” plum color.

When preparing to paint your house, look at the colors of neighboring houses and choose colors that harmonize, but stand out from the crowd. Colors that clash poorly with other homes will detract from the overall neighborhood.

At the beginning of the article, I told you that houses with yellow exteriors sell faster. But what shade of yellow sells best? First, the yellows to avoid: yellows with green undertones appear unhealthy to most buyers, and yellows with orange undertones give buyers a low-priced impression.

The best-selling yellow exterior color is actually a pale, sunny yellow, especially when complemented by one or more carefully selected accent colors. For example, a semi-gloss white trim will give your home a clean and fresh look, and adding a third color, such as green, can make your home even more attractive to potential buyers.

Colors affect human beings in many ways, and by using the principles of color psychology, you can make your home stand out from the competition, sell faster, and at a higher price.

Used cars in Germany – Drive with pride and joy

Germany is one of the best automobile manufacturing countries in addition to Japan, Italy, France, the United Kingdom and the United States. There are many common names like Audi, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Opel, and Porsche. The history of German automobiles began in 1870 when Karl Benz and his colleague Nikolaus Otto set out to begin an experiment for automobile engines and vehicle design that is the origin of modern automobiles.

However, the German automotive industry has experienced the period of decline when the “Great Depression” occurred in the late 1920s and early 1930s. And that was the saddest day in the history of the automotive world in Germany. . After the “Great Depression” ended, only a dozen German automakers survived. The Ford Cologne factory, Opel and Daimler Benz were the small group that survived, and so were Horch, Dampf Kraft Wagen, Audi and Wanderer.

To raise the standard of living of German citizens, the Nazi Party that was in charge at the time made a transportation policy in order for the Nazi Party to gain a good reputation from the German citizens who called Motorisierung. This policy got hold of the Volkswagen car company to make cheap and affordable cars for all social groups in Germany, but it did not reduce the quality of its vehicle.

Approximately six million new cars produced each year in Germany, while about 4.9 million vehicles produced each year by German brands abroad. In recent decades, Japanese automakers like Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi have always been a strong competitor to German automakers. One of the reasons why Japanese cars are a strong competitor to German automakers is because the price is relatively cheaper than European or American brands.

If you are looking for quality and prestige but do not have the budget to buy a new one, buying used cars in Germany is the right option for you. There are many options for choosing used cars in Germany from various brands, such as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes Benz.

Here are the good options for buying used cars in Germany from the three most popular German automakers:

Mercedes Benz

Being a pioneer in the modern automotive world, Mercedes-Benz is more famous product brand than other German automakers. For example, there are two Mercedes-Benz products that are affordable and of good quality:

  • Mercedes Benz R-Class is an SUV with several concepts of combination between the luxury of a people carrier and an SUV. The R350 is powered by a 3500cc V6 engine, while the R500 series is powered by a 5000cc V8 engine. Mercedes Benz R-Class equipped with many features such as safety, multimedia and comfort.
  • Mercedes Benz M-Class is one of the most wonderful and luxurious SUVs in the world. And it became the “Best New Sport Utility Vehicle” in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards. This car is powered by a 3.5 liter 3500cc front V6 engine with 92.9mm bore, compression ratio. 10.7mm, 86.0mm stroke, dual overhead cams, four valves per cylinder and variable valve / camshaft timing. This car is also equipped with Blue Tec diesel technology and stability control.

BMW

Founded in 1916 with the name; Bavarian Engine Works (BMW). Throughout the years, BMW is well known as one of the best automobile and motorcycle manufacturers in the world. There are two BMW products that are affordable but of good quality:

  • The BMW 125i Convertible is a mini sedan that has good speed and handling performance. It becomes the king of convertible mini sedans. This car powered by a 2996cc front V6 engine.
  • The BMW X3 is a compact luxury SUV with very good performance because this car uses four wheel drive (4WD) which allows you to use it on many different roads. Since 2006, BMW X3 used in Dakar Rally competition. This car powered by 3001cc V6 with biturbo diesel engine.

Audi

Audi is also known as one of the most reputable passenger car manufacturers. The four-ring logo symbolizes the merger of four automakers; DKW, the Audi, Horch and Wanderer. There are two Audi products that are affordable and also of good quality:

  • Audi A4 is an innovative car for long-term use with a great design and engine. It is the winner of the “Golden Steering Wheel” award in 2008 as the best vehicle in its class. This car runs on 3196cc front-wheel drive V6.
  • Audi TT is the car with an exciting appearance, both in design and interior. This car is powered by a 1999cc 4-cylinder engine and four-wheel drive (4WD). Perhaps this car is the best in Germany’s used car selection, because Audi TT has been awarded with many awards; Car of the Year 2006, Drive Car of the Year 2006, Coupe of the Year 2006, World Design Car of the Year 2007 and Autobild Most Beautiful Car 2007, as well as being a finalist for World Car of the Year.

However, regardless of the makes and models you choose, buying used cars in Germany will bring you pride and joy when driving used cars in Germany.

How to add administrators to business profiles and groups on LinkedIn and Facebook

As your small business grows and you begin to outsource parts of your operations, you may consider hiring a Virtual Assistant (VA) to help you monitor your social media activity. At that point, instead of distributing your personal passwords at will, you can grant and remove administrative access to your business accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn to your assistant at your leisure.

While this is a very quick and easy process once you know how to do it, the links to do it are not always in the most logical places. So this article will help you add another admin to your Facebook page; your Facebook group; your LinkedIn group; and your company’s profile on LinkedIn.

However, before you begin, to be able to do any of these, you must be an administrator of the page or group in question. If you created the page or group, you will be the default administrator; If you didn’t, you will need to add it as an administrator to the page or group by someone who is.

I. Add administrators to your Facebook page

  1. Log in to Facebook and navigate to your company page.
  2. In the upper right corner, below the dark blue Facebook header ribbon, you will see a button that says “Edit Page.” Below that, you will see a box titled “Administrators” (this box is only visible to administrators, not your fans. If you don’t see this box, you are not an administrator and therefore will not be able to follow the remaining instructions). .) Click on “View All” to the right of where it says “Administrators”.
  3. This will take you to a new page where you will see a list of current admins for your Facebook page, with a blank space for you to add a new one. If you are a friend of the administrator on Facebook, just write his name in the box. If you are not friends with them, you must enter the email address they used to create their Facebook account. People tend to have more than one email address now, so it’s important to double-check.
  4. Click “Save Changes”. You will be asked to enter your Facebook password.

II. Add administrators to your Facebook group

  1. Log into Facebook and navigate to your group page.

Working students have many responsibilities that take up most of their time; But does that mean you’ve given up on your dream of one day having the rewarding career you’ve always envisioned? I hope not. Read on to find out how to get ahead of the game as a hardworking student.

Follow these ten tips to make working, raising a family, and going to school manageable:

  1. Set achievable goals and set priorities.
  2. Create a support system.
  3. Find a job that fits your school schedule.
  4. Find a reliable daycare.
  5. Make a schedule, but be flexible.
  6. Stay organized.
  7. Manage your time well.
  8. Delegate household responsibilities.
  9. Control stress levels.
  10. Stay focused and know that it can be done.

1 – Set achievable goals and prioritize.

Choose realistic goals and stay focused by prioritizing what is most important to you and your desired goal.

  • Every decision you make should depend on your actual abilities. For example, if you can’t fit a full load of classes into your schedule, start with just 1 or 2 classes per semester and work your way from there.
  • Once you know how much you can handle with the school, you can try adding more to your schedule.

A good tip is to divide a large goal into several smaller goals that are easier to manage.

  1. First, write down the goals.
  2. Then take note of the progress you’ve made as each goal on your list is checked; This will increase your confidence.

This first time management tip for students: “Set achievable goals and set priorities.“- is the most important. Once you have mastered this skill, the remaining 9 tips should be easy to put into practice.

2 – Create a support system.

  • Get buy-in from your existing support group – Discuss your decision to go back to school with your employer, family, and friends. Make sure they understand why you are doing it and that you, a working student, will need their help along the way.
  • Reach out to your new support group at school – use your school counselors, join a study group, meet other working students who have similar daily obligations. Just make sure you don’t alienate existing friends or family. You will not believe how much this support will help you in your search for a new career.

3 – Find a job that suits your school schedule.

Find a flexible job because school is your priority now.

If there are other people who can do what you do at work, it will be easier to take time off and switch shifts to fit your school schedule.

Look for jobs at the school you attend, at your child’s daycare, or maybe something you can do from home. If your employer doesn’t understand, find a new one.

4 – Find a reliable daycare.

Decide what type of child care will work best for you and schedule a meeting with them. Once you’ve chosen your arrangement, find some backup sources in case something changes. There are many options for reliable child care, such as:

  • Public and private nurseries
  • Preschoolers
  • Nursery at home
  • Parental compensation
  • Babysitter Pools
  • Members of the family
  • Babysitters

5 – Make a schedule, but be flexible.

If you haven’t already, make a schedule.

  • This schedule should be at least somewhat flexible and contain all the required activities of your day.
  • Once you have everything in writing and can see it from a better perspective, find out what can be shuffled and what should stick around.
  • The time between work and family obligations can be used to study and do homework.

Now that your schedule is complete, don’t forget to communicate your daily obligations to your family, employer, and friends. Once everyone knows what to expect from their time, things should run smoothly.

6 – Stay organized.

  • To be successful as a hardworking student, you must stay organized in all aspects of your life. You will notice that when your spaces are organized, your thoughts follow suit. Knowing where everything is at any given moment will also save you valuable time that you can spend on more important tasks.
  • Keep your schedule up to date. Any changes that need to be made should be updated immediately. This is especially important at the beginning of a new semester, when class schedules tend to change and new arrangements need to be made.

7 – Manage your time well.

Successful student time management is about preparing and making every minute count. For example, use the precious time before going to sleep to:

  • Lay out the clothes
  • Pack lunches and backpacks
  • Prepare keys, coats and shoes (appropriate for the weather)
  • Prepare the coffee to prepare
  • Bath
  • Deciding on a breakfast menu

This will save you precious time in the morning and ensure that you won’t be late for anything.

8 – Delegate household responsibilities.

Delegate, delegate, delegate! If you have children over the age of 4, they can probably help you around the house and lighten your load a bit. Make sure everyone contributes to the family and has a job that they can actually do. By doing this, you will teach your children valuable skills for living independently in the future. And don’t forget to use your support system.

9 – Control stress levels.

  • Keep stress under control. For a working student or a returning parent, relieving stress is just as important as keeping it at bay.
  • Take breaks often. Take a night off from study and plan something fun to do with family, friends, or on your own.
  • Make sure you take time each day to do at least one thing you enjoy, like reading for pleasure.
  • Stretch, exercise, or meditate. This can be as simple as taking a walk.
  • Remind yourself why you are doing this and reward yourself for your hard work and accomplishments.
  • Enjoy the little things that always made you happy and incorporate them into your daily activities.

10 – Stay focused and know it can be done.

Concentrate on the topic at hand. Manage one task at a time and think about nothing else.

  • If you are with the family, stay with the family and do not balance the checkbook.
  • If you’re in school, focus on your assignments and put job responsibilities on hold.
  • When preparing meals, don’t worry about who brings the children to your activities.

Remember why you’re doing all of this: Small sacrifices can pay off big. Try not to be too hard on yourself if everything doesn’t go as planned; This is life.

Know that many people make the decision to go back to school every day and do it successfully. If they can do it, you can too! It just takes a little commitment and a lot of momentum. Find a vocational school near you today and start taking advantage of the benefits of convenience.

Picture Framing for Photographers – Part 1

Imagine being able to frame all your own photos as well as a professional. You can save enough money to easily pay for all the necessary tools, and the convenience of being able to do it yourself frees you from having to have someone else do it. If you are a hobbyist, a frame cutter, frame clamp, and hand frame joining tool is all the equipment you need to make professional looking frames. These days the tools are easy and safe to operate, inexpensive and give you a good result. The frame of the image can be divided into four areas. Cut the bezel bracket, cut and join the frame, mount the photograph, and adjust and finish the job. The tools required to perform each of these functions are as follows.

1. Cutter mount: A manual bevel mount cutter is essential for all photographic work. The most important feature of modern saddle cutters is having one that runs on its own ruler or ruler.

2. Cutting and joining frames: The professional framer uses a guillotine to cut wooden frames and an automatic V nail jointer. But the cost is prohibitive for the small volumes of frames that our industry requires. However, there are tools that give you a professional result at a fraction of the cost.

3. Mounting Artwork: Dry mount presses and laminating machines are not the only way to safely and efficiently mount all of your ready-to-frame artwork. We will look at the assembly of the vacuum press, the hinge methods and other less expensive options.

4. Assembly and Finishing: There are a number of hand tools on the market that make this job quick and easy. Anyone can safely use them to give a professional finish to all framing jobs.

Our series of articles on the next four issues will examine each of these processes.

Cutting and decoration assembly

Mount Cutting is the creative face-to-image framing. What distinguishes one framed photograph from another is the creative use of supports. There are a wide variety of mounting plate brands and colors, possibly too many! Supplies are easy to come by and the cost of the boards is not prohibitive. The great thing about cutting your own frames is that once you cut it you can keep the consequences of the medium, which can then be turned into a frame for a smaller photograph. This saves money and helps qualify your media cutting machine investment.

Most of the manual mounting cutters available in art stores come with the cutting head only and not with a guide ruler. For successful bevel cutting and good corner cleaning, a guide rule that the cutting head runs on is essential for good results. FrameCo systems are ideal for the do-it-yourself framer or small workshop.

Mounting cutters also come attached to a base board or just the straight edge ruler. The socket makes the system more stable, easier to use and more reproducible, however, to cut a few montages per year for your own photo work, the head / ruler systems are sufficient.

Another consideration is sizing or reducing full-size sheets. Large professional mounting cutters are big enough to take the full size blade. But a sharp Stanley knife and ruler can be used to cut full-size blades into the blank sizes ready for bevel cutting. FrameCo has a 90 degree straight cutter, which will also adhere to the ruler. This can be used to cut the mounting plate to size and is safe and easy to use. The advantage of this optional cutting head is that it can also be used to cut foam core boards up to mm thick. Use the same blade as the bevel cutter.

Cut a single-bevel mount

The technique for cutting bevel brackets is quick and easy. After cutting the mounting plate to the correct size to fit the frame, adjust the lines on the back of the mounting plate to the border size you need. The bevel cutter head sticks to the ruler, making it stable when cutting. Another feature of the head is that it has a start / stop indicator line. Following the ruled lines on the back of the mount makes it easy to get good straight bevels, but to get clean, sharp corners, you need to know where to start and stop cutting. Indicator mark ensures no corner cuts, giving you a professional cut mount every time.

Cut a double bevel assembly

Ruler lines on the back of the frame. The start and stop line guarantees perfect curves.

Cut a double bevel assembly

Double brackets enhance most images. A narrow swatch of color can bring out dark spots on your subject, increasing the contrast between light and dark, thereby improving image sharpness. Therefore, a double bracket is not only decorative, but also functional. The “secret” to cutting a double bracket, so that the inner bracket edges are exactly parallel to the outer bracket edges, is NOT to cut two separate brackets and then glue them together. The best way is to cut the top bracket first, then tape the two together with double-sided tape (i.e. the top and bottom brackets, then cut the bottom bracket). The reason for doing it this way is that it uses the same edge as a reference point to measure. Then the frame will be aligned with each other and it will look good.

It may sound confusing, but it isn’t once you get the hang of it! The most important aspect of saddle cutting is that with the right tools you can get a professional result with relative ease.

Once you have mastered cutting single and double assemblies, you can also add decorative finishes to assemblies, which will enhance the image and add value to all your assembly work.

Decorative V-groove

One of the most important techniques in cutting decorative supports is the “V” groove. This is a small V-shaped cutout placed on the front surface of the bracket. The V-groove adds a stylish look to all your frames. It’s that creative touch that gives any image a professional finish.

The professional framing industry uses existing large mount cutters to cut V-grooves. It is a two-stage process because it involves cutting two separate bevel cuts to make the “V” cut. This is difficult to do and there are no guarantees of a perfect and accurate V-groove. FrameCo has introduced GrooveMaster. This is a manual V groove cutter, which cuts the “v” directly into the top surface of the bracket. The GrooveMaster also sticks to the ruler you use for bevel mount cutting, which means it’s accurate and easy to use.

Now V-grooving is within the reach of any DIY picture framing. And the technique is easy to master. You can buy pre-cut brackets and decorate them with a V-groove, which adds value to the bracket and makes it much more versatile.

Making your own framing is ideal for the hobbyist, portraitist, or weekend photographer. You can save on framing costs to more than offset your investment in tools and accessories. You control the mounting and matting stage, and there is great satisfaction in doing it yourself. However, if you have a retail outlet on hand, I don’t suggest you try to compete with the mass market for ready-made frames. These frames are cheap and well made. But there is a significant market for the odd-sized frame that is not available from ready mades. You can cut an odd-sized bracket to fit a standard frame or prepare the frame to fit. However, with your own framing, you can produce your own work and save money doing it in the long run.

Carbonated drinks will be restricted on the Candida diet

My friend read something online before about how to eliminate (among all the other things we can’t eat) carbonated drinks on the candida diet. She loves Perrier and Diet Rite melba peach drinks (sweetened with Splenda). She only has one Diet Rite per day, but will often drink 2 25oz bottles of Perrier a day if she has him around. Wondering why carbonated drinks are not allowed.

I know that I have different reactions of sugars to carbonation. Carbonation seems to go through my entire system resulting in small pockets of air that come out when I use the bathroom. Unlike the sugar that causes my typical candida problems.

I’m trying to be as strict with my diet as possible, but for at least the first month or so I indulge in diet sodas and sweet and low for my grapefruit and herbal tea. I know it kills but I just have to have something to satisfy my sugar cravings or else I know I won’t get it. I have a book on candida diets written by a nutritionist who chewed sugarless gum at first for the same reason. I mean, we are only human and we are capable of quitting when the time comes. I’m planning to go from diet soda to Perrier and then drop that no matter what they say. It can’t be that terrible.

Sometimes I also break and drink a “Spritzer” from “RW Knudsen”. It doesn’t affect me like typical soft drinks. It has sparkling water, concentrated fruit juices, and “natural flavor.” But, as I recently learned, there could be anything in that natural flavor.

I also wanted to point out if Splenda is made from sugar that they process. I’m not sure if Splenda is good for candida considering what it actually is. Try this for a fizzy drink: club soda, unsweetened cranberry juice, and Stevia if you want to sweeten it up. It is quite tart but refreshing!

5 main reasons why marriages break up

Love: Yes, I mean love. I know you are wondering how love can cause a breakup. Love is believed to be the foundation of marriage. It is love that produces marriage. You only get married once you realize that you love someone else like yourself. You cannot marry someone you hate. Unless it’s for other reasons. When the sweet love you once shared turns sour, the marriage is about to break down. How are you going to live with a person who bothers you so much? It is impossible, and because of that, most couples choose to separate and go their ways. Every human being wants to be loved. therefore, where there is no love, couples never stay together for long.

In laws: What role do in-laws play in your marriage? Well, there is no marriage without in-laws. When couples marry, they automatically get in-laws. Some of these in-laws are the best and some are the worst. One might wonder if they ever wanted their son or daughter to marry. They interfere a lot with the marriage of your children / brother / sister. Who is to blame in this case? In most cases, it is the in-laws on the husband’s side that bring all these problems. In such cases, the fault lies with the man. You must defend your wife at all times, even if she is wrong. It should not be he who incites his people against the wife. I’m sorry to say this, but some husbands have the audacity to speak ill of their wives to their families. Tell me, won’t your in-laws hate you when they hear such bad things from your own husband? If you allow your family to interfere so much in your marriage, then know that in time your wife will tire and stop.

Infidelity: This is the worst of all. Nobody wants to be cheated on by the partner. In fact, if the other party finds out, there is no forgiveness. When a man finds out that his wife is cheating on him, he can do the worst to the man involved with his wife. Women are forgiving. For their part, they can forgive their husbands but they will never love them again. Some women end up choosing to leave the man and even asking for a divorce.

Let’s compare: This is a very painful reason for breakups. When one spouse chooses to constantly compare their spouse to another, it really hurts a lot. Despite the fact that the one who does it, could be doing it without knowing it. In some cases, the spouse making these comparisons is aware of this and usually does so on purpose to hurt the spouse. The target spouse may, in some cases, deal a lot with the party they are comparing to, and if the sacrifice is not noticed, this can lead to a breakup.

Physical, emotional and mental abuse: This is one of the main causes of marriage breakdown. One partner could abuse the other. This could be physical / emotional torture. An abusive spouse is worse than a murderer. The reason is: they often use intimidation and manipulation to keep the abused partner under control at all times. They are sadists! They never want to see their husbands happy! They beat them up, call them all kinds of abusive nicknames, and even make the other partner feel worthless and unworthy. With that, the marriage will definitely break down, especially when the abused get tired of being constantly abused.
