Learning to bowl is fun for all ages

With so many different activities available today, why should learning to bowling be one of them? Bowling is a fun sport that can be played year-round, great in the winter when it’s freezing outside, and great in the summer when the temperatures and humidity become unbearable. Anyone can play the game, from young children to the elderly. Bowling can be played in many different ways.

The first way is open bowling. Open bowling is when someone walks into a bowling center and rents a lane and some shoes and then chooses a “house ball” that comes closest in size, weight and finger spread for the person to use comfortably. They then put on their shoes and roll the ball down the lane and try to knock down as many pins as possible.

The Second is a bowling party or company bowling party. Kind of similar to open bowling except the lanes are reserved for the organization or party event and will have experienced and novice bowlers bowling together.

The third type is more of a house specialty. Some centers offer what is known as Colorama, a three-game game where you pay for the lanes at a set fee and then while bowling colored pins will appear on the rack for some shots. If you get hit with a colored pin like the head pin you can when some cash, same goes for certain spares. Colorama also has bowling stroke tickets for a cash amount. These tickets are purchased separately and the money determines the amount of cash prizes on ticket rolls.

Other centers offer open bowling specials on weekends at certain times later in the evening. This type of bowling is where you play with the regular lights off and instead you will have black lights, laser lights, disco lights and lane lights all set to music. Usually this unlimited bowling game for a few hours. This has become a very popular recreation in recent days.

The Fourth is the bowling league. Bowling league also engages both beginners who want to take the next step in bowling and experienced bowlers who like the thrill of competition. This is where most bowlers really struggle to learn how to bowl. While many bowlers will purchase a ball, bag and shoes at some point after playing frequent open bowling, these are made for recreational purposes only, not to improve your skill level. This is where the bowler who is learning to bowl will look to purchase the right equipment to improve their game.

Learning the proper techniques, proper stance, proper approach, how to hold a ball, release the ball, throw your first hook ball, and compete on a team can be a lot of fun, especially when you see your improvement over time.

Every person learning to bowl will seek help at some point. Some bowling centers will have a resident professional who will give lessons, depending on the format, some may be simple lessons free of charge, while others will have fees.

There are also books and DVDs available to learn how to bowl. Bowling lessons and tips can also be found by doing an internet search by doing a search. Some of those tips may be clips on YouTube, while others may be online video lessons given by a professional bowler.
