Slots or Dog Racing: Which Makes You More Money?
Casino games are very popular right now and are becoming more so every day. In my area, for example, there is a new casino with a luxury hotel and two restaurants. Although rooms cost more than the best chain hotel in town, there are rarely vacancies on weekends.
I went once when they first opened and it was fun. I played some slots, had an expensive drink and tried the buffet which was very good and reasonably priced too. It was definitely better than the hotdogs and watery coffee served at the local harness rink. But I’ve never been back, and probably won’t.
Why? Well, because I’m a dog player, not a gambler. I know it may sound like a contradiction in terms, but it’s true. If I only enjoyed gambling, I wouldn’t care what I was betting on. A real gambler will wager that two raindrops will fall through a window pane if he gets someone to accept his wager.
Me, I put the dogs at a disadvantage to make money off of it. I prefer to call it “selective investing” rather than gambling. What I do is the same thing that investors do when they put their money into stocks that they think will pay because the company is doing well.
I put my money in bets that I think are going to pay off because the ticket dogs are going to do well. Like the investor who makes money in the market, I am often right to make a profit. My dogs come in more often than they let in.
Now, maybe there is someone out there who can tell me how to do the same with slots, but I don’t know them yet. I know that there are mathematical formulas and books out there that claim to tell you how to “make the system work” and make slot machines worthwhile. I think they are nonsense.
As far as I can tell, the only skill needed to win at slots is bladder control and an endless supply of money. Give me a race with 8 dogs and I can handicap it. Give me a machine with a computer for a brain and I won’t have a chance to use the ability to defeat it.
No, I may stop by for food once in a while, but when it comes to making money, I’ll stick with my tried and true greyhound handicapping methods and hit the dog track as often as I can. I recommend that you find a good handicap method and do the same.
