In this year and age, everything is related to the Internet. From shopping, banking, paying bills, social interaction, communication and all the actions that humans do today were somehow linked to the use of the Internet. For several years he had been working a very traditional job in retail. However, personal circumstances made me rethink my current situation. Apart from me, I always feel that traditional jobs here in the Philippines are very time consuming. With a standard 48-hour job and one day off a week, spending quality time with family and colleagues seems unlikely. So if work schedules eat up so much of our time, is it worth it after all? This question bothered me for many months. Then one day I came across KOM Academy’s Facebook post for a free seminar on “How to be a virtual assistant”. Curious, I immediately inquired and pre-registered for this event. It was then that I realized that there are many opportunities outside of the traditional work environment.

What is a Virtual Assistant by the way? These are smart people who offer administrative, creative, and technical skills to remote clients. So what made me think this virtual job is so much better than my old job? Reason number 1, “I am my boss”! As a VA, as they call it, you work as an independent contractor for the client. Which means that you do not work for a company or an employer, but they subcontract you to provide them with the services they require. On this, you are not limited to work for a single client. Therefore, the second reason: more customers, more income. By this I mean that you cannot limit yourself to a single source of income. You are in control to expand your financial gains as you see fit. The third reason is at home. What’s not to love working in the comforts of your space? No commuting hassles, dealing with the city’s worsening traffic situation, rising transportation costs, annoying amnesiac office mates who always borrow your stuff but never bother to return it, are just a few of them. .

If there is a convenience in the environment, the work schedule is something that is also flexible in this industry. That is the fourth reason why I considered getting into this business. The opportunity to have a favorable schedule to your liking is something that is very rare in traditional jobs. Often, you must have a full-time job to earn a decent salary. While in VA, even part-time jobs can still bring you good pay. Mainly because you get paid based on the quality of your work and not just the number of hours you put in. Also, results-based jobs present more opportunities for workers to get promoted, since the evaluation is in real time.

The fifth reason I seriously consider is that this job is never boring. As mentioned above, VAs provide different administrative, creative, and even technical services for highly skilled people like programmers. Therefore, this job can present you with a wide range of tasks that you can explore and hone your skills.

These things cited above are just some of the factors why I considered becoming a virtual assistant. Having the convenience of time and place at your fingertips is a privilege that an ordinary worker will not be able to experience in a traditional work environment. As I continue on my journey into this business, I hope to discover more things to love and enjoy.
