How to Hire a Maid in Singapore

Hire the service of a cleaning agency. You can hire the service of an authorized agency in Singapore. All licensed agencies are given a license number which you can check through the Ministry of Manpower website. The cleaning agency will clearly inform you of the breakdown of fees and the cost involved.

Select your desired maid profile. The agency will provide you with biographical data on domestic workers available for employment. You can review their biographical data and select some that you think may meet your needs. Some agencies can arrange an interview with your desired foreign workers via webcam or phone, even when you are not in Singapore. You will need to make an appointment with the cleaning agency to set up an interview.

If you have any expectations for the domestic helper, let the agency know so they can provide you with the most appropriate biographical data for your consideration.

Attend the Employer Orientation Program (EOP). You will need to attend a 3-hour Employer Orientation Program (EOP) if this is your first time hiring a domestic worker. This program helps you understand your role and responsibilities as the employer of a domestic worker.

You can take the EOP in the classroom or take it online.

Classroom EOP: $28-$30.

Online EOP: $40.

Work permit application for the selected domestic worker. The cleanup agency will process and request the required work permit and paperwork with MOM on your behalf. Please note that all employers are required to purchase personal accident insurance for their domestic helper. The agency will process all of this on your behalf and it is usually already included in their service packages.

Documentation, airport maid pick-up and medical check-ups. This is usually done by the cleaning agency. All first-time domestic helpers must attend a 1-day orientation program within 3 days of arrival in Singapore. The Installation Program (SIP) helps educate them on safety precautions and life in Singapore.

Documentation work with MOM must be done within 14 days of arrival and fingerprinting and photography must be done within 7 days of work permit card processing submission. If all goes well, the maid can collect the work permit card from her in 1 week.
