Classic car restoration and dashboard rejuvenation is considered

If you own a custom street bar or classic car, you obviously want it in great shape. That means both exterior and interior. It goes without saying that the exterior needs to be freshly detailed and yet what about the interior? Most people who have classic cars for daily driving often neglect these things. But, since I know a thing or two about auto detailing, let me give you some tips on dash rejuvenation techniques.

You see, when cleaning and rejuvenating your car’s dashboard, it’s often a matter of preference. Some people like a glossy board and use an Armor All type product with a glossy shine, others think this looks unpleasant. You don’t need to have a shiny dashboard to rejuvenate or clean it perfectly.

In fact, if it is too bright, there may be a glare on the windshield and this can aggravate or make your eyes tired while driving. Here are some tips;

1. First, a thorough cleaning is very important. This means getting into all the crevices, using a soft bristle toothbrush, toothpicks (plastic or wood), and it means you have to take out those vents, soak them in soapy water, and clean around those openings.

2. You will be surprised how there must be dust and debris around the steering column and between the windshield and the dash. You’re going to have to spend the time and get this right.

3. It is essential that you choose the right cleaner because it is easy to discolor your board, and the older it is from years of UV abuse, the easier it will be to damage it.

4. Never spray anything, including window cleaner, on the clear plastic area where the speedometer is located, as they can easily become permanently fogged.

5. For cleaning, I recommend wet wipes with vinyl cleaner. Otherwise, use a microfiber towel or small bath towel. Always spray the cleaner on the towel, not directly on the board.

6. Sometimes, especially if it’s been a while or you smoke, there will be a fair degree of dirt and film on the dash so this may take a while. If you’re applying a lot of pressure that’s fine, but do it slowly and make sure you don’t discolor the vinyl or siding.

7. Once you have it perfectly clean, now you need to apply the conditioner. This is where you should make sure if you want it to be shiny or just plain (but protected and clean). Be sure to read the label before purchasing.

Speaking of labels, always follow the instructions, the different types of auto detailing products are designed to work in specific ways, don’t deviate from those instructions until you have used the product several times and understand how it works and its limitations.
