Warning signs of domestic violence

It is incomprehensible to most people that the person they are dating or in love with can harm them. Most of the time it is friends or family who initially see something. You may be told that something is ‘not right’ in the relationship. It is estimated that more than 60% of relationships have some form of abuse.

Reports from the American Institute on Domestic Violence:

o 85-95% of all survivors of domestic violence are women

o More than 50,000 women are harassed by an intimate partner each year.

o 5.3 million women are abused each year

o 1,232 women are killed each year by an intimate partner

o Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women.

o Women are more likely to be attacked by someone they know than by a stranger

Who is at risk for domestic violence?

o Women aged 20 to 34 and increasingly, adolescent girls

o Women who abuse alcohol or other drugs or whose partners do

o Women who are poor are at higher risk, because they rarely have resources

o Battered women increase their risk of being killed when they are on the run or are hunted down and killed after leaving. (New York City Department of Health)
Regardless of the rate of violence or who initiates the violence, women are 7 to 10 times more likely to be injured in acts of intimate violence than men. (Office of Justice Statistics).

There are common indicators of potential physical abusers. Instead of denying what others are telling you and your thoughts, you should stop and observe your partner’s actions. Answer the following questions about your partner and your relationship.

o Are you discouraged or compelled to talk to family, friends, or coworkers?

o Are you jealous of your time, your career, other people in your life?

o Does your partner insist on going everywhere with you?

o Do you have to discuss activity plans, who you will be with and why you are going to do something with him / her before you can?

o Do you play mind games?

o Are you jealous of your success?

o Do you act negatively towards authority figures?

o Do you think that man makes the decisions?

or does he insult you?

o Do you belittle or speak ill of you?

o Does he blame you if something goes wrong?

o Do you deny your opinion, feelings, ideas, etc.?

o Does he get violent when he drinks alcohol?

o Do you come from an abusive or highly dysfunctional home? While not everyone is a potential abuser if they come from an abusive or highly dysfunctional family, there are reasons to consider their long-term behavior versus their current “making a living” behavior. The signs of an abusive person can be extremely subtle. Such as: Mini outbursts of anger; Frequent curse; Disregard for the rights of others; Frequent negativity; Mental games; Hostility towards authority; Interpreting the murder and / or abuse as he deserved it.

o Do you use shame and / or guilt to control a situation or get away with it?

o Do you lose your temper and throw things, hit objects or mistreat animals?

o Do you play down an act of aggression as a minor incident?

o Do you characterize domestic violence as an exaggeration or a myth?

These indicators are more than indicators: they are varying degrees of emotional abuse and a precursor to possible physical abuse.

Those who are in an abusive relationship rarely consider that they are part of the equation. In other words, it takes two people to create domestic violence. How do you fit into the equation? Answer the following questions.

o Do you have low self-esteem? People who abuse others look for people they find easy to control, manipulate, and generate power. Low self-esteem sets the stage.

o Do you come from an abusive or highly dysfunctional home? As noted above, belonging to an abusive or highly dysfunctional family does not mean that you will attract an abuser; however, the probability is significantly high. Growing up in an abusive and / or dysfunctional home fosters the impression that the ups and downs of abuse equate to love, after all people. [your parents], who claimed to love you more emotionally and physically hurt you. And even though you didn’t like it; then you look for someone who will give you the same “kind of love”, the kind that hurts, because it feels so good among the wounded.

o Do you believe in traditional and stereotyped relationship roles?

o Do you accept responsibility for disagreements or arguments, in addition to your own behavior?

o Do you accept responsibility for your behavior to keep the peace?

o Do you walk on eggshells to keep the peace?

o Do you accept the myths about domestic violence?

Or do you say to yourself: “I can handle it, it’s not that bad”.

o Do you feel guilty if he / she gets angry or jealous?

o Do you allow yourself to be controlled because you think the person would not do it if they did not love you?

o Do you think jealousy is proof of love?

o Do you think that some abuse is to come in an intimate relationship?

These indicators are emotional, but keep in mind that emotional abuse precedes physical abuse without fail. Emotional abuse is simply a warning sign, and by paying attention to the warning signs, you can protect yourself by avoiding being in the relationship. If you’re already in the relationship, because you didn’t see the warning signs (there are warning signs without fail), you will be able to pay attention to them and get out before they turn into physical abuse.

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the questions, you are in a relationship that could progress to physical abuse unless there is immediate and effective professional intervention. Both should seek career guidance separately. Accepting that you play a role in the abuse equation and that you take responsibility on your part is the first step to reconciliation, whether it be to resolve the issues or to separate. Similarly, the other person must acknowledge that their behavior is not acceptable and you must accept that they will allow them to continue abusing you if they continue in the relationship as is.

How to buy a puppy online safely and responsibly

As a lifelong dog owner and breeder for several years, I have found a great need to educate people in the process of buying a puppy online. There are so many breeders with so many options that it can all become overwhelming in no time. I support local shelters, but realize that there are many families who want a healthy puppy that has been raised with children to add to their family. If you have decided that a puppy like this is what you want for your family, then you will be on an adventure to find the right one for you. Once you’ve decided which breed is right for your family, you need to find a breeder. You can email your prospective breeder initially, but be sure to speak with him soon after you start communication. You can tell a lot by the attitude of the person and you will soon know if they have knowledge and experience in what they are doing by asking a few questions. Here is a list of questions to ask first of all:

1. Do you have a state license? – If a person does not have a state license, then he is raising dogs as a hobby or illegally. You want to find a puppy that has had research and planning going into their breeding, not just two dogs together to produce a puppy. If they don’t have a state license, don’t consider them. Many states have or are in the process of vastly improving their canine laws, making it impossible in many states to run a puppy mill and obtain a license.

2. Is this your full time business? There are many breeders who have OTHER full-time jobs in addition to their kennel. This makes it almost impossible to properly focus on your dogs and puppies. In our kennel, my husband and I work full time, as well as two part-time employees. Chances are, if your breeder has another job, your kennel is not the top priority and your satisfaction is not the top priority either.

3. Do you only sell puppies raised by you? There are many, many people advertising on the internet for other people and you can never see where your puppy was raised and raised. If you can’t physically see your puppy’s parents, don’t buy it. This is especially important when buying a designer (mixed) breed, as many people think they can get away with breeding anything and then adding a designer name to it. You also don’t want to support a puppy mill without knowing it by purchasing a puppy from a dealer. Often times, the reason people don’t sell their own puppies is because they have something to hide in their own place or because they don’t want to be responsible for any future problems. A good breeder will stand behind their puppies and offer a decent guarantee. If there is no guarantee with your prospective pup, walk away!

4. Do you wholesale your puppies? There are quite a few puppy mills that sell only some of their puppies and then ship the rest to pet stores, sometimes across the country. A good breeder will meet, or at least talk to, every new puppy owner. Responsible breeders care about their puppies and where they are going. A good breeder will also offer to carry the puppy throughout its life rather than having the puppy or dog go to a shelter due to the inability to care for the puppy.

5. Are your puppies AND adults regularly checked by the vet? I am appalled at the number of breeders who do not veterinarily monitor their puppies or adults. This is the most important step to take to ensure a healthy puppy is produced. Even breeders who control their puppies do not bother to control their breeding dogs. FOREVER. To deliver the best quality puppy, healthy parents are essential. Request proof of the parents’ veterinary reports. You may not think you should ask, but make sure puppies have all applicable vaccinations and deworming and ask for tests.

6. Can I see where your dogs are kept? An irresponsible breeder will tell you no. You may not necessarily be allowed into a kennel for a number of reasons, including biosecurity and health reasons, but you should at least be able to see adult dogs.

7. Do you have references from previous clients? This is a very important step. Don’t overlook it!

There are many more questions to ask your potential breeder. If your breeders show signs of good communication and a willingness to help you in your search and try to work with you, you have found something special. Quick responses mean they care about you and would like to help. If you do not receive responses via email or phone calls, it probably means that you will also not get answers to your questions after the sale. Don’t expect immediate responses because responsible kennel owners are extremely busy, but 24 hours is a reasonable expectation.

Stay away from dealers and websites with 800 numbers. They are advertising who knows who and are probably putting a huge margin on the pups. Also be wary of websites that offer 10-year warranties. This seems too good to be true and generally is. Read the fine print and see their outrageous requirements for this warranty to be in effect. Pet stores are out of the question. As cute as the pup may seem, refrain because you could be signing up for a lifetime of headaches and vet bills. Chances are, you’re supporting puppy mills by shopping at a pet store anyway.

When you go to the kennel to meet the puppy and the breeder, if you have a feeling that is not good when you arrive and when you leave, stay with him.

Despite all the risks and heartache that buying a puppy online can bring, there are many good and responsible breeders who offer quality puppies and lifelong support. Don’t be afraid to shop online, just be smart!

How do I get free foreclosure listings?

There are many ways to get a completely free list of foreclosures or houses that can no longer be paid for. Once you make the decision to invest in a home in foreclosure, you will need to search for free listings online. Some of the best foreclosure listings contain rich, up-to-date listings of all types of homes.

While many people are losing their homes to foreclosure, other people enjoy the glory of getting quality homes for less. There are many ways to get a completely free list of foreclosures or houses that can no longer be paid for. Once you make the decision to invest in a home in foreclosure, you will need to search for free listings online. Some of the best foreclosure listings contain rich, up-to-date listings of all types of homes.

This list should include details such as house size, number of bedrooms / bathrooms, photos, list price, and other common features. There are many ways to get a listing, such as taking advantage of free trial subscriptions. You will be able to save money and you will be able to find the best homes on the market.

Other tips to follow when obtaining this free listing is to make sure you expect damage or other minor problems the home may have. Some real estate investors pay to have someone inspect their home, which is not a bad idea.

Some websites will offer a free database that you can search based on your state and / or city. Most real estate investors enjoy this method as it is quick, easy, and painless. Most of these databases include other search options to limit their listings, such as; county, city, zip code, and which particular homes are being auctioned or on the pre-foreclosure listing.

The pre-foreclosure checklist is good for those who are interested in the ‘short sale’ method where they pay off the remaining balance on a home so the homeowner doesn’t have to go into full foreclosure. This method is also a favorite with real estate investors, as they typically only have to pay less than $ 10,000 to own the home (in most cases).

How Pokémon GO Can Be Better In 2017: 5 Tips From Ingress

Pokemon GO took off with insane momentum with its release in July 2016. Crowds of people young and old staring at their phones more than usual and walking in an apparent trance sliding their screens. But by the fall of 2016, many of the players had become bored or discouraged. Some reports suggested that 33% or more of the original players had dropped out and stopped going to the “gym,” so to speak.

Many don’t know that Pokemon GO was launched by a company that has had another successful augmented reality game running since 2012. That’s right, Niantic Labs, which started as an internal startup at Google and later became its own entity, produced a fun and somewhat popular AR game called Ingress years before Pokemon GO. Ingress started with a small release that was invite-only and Android only and then started expanding with 500,000 players reported in 2013, then 2 million in 2014, and then Niantic reported 7 million players in 2015. Hard to find, though. Numbers updated now, there are still over 4.5 million subscribers to the Ingress Google+ community, and many avid gamers.

Therefore, I say that Niantic can learn a few things to improve Pokémon GO from their other Ingress game. The two are already tied up. Most of the pokestops and gyms in Pokémon GO are located in the well-mapped “portals” of the Ingress game. In fact, I already suggested in a sarcastic post on my own blog that we can blame the Enlightened faction of Ingress for the appearance of Pokémon. If you’d like to read more about that, just do a search for “Pokemon GO: I Blame The Enlightened” (those of you who have played Ingress will know that the Enlightened were always trying to welcome XM’s strange anomalies and open the portals to allow mysterious forces to reach earth, while the Resistance was trying to protect earth from some alien force entering our realm).

5 login features that would benefit Pokémon GO

1) An intelligence map: Ingress has a map available to all players around the world that shows each portal and which team owns it. You can zoom into your local streets and see which portals are open, which ones have been taken over by your enemy, and which ones your team still owns. Imagine if you could check out this for Pokémon gyms and stalls that you might not know exist.

2) Notifications and in-game chat: Ingress allows you to chat with teammates and enemies within the game, and see updates when a portal is under attack. This could be fun in Pokémon.

3) Possibility of exchanging items with other players.: Have you ever run out of revives, potions or pokeballs? Imagine if you could borrow something from your teammates in the heat of battle instead of having to walk around and find pokestops to stock up. In Ingress, you can drop items for other players, as they have a 12-hour disintegration clock and therefore if they are not collected, they disappear from the scanner map. The only problem is that opponents can grab them too. So you need to be crafty. But this method would be great to free up space in your backpack or storage from time to time. Another option is an NPC in gyms who stores trades for you or a team member.

4) Shields and protection: In Ingress you can collect shields and weapon items that help protect your portals by altering the effectiveness of attacks, or even turrets that attack the opposing team’s players when they get too close to a portal. This could be tweaked a bit so that Pokémon Go adds additional difficulty to gym battles or perhaps causes the scanner to display incorrect information for a period of time, etc. There are many options. Perhaps one could be a Team Rocket sabotage when 3 or more opponents try to take over a gym.

5) Community events: Ingress has big events in key cities and locations where teams come to compete or complete tasks in the area in a set period of time. It creates a lot of community and strategic planning and it would be interesting if something similar could carry over to Pokémon GO. I imagine an area of a city with dense pokestops and gyms. In-game prizes would be offered to the team that performs tasks like, taking over 5 gyms for your team, raising them to level 6, and making the pokeman king of all gyms a Vaporean. The first team to do so gets bonus coins and potions or evolves rare or something like that.

Cities taken hostage by sports owners?

I usually only care about baseball as it relates to young players, coaches, and parents. I leave the most important philosophical questions to the big boys, like ESPN and the like.

I admit I’m as guilty as anyone else for just paying attention to my hometown MLB team, my beloved St. Louis Cardinals, but reading an article about the Miami Marlins and how they treat their fans. it made my blood boil. .

I’m not here to blame or take sides because I don’t know the facts, but I want to ask the question: “Do professional sports teams hold cities hostage?”

When a city, which means taxpayers, agrees to pay the bill for a stadium of professional sports teams, regardless of the sport, have the owners of the teams become partners of the city or owners of the city?

Professional sports will claim they are a private company and can do whatever they want with the team, including moving to another city or stripping the team of its best players and the city has no legal rights to protest.

Now I am not a business genius and I know that private companies of all kinds negotiate tax benefits and certain commitments from cities regarding sewers, streets, etc., but they do not dispute a completely free and paid 10-story office building by taxpayers who then occupy just one office with two employees and leave the rest of the complex vacant.

Worse still, they don’t return to the city three years later and demand that the city pay for the building remodel or else the company will move to another city leaving the city trapped with an empty building and a huge financial burden.

I hope you are reading this and thinking “How absurd is this scenario”, but this is exactly what professional sports teams do. The Colts’ midnight move to Indianapolis from Baltimore, Houston to Tennessee, the Rams to St. Louis and I could go on and on.

Speaking of the Rams, they have been successful in their demands that St. Louis pay the bill for a $ 700 million stadium renovation or the construction of a new stadium. Of course, the Rams gave fans thrills, including a Super Bowl Trophy, but that was under different ownership.

The current owner has a less than spectacular track record of fielding a team of NFL caliber, but he is holding the city hostage for an engrossing rescue with the threat of leaving the city.

Professional sports leagues are monopolies. The “scourge”, which is the act of pitting one entity against another, in order to obtain the best deal for them, in this case one city against another, is the only private business action that leagues and companies have in common.

The cities, which actually means community people in real life, busting themselves every day for a living and paying for these palaces through their taxes, deserve better than to be treated like serfs. If the MLB and the NFL specifically, don’t change their grandiose opinion of themselves in regards to people, then, like AT&T and other monopolies, they should be broken.
