my favorite mustaches

Today’s man seems to embrace a smooth cheek achieved with a Gillette razor, but where have all the whiskers gone? I’ve seen men with beards, the ones with stubble, some will sport a goatee, some might try lamb chops or even a van dyke, but what happened to the mustache? There is nothing more impressive than a guy sporting a bushy, thick, hairy mustache. These are my five favorite actors who show off an incredibly hairy upper lip.

5.Dabney Coleman

I have never seen him without a mustache; I’m pretty sure he was born with one. You may have seen Dabney Coleman’s mustache in from 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. She reappeared when she co-starred with Tom Hanks in The man with a red shoe and years later when he met Hanks again in You’ve got mail. My first encounter with his whiskey lip was in Cloak and dagger, where Dabney and his mustache play two roles in the film. The first is Colonel Osbourne, the rather absent father of the main character Davey (AND.’s Henry Thomas), and the second as Davey’s imaginary friend, super-spy Jack Flack. The plot involves the murder of a federal agent, a video game (from which the film gets its name), and Davey’s relationship with his imaginary hero/real-life father. The real star though is the mustache – Coleman has a tried and true look and I’m glad he’s kept it for so many years.

4. Burt Reynolds

He’s been sporting the ‘stache since the ’70s and he’s still going strong. Of smokey and the bandit and cannonball raceto more recent movies like Boogie Nights, Mystery, Alaska and danger dukesthe mustache has as much presence as the man who wears it.

In smokey and the banditReynolds’ job, as Bandit, is to discourage the police from investigating the contents of Cledus’ (Jerry Reed) big truck. The two head to Texarkana to illegally load up a half full of beer and bring it back across state lines. Along the way, Bandit picks up the runaway bride, Carrie (Sally Field). Hot on the Bandit’s trail is Sheriff Buford T Justice (Jackie Gleason), who was scorned when Carrie was left without her child.

Whatever the role, Burt Reynolds never disappoints when it comes to putting his best face on, especially if his mustache is involved.

3.Kevin Kline

I fell in love with Kevin Kline when I saw him on french kiss. It may have been the mustache or it could be that he is so dreamy. As Kate (Meg Ryan) flies to France to win back the affections of her ex-fiancée, she runs into Luc (Kevin Kline). Luc has a sordid past and is secretly using Kate to smuggle diamonds into the country. He helps Kate in her attempt to reunite with her lost love, but is really just trying to get her jewelry back. Or is he?

He doesn’t have a mustache in his more recent movies, but if you’re craving to be captivated by his old blurry face, I suggest you check it out. A fish named Wanda, silver, the man of january or the slightly darker pirates of penzance.

2.John Ratzenberger

He is also known as Cliff Clavin, the adorable postman from Health. Cliff is always found sitting at the end of the bar in his work uniform, drinking a mug of beer with his good friend Norm. Cliff is lonely, middle-aged and still lives with his mother, making him the target of many jokes, mostly from Carla, the fused little waitress. His “bar smarty” comments always keep him coming back for more, starting with “it’s a little known fact…” his portrayal of the famous postman has even found its way into other TV series like at, holy elsewhere, The Simpsons and phrases.

Although John’s mustache doesn’t appear onscreen in many movies or TV shows, when he lends his voice to family favorites like the life of a bug‘s PT Flea, Hamm the piggy bank on toy storyconstruction foreman tom de Above, and pretty much every other Disney Pixar movie that’s ever come out, you instantly think of that face, and of course, that mustache. He has even made it into an episode of Magnum, P.I.. starring alongside my number one favorite mustache.

1. Tom Sellek

He has the epitome of the perfect mustache. She has proudly displayed it in everything from IP magnum., quigley down, three men and a baby and (my personal recommendation) the Jesse Stone movies. There are eight movies in the made-for-television series, based on Robert Parker’s book series: Cold Stone, night passage, death in paradise, change of sea, thin ice, No regrets, Innocents Lost and Benefit of the doubt. Selleck plays a big-city ex-cop with a drinking problem who has accepted the job of police chief in a small New England town called Paradise. Citizens are being killed and there is strong pressure and scrutiny from the cabildo to deal with the matter and restore peace and tourism. It’s up to Jesse to find the culprits. As soon as you see one of these movies, you will be hooked!

I’ve seen Tom Selleck a few times without his iconic stash and he just looks so annoying and unnatural. Thank goodness he normally sticks to the legendary appearance of him, like in the current TV show of him. Blue blood.

I’d like to give an honorable mention to a few other famous lip warmer wearers: Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, Wilford Brimley, Groucho Marx, and of course, there’s no mistaking the striking facial follicles of the perfect cowboy, Sam Elliot.

I understand that it may be impossible for some men to grow an impressive mustache like Tom Selleck’s, but those who can should. I implore men with the gift of facial hair to grow a mustache, not a beard, or a goatee, or a van dyke, forget about lamb chops and that grim five o’clock stubble, just sport the moustache.
