Movie trailers: a preview to spark interest

Trailers are the best tools to pique the interest of the audience and get them interested in watching the movie. In India, Bollywood trailers have a special place in the film industry. Long before the movie hits theaters, trailers start appearing between prime-time television shows, in theaters where other movies are showing, and now on the Internet as well. In fact, almost all major production companies have a website dedicated to major film projects where trailers, songs, clips and curiosities about the film are uploaded.

The main objective of a trailer is to arouse the curiosity of the public. A well-thought-out selection of scenes, songs, and situations must be presented in the trailer to interest the viewer. Since songs and music are a very important part of any Indian movie, all Bollywood trailers also have a good portion of these. In fact, in many cases, Bollywood movies trigger a frenzy among fans long before the movie is released because a song or scene has captured the imagination of millions across the country.

The producers also use Bollywood trailers to give audiences a quick first look at the highlights of the film. A trailer tells the viewer about the various elements that they will find when viewing the full movie, such as action, comedy, or pathos. Some trailers give the viewer the gist of the basic story so that they are drawn to watch the movie and see how the situation unfolds.

Audiences also get a glimpse of the film’s cinematography and style by watching the trailers. Exotic foreign locations, elegant photography, and masterful shots can be amply showcased through the snapshots that trailers allow the producer to reveal. The look and feel of film can be conveyed very effectively using these film “nuggets”.

Movies that have a specific message at the end can also have a trailer expounding on the same message. This sets the stage for the producer/director to more easily and effectively communicate with the audience as they watch the entire film with the message in the back of their minds. For movies that focus on social issues, this technique works very well.
Whether it’s a serious social issue or a typical Hindi blockbuster action movie, Bollywood trailers are an indispensable part of the Indian film industry.

Producers and directors who know their audiences also know that skimping on the trailer could dampen enthusiasm for an upcoming movie and significantly reduce box office takings. This is why trailers are manufactured today with more care and even more diligence than ever before.
