The 5 biggest barriers to being fit after 40: how to get your groove back!

What makes an experienced woman? Time. Like a good wine, she is complex. Full of surprises. Her life experience has taught her that she is not defined by her chronological age. If you are an experienced woman, you know that your health is your most precious asset. You know that the greatest gift you can present to the world is a healthy YOU, physically, mentally and emotionally.

But if you’re over 40 and especially if you’re over 45, you’ve probably realized that staying fit and healthy isn’t the same game you played in your 20s and 30s. You may not be able to lose weight as easily as before. The same workouts are not producing the same results. Every woman over the age of 40 knows that feeling of frustration when she has gained a few extra pounds, or of not being able to exercise as intensely as she did before. Busy lifestyles make healthy eating and exercise even more challenging. While not everyone is the same, and every woman has different personal health needs and concerns, every woman needs to exercise and adopt healthy eating habits. I’ve identified 5 of the biggest barriers to staying in shape after 40 and how she can overcome them. I want you to challenge your beliefs about eating, exercising, and how you look. Learn about your individual “factory settings” and how you can stay fit and healthy naturally and intuitively. Staying fit is not about feeling bad. It’s about feeling strong.

And have fun, not stress over every bite of food or every minute on the treadmill. Remember, you become what you believe! Be the beautiful and experienced woman that you are – it’s the spice that makes the dish!

Barrier 1: Cookie Cutter Syndrome

Your body has specific factory settings that are unique to you. What you may not know is that your body naturally wants to get you to your optimal weight (not Jessica Alba’s or Angelina Jolie’s) as long as you don’t fight it. You just have to reacquaint yourself with yourself and stop using diet and exercise programs that don’t address YOUR special needs! Yes, it can be more difficult to lose or maintain your weight once you hit your forties and how your individual body works, you can get results faster and keep them off easier.

You’ll look great and feel even better. Take off your clothes and take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Like a lobster that sheds its old shell and grows new shells throughout its life, you have the power to let go of old body images and accept who you are right now, without punishing yourself for it. Start paying attention to your body. Follow his wisdom. You are not condemned to be overweight or to be on a perpetual diet. Once you accept the body you were born with, you can return to your unique normal weight, just as nature designed. What I am strongly opposed to is the endless pressure to be THIN. That is a big part of the problem. Data from some treatment centers show a steady increase in eating disorders in women over the age of 40. We are all different. Some bodies are meant to be smooth and curvy. Others are naturally sharp and angular. That is the beauty of diversity. Accepting and loving the unique beauty of your body will set you free and give you confidence and power!

Barrier 2: taking care of your metabolism

Nutrition is essential for metabolism. Everyone is familiar with the word “metabolism,” but not many people know what it means. You probably know someone who can eat whatever they want and not gain weight. Well, if you think that some people are born with a robust metabolism… that’s a myth!

The truth is that you are not a victim of your metabolism, it is the creator of your metabolism. There is no mystery. Food is simply energy, your body requires energy to function. Food in the form of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are your main sources of energy (calories). Take more energy than you need from any of these and your body will store it as fat. So fat loss is all about energy balance. Simple, right? You have to eat smarter, not less. When you restrict calories below the minimum amount of energy required to fuel your nervous system, your body thinks it’s starving. When this happens, your body is not only burning muscle for fuel, but by doing so, your body is actually slowing down your metabolism.

When you lose muscle, you are lowering your metabolism. Lose the “eat less, weigh less” mentality. Restricting your calories will guarantee a slower metabolism. The act of eating HEALTHY, which prompts your body to process supporting foods frequently, ensures a faster metabolism. A faster metabolism means that your body becomes a fat burning machine.

Barrier 3: Diet Addiction Diets don’t work.

The health and fitness industry is banking on the fact that you either don’t know this or you won’t believe it. But if you’ve tried to lose weight in the past on any kind of fad diet and only gained the weight back and then some, you know what I mean. I know, you’re probably thinking that you have to be on a diet forever to have any kind of permanent weight loss. But nothing could be further from the truth. With rare exceptions, most people were born with normal body weights. But then we learned to diet instead of eating intuitively. Dieting puts the body into survival mode, that is, starvation. Dieting indicates deprivation to your body and triggers a biological drive to prepare the body to maximize food intake and minimize energy burned to save itself. Making the best food choices is your secret weapon in your quest to get 40+ fit. Eating in solidarity will help you speed up your metabolism, burn more fat, and increase your energy dramatically. The goal here is to be FIT and HEALTHY and look great for YOUR body type.

Believe it or not, good nutrition is that powerful! And you can change your eating habits (or lack of food) little by little. Aim for at least one healthy option each day and more supportive than the day before. Go for 2-3 upgrades every week. Making these small nutritional changes will quickly add up to amazing results as you gain control over your metabolism.

Barrier 4: Ignoring the Fab 4

There are 4 essential components of fitness. If you want to get in shape and avoid injury, you’ll need a few variations of all of them. Many clients complain about taking the time to stretch or just want to do cardio without weight training or weight training without cardio. You need them ALL. So here comes the excuse. “My life is chaotic enough right now! I don’t have time!” Well, you don’t need a lot of time, but you will need something. And if living a healthy lifestyle is important to you, you’ll have to commit. But the more you do it, the more you want to do it. So what are they? Cardiovascular exercise increases your metabolism so that you burn energy at a higher rate than if you were not exercising. Reduces appetite by activating the sympathetic nervous system. This activates your “fight or flight” response. What does that mean? Try this:

The next time you feel a pang of binge eating, take a brisk walk or jog. Notice how you feel after exercising. Your hunger will decrease or disappear completely. Cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and flexibility exercises will help you lose the extra weight that is stressing your joints. You will strengthen the joints and lengthen the muscles, which reduces the risk of injury in your daily activities.

Barrier 5: Leaving your goals to chance

As a personal trainer, I see many clients grabbing their weights and putting on their shoes before they know exactly what they want to achieve. My advice to them and to you is: don’t leave anything to chance. Research shows that writing down your health and fitness goals makes them 95% more achievable. The more specific you are about what you want, the more likely you are to do what it takes to get it. First, review your expectations. Are your goals reasonable? While it would be nice to lose 20 pounds in 7 days, there is no sure way to do it. Unrealistic expectations undermine your efforts and make it difficult to stay on track. Look beyond the obvious. Set goals that can be measured with something other than a bathroom scale, like lowering your blood pressure by 10 points or increasing the distance you can walk or jog. When it comes to working out, the most common excuse cards played are the queen for “not enough time” and the ace for “it’s not convenient.” You will always be busy. And it’s much easier to sit down with a glass of wine or a bowl of ice cream than it is to run to the corner or do crunches on a stability ball. But the truth is that they are not valid excuses. You don’t have to go to the gym and you can spend 30 minutes a day exercising. For years, I worked out first thing in the morning before work or at night after the kids went to bed with nothing more than a couple of exercise videos, some hand weights, and an exercise bench I bought at Goodwill for 5 dollars.

It starts right where you are. If you don’t (or can’t) make time to do this FOR YOU, maybe the problem isn’t the fact that you’re short on time. Perhaps your life has gotten too out of hand and the question now becomes priorities. Your health and wellness should be at the top of the list! You can start with minimal equipment and space. It’s easy and cheap! The best advice I can give you is to START. Start moving. Shake! Have you ever noticed those skinny hummingbird type people? Well, studies show that it’s not some mysterious food substance, cell or hormone that makes these people burn fat like an iron skillet: it’s movement. Obviously, it’s not THAT simple, but it’s true that the more you move, in very subtle ways, the more calories your body will burn throughout the day. And that will have more than subtle positive effects!

  1. Balance and flexibility
  2. Muscular strength and endurance
  3. body composition
  4. aerobic capacity

The composition of your body changes as you age. Weight gain after 40 and especially after 50 is very common. The most dangerous type is around the midsection due to its proximity to organs, making it the highest risk for heart disease. The good news is that the combination of cardio, resistance and flexibility exercises means that a healthy body composition will take care of itself! We lose an average of 5% of muscle mass every ten years after the age of 35, if we do nothing about it. A side effect of this is weight gain. If you don’t intentionally rebuild muscle through exercise, and you’re eating the same amount of food (or more) than you did when you were in your 30s, you’ll win. Muscle gives us the metabolic capacity to burn calories EVERY time we move, whether we’re active or at rest. Muscles are constantly being fueled by calories, even when you’re lying on the couch with the remote in hand.

How to make baby food with a steamer and blender

Baby foods should be supplemented at the age of 6 months when your baby requires additional nutrition in addition to breast milk. Although breast milk will suffice for a baby’s needs up to the age of 6, after that there is a need for additional nutrition to meet the demands of a growing baby.

Since the baby did not develop a complete dentition, the digestion of food did not occur properly in the initial stages. Thus, to overcome this problem, smooth purees are prepared so that the food can be easily digested.

Do you need a blender and steamer?

A blender makes the job easier. Earlier in the old days there were no blenders so one had to do it manually and the main problem with this manual process was that the food would not blend properly. As these foods contain fibrous elements that are not easy to digest, it should be mixed properly.

How to make baby food using a steamer?

The job of a steamer is to soften food so that it blends easily with a blender. The steamer allows the water to absorb into the fruits and thus softens them. Once this food has softened, it is easy for a child to digest.

  • The first initial step involves peeling fruits or vegetables. These fruits and vegetables include apples, pears, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and bananas.
  • Slice the vegetables and then place them in a steaming basket and steam until you can easily stab them with a knife.
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes before blending.

How to mix food using a blender-

The blender breaks down the food into small pieces. This is what our teeth do for us. Since children have underdeveloped teeth, these blenders facilitate the action of the digestive system by turning food into smaller pieces or ground form.

After you have steamed all the vegetables and fruits, add them into a blender or food processor and puree on medium speed until these vegetables become a puree.

Before serving this puree, add a little milk or water to make it more digestible.

Before giving your child these purees, you should consult your pediatrician. It is always better to take the advice of a doctor in these matters.

Stage 1 baby food should be thin and runny. These are those foods that are easily digested since the baby did not fully develop her digestive system. Never replace these foods with breast milk as there is no supplement for breast milk.

There is a myth that one should stop breast milk at the age of 6 months and allow their child to be completely dependent on such purees. But this is really not apt as it may cause various diseases in your child and lower your child’s immunity.

Loudest Bands Ever: 10 Deafening Acts That Will Pound Your Brain With Sound

For decades, musicians have turned their amps up to 11 in a quest to wow audiences with their walls of sound.

From old-school heavy metal to cutting-edge electronic artists, bands from a variety of genres have shattered eardrums, damaged buildings, and even caused earthquakes due to the sonic booms they produced.

In this article, we profile 10 of the loudest bands in history, outline the impact their audio assaults have had on their audiences and arenas, and detail how each earned their reputation as soldiers of sound.

Motor head

Lemmy Kilmister and his crew started out with the goal of being the loudest, dirtiest, fastest, toughest band in the world, and many will say they succeeded.

Their live concerts could reach a powerful 130 decibels, and venues around the world suffered as a result.

At the Cleveland Theater of Variety in 1984 they caused the plaster ceiling to break and fall on the audience below, while in the UK they smashed the roof of Newcastle Town Hall, smashed the windows of Wolverhampton Polytechnic and set fire to the speakers in Puerto Vale FC.

It’s no surprise then that they titled one of their live albums ‘Everything Louder Than Everyone Else’.

Left Garden

This electronic duo proved they could match any heavy metal band for destructive noise when they performed at the Brixton Academy in June 1996.

Their concert was measured at 137 decibels and the brutally loud beats ripped pieces out of the building. Having covered their audience with bits of plaster and dust from the walls and ceilings, the group were not invited to perform at the venue for another four years, and only on the condition that they turn down the volume.

my bloody valentine

This alternative rock band practically reinvented what guitars could sound like on their 1991 album heartbreak, immersing the songs in layer upon layer of feedback and distortion. When performed live, the combined force of all sound levels became terrifyingly loud.

During the tour to promote the album, the band set out to test their audience’s ability to withstand extreme volume for extended periods of time, leading one journalist to describe the shows as “more torture than entertainment”.

Fans attending concerts were often issued earplugs before entering, and despite the band spending more than 20 years on hiatus, breaking up entirely or unsuccessfully attempting to record a follow-up to Loveless, the first few days left their mark in the form of chronic tinnitus. .

“I consider him a friend,” said singer/guitarist Kevin Shields.

The OMS

On May 31, 1976, 75,000 people packed Charlton Athletic’s football ground in London to watch a line-up headlined by The Who. His performance that night was measured at 126 decibels… 100 feet away from the speakers.

However, being among the loudest bands in history came at a price for the members, as Roger Daltrey told reporters in 2018: “My advice to all you rock and roll fans: bring your damn earplugs. to the concerts.” If only we had known when we were young… we’re reading lips.’

blue joy

American psychedelic rockers Blue Cheer are considered pioneers of extreme loudness, being the first band to be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s loudest band.

In the late 1960s, his volume levels were well beyond what people were accused of, and fans at his concerts often had to leave the front rows because they couldn’t stand the noise.

Blue Cheer were so loud they had to record outdoors, and part of their second album was recorded on a San Francisco pier.

Manowar

These power metal troublemakers often write songs influenced by tales of swords, sorcery, fantasy, and mythology, and are well known for their epic, smashing sound. It seems fitting, then, that Manowar has apparently been on a quest to reach volume levels that no other band can match.

In 1984, the group was named by the Guinness Book of World Records for giving the loudest performance in history, and they have since broken their own record two more times.

Their current personal best decibel count was achieved during a soundcheck at Magic Circle Fest in 2008, when they hit a mighty 139 decibels.

Dark purple

Another band recognized as the world’s loudest by the Guinness Book of World Records, Deep Purple are among the creators of inflicting supreme noise punishment on their over-eager audiences.

An entire generation grew up with Deep Purple pounding their eardrums and earning their place in rock folklore, while some fans ended up taking harder hits than they bargained for, as three audience members attending a 1972 concert at the London Rainbow Theater were knocked unconscious by the blow. force of the sonic assault to which they were subjected.

Kiss

Gene Simmons’ latex-clad performers had their heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, so it’s perhaps surprising that their loudest moment came in December 2009.

During a performance in Ottawa, Canada, the band reached an extraordinary 136 decibels. The concert was apparently so loud that noise complaints from city residents forced the band to turn down the volume mid-show.

foo fighters

During a show in Auckland, New Zealand on December 13, 2011, Dave Grohl and his crew literally shook the earth. Over the course of their 3-hour set, the band caused a movement in the ground similar to a volcanic tremor that was felt up to a mile away.

That clearly wasn’t enough, as the following year they played a concert in Belfast to 32,000 fans who could be heard up to 12 miles away, resulting in 140 noise complaints.

led zeppelin

These rock gods have long been considered one of the best, loudest and most influential bands in history. Known as one of the founders of heavy metal, Led Zeppelin’s soulful crunch hit harder than nearly every band before it.

Anecdotally, many music journalists believe that the group’s performances during the 1970s were the loudest of that decade, but their legacy of loudness gained official recognition when the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) measured a performance of heartbreaker at a staggering 130 decibels.

Fun ideas for children’s birthday parties

Do you want to organize a great birthday party without much stress? Now your son can have a wonderful birthday if he follows these tips.

Timing is everything. A children’s birthday party can be as simple or as complicated as you want. If you’d rather not go through the fuss of serving a meal, schedule your party to start just after lunchtime and end before dinner.

Invitations. Make it easy for other parents with clear instructions. If you don’t want people spending a fortune on gifts, say so on your invitation. Let the parents know they can stay for the party. Unless you’re short on space, the extra adults will help keep the kids safe.

Early notice. These days kids have so many events scheduled for the weekend that it’s hard for many families to show up to a party unannounced. Try to send your invitations at least 6 weeks in advance.

keep it simple Don’t invite everyone. If the birthday child is under the age of 3, strongly consider keeping the number of children invited very low. Young children are still developing social skills and a very crowded and noisy party can be traumatic for the little ones.

Make it easy to RSVP. Please include your email and phone number in your invitation. When possible, also use online invitations. Please request an RSVP at least two weeks in advance. Having the exact number of guests will make planning easier.

Bigger is not always better. Would you rather go to a big small party or a big boring one? By keeping your guest list small, you can afford to treat your guests to live entertainment and gourmet food. Think smaller but better.

Plan your party activities. Do not ruin it. An adult party doesn’t need structured events. Adults will find a way to have fun. Children, on the other hand, will find mischief.

Variety. Every party should have a dynamic rhythm. Quiet periods and noisy moments. Talk time and movement time. Time to eat, time to laugh. Orchestrate the party to end on a high note.

Entertainment. Seasoned party planners suggest a group activity or live interactive entertainment to create a wonderful party experience. A party DJ might host a line dance, or a party magician might perform tricks using volunteers from the audience.

Food. Children get excited at birthday parties, often too excited to eat. No matter how delicious the food is, children don’t sit still for long. Place plenty of healthy snacks within children’s reach. Avoid foods with sauces unless you want to clean your carpets.

Rent. The location you choose for your child’s birthday party has a huge impact on the behavior of the guests. Arcades tend to provoke aggressive and hyperactive behavior. A house party tends to put the birthday boy in a more relaxed frame of mind.

Indian vegetarian food is known to be healthy, tasty and delicious.

Many Indian recipes were developed in accordance with the laws and principles of nature or dharma. These principles state that we are basically what we eat, since different foods affect our bodies in different ways. We eat to live, we don’t live to eat, and there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.

North Indian cuisine

North Indian cuisine is typically from the Punjab region of the country, also known as the land of five rivers. The region has very fertile soils and ample means of irrigation. As a result, it is very rich in agriculture and is known as the “bread basket of India”. Punjab was divided into two provinces in 1947 when Pakistan seceded from India. Therefore, the western part is now an eastern province of Pakistan. Therefore, the kitchen has quite a bit of diversity when it comes to the way the food is prepared. Sometimes the spices of each dish vary from one region to another, depending on migration and family tradition.

Restaurant food tends to be heavier and richer due to the generous use of fats such as oil and clarified butter or ghee, while home-cooked meals are simpler and more flavorful. Local specialties from the Punjab region are a foodie’s dream. For example, makki di roti, a thick tortilla-like bread made from cornmeal, or sarson da saag, a vegetable dish made from rapini-like dark green leaves often served with corn roti.

indian vegetarian diet

The practice of a primarily vegetarian diet in Indian culture began thousands of years ago. It was evident in the Vedic sacred texts, which are ancient books of wisdom handed down through the centuries. These texts endorse a meatless lifestyle and, in the Hindu tradition, are considered the first rule for obeying the will of a higher power.

In Hinduism, cows are considered a sacred animal. The slaughter of cows and the consumption of their meat is considered a taboo. The Rigveda text refers to the cow as a goddess. But there are other reasons behind a mainly vegetarian diet in Indian culture besides these religious tenets.

Karma is defined as “the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence” and is considered to “decide his fate in future lives.” In other words, what goes around comes around. Eating another animal’s meat is considered to inflict unnecessary pain and cruelty for his own benefit, and has consequences for his life afterward.

Although religion is the most common reason for following a vegetarian diet in India, there are other, more practical reasons as well. A diet that restricts meat and is rich in fruits, vegetables, and grains has been shown to reduce the risk of certain foods such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and dental problems. It has also been shown to reduce or prevent certain types of cancer. In addition, the foods of this type of vegetarian diet are digested faster than meat, so they provide more energy to the body.

Some key components of the Indian vegetarian diet:

  • Bread: Naan and roti are traditional Indian breads made from wheat or flour and then cooked on a stove or in a tandoor.

  • Rice – Rice has been a staple of vegetarian cooking for centuries and can be flavored in a number of ways. Rice pilaf, biryani and kheer are some examples.

  • Curry: refers to sauces and cooked spiced vegetable dishes and can vary by region.

  • Fried: sweet and savory delicacies like pakoras, samosas, poori, gulab jamun.

  • Sweets – Typically made with milk, nuts, dried fruit, and certain grain and bean flours.

preparation methods

One thing that makes Indian food so deliciously fresh and flavorful is simply how it’s prepared. Below are some of the most common and traditional ways to cook Indian food:

  • Tandoori – While most people associate tandoori with spicy grilled dishes, tandoori simply refers to cooking in a tandoor, a metal or clay oven that is heated with wood or charcoal. It allows slow heating and long roasting times are essential for creating tasty vegetable or meat dishes, as well as breads such as naan and tandoori roti.

  • Tawa – This is a large, flat metal pan that is used as a griddle for making flatbreads like roti, and can also be curved at the edges to hold meats or vegetables, much like a wok.

  • Fried: Foods fried in oil or clarified butter add a crispy crunch to vegetables, fish, or meats that are first dipped in a spiced batter.

Computer game genres

People who play computer games learn the type (genre) that interests them. Then, they select options that fit the gender before buying. But, a person who wishes to give a computer game to a family member or friend may want to observe the receiver’s game to minimize the risk of giving out the wrong type.

Computer game genres include: combat, adventure, fantasy, strategy, sports, simulations, and teaching. While not a complete list of genres, these guys are in the top ten. The combat mainly appeals to children. They often include violence, anger, and realistic carnage. Look for an age rating and parental feedback on the game, and especially get the approval of a youngster’s parent before giving away such a game. Realize that repetitive use mimics repetitive teaching.

An adventure game can appeal to boys or girls, and they tend to follow the same lines of adventure found in movies about pirates, secret agents, or lost worlds. In game form, experience an adventure instead of just watching the movie. Fantasy does the same in a mythical setting that can include wizards, witches, dragons, hobbits, zombies, etc. Experience the competition with a sports game. The games align with a particular sport, such as soccer, and sometimes allow a player to play the role of a favorite royal sports figure.

A simulation game teaches and allows the player to experience turning on and using the equipment. For example, you can play the experience of getting into a Cessna 172 plane, turning it on, and then flying it. This simulation realistically shows the player how to operate the aircraft and simulates the flight. A strategy game goes further to immerse the player in a world setting (or fantasy world). Usually played online, the strategy pits the player against the powerful computer that the game producer uses to apply artificial intelligence to defeat the player. This type often takes days and perhaps months to complete. The player combines his wits with the computer in a real scenario, until he or she decides to stop. The player thinks about the strategy after the game is over, if the game was challenging and fun. The player can research new techniques and form a plan for their next move to defeat the computer when play resumes.

Match the computer game genre to the player before gifting a game to a family member or friend. You could become someone’s hero. #tag1writer

Children’s Party Dos and Don’ts: A Guide for Parents

DO

  • Find the time to organize the party yourself. Get help from family or friends if you need it, because a children’s party is a job for at least two people. Parents know that it takes time to throw a children’s party, which has given rise to the trend for hired party planners. But such events lack the personal touch and cost a fortune. A good children’s party should not cost much: it is your love and imagination that will win the day with your child, not your money.
  • Let your child participate in the planning. Learning to plan is part of growing up and who better than your child to tell you what children like.
  • Think twice before hosting an activity party, like rock climbing, at your local gym/sports facility.. The cost per person can be very high and you will often find children who are not interested in the activity. So what do you do with them for the next hour?
  • Have a theme and stick to it from invitations, to children’s clothing, to decorations, to fun and games to jelly and ice cream. You need to create a unified experience, whether it’s superheroes, outer space, dinosaurs, or cartoon characters. A themed party will definitely streamline your planning and give you ideas for activities, while running a series of games offline is inviting chaos. Being a parent is hard enough.
  • Keep your child’s interests in mind when choosing your topic. Horses, rockets, cartoons, soccer… Let yourself be guided by your interests.
  • Spend time thinking about birthday invitations.. Consider the invitation the first activity of the party and build anticipation and excitement. Invitations with a gift are a good idea. An invitation to a pirate party with an eyepatch, or an invitation to a football party with a football chocolate. Balloons with hidden invites always win.
  • dress for the part. Where is the magic when the master of pirate games is dressed in jeans and a t-shirt? Or worse still, in a shirt and tie?
  • leave with a bang. A good idea at the beginning, when everyone is together, is to reinforce the theme with something visual and incorporate a small gift. For example, pirates get a pirate medallion, cowboys get neck scarves. Then move on to something energetic like a relay race, an obstacle course, followed by something creative and relaxing, then something active, and so on. In this way, you can moderate energy levels during the party.
  • Let kids eat a small snack early on to keep energy levels up.
  • Keep your party short, but active. Two hours is fine. If you keep it short, the children’s experience will be richer and they will enjoy it much more than if you drag things out. After all, your son has a reputation to uphold, and having parents throw a good party is important, stupid.
  • Plan for quick changes in activity and focus. Kids will love it if there’s always something new to do, so plan a selection of activities. Jumping from one to another is the key to success. As a guide, plan one activity for every 15 minutes of party time, and have two or three as a backup.
  • May prizes and surprises continue to arrive, and give children a goal for doing the activity. For example, ‘the first to find five chocolate eggs gets…’
  • Aim for kids to leave wishing the party never ended. The ending is all about show business and dynamism. Have the stack of coats and goodie bags ready before this final activity, then fill the final minutes with entertainment. You could launch helium balloons or run a silly race. Do whatever makes the kids leave with a smile on their faces, and leave one on yours.
  • Stay relaxed and have fun. Yes, you have to make everything run smoothly, but make sure you enjoy it. You are hosting a birthday party, not a business conference.

WHOSE

  • Let your child pressure you into participating in an overly complicated or expensive event at a local restaurant complex, with all kinds of fees charging special animators. Your son is a consultant, you are the father. Organize the party at home, leaving space, where you can control it, and perhaps have an entertainer if you think it is necessary. Remember that you You can create enough fun and excitement in your own backyard with careful planning and lots of energy throughout the day.
  • Greet guests arriving at your child’s dinosaur-themed party by walking out the front door dressed as Godzilla, roaring like a formula one car. If he does, things are likely to get off to a tearful start when some of the more nervous guests fail to see the funny side of this six-foot terror coming down the garden path.
  • Forget writing your plan. Know where you are going and what is next. As any teacher will tell you (its author has ten years of teaching experience), once a child loses trust in the gamemaster, lack of cooperation and trouble is never far away.
  • Forget adding a little fancy. If your theme is pirates and treasure, develop the story. You have been shipwrecked, but all is not lost because you have found a clue to the location of the magical coconut. Find the coconut, throw it off the perch and…
  • Forgetting to leave enough time for the jello and ice cream.. Twenty minutes should be fine.
  • Try to reinvent the wheel. Tried and tested board games like relay and scavenger hunts are so popular because they they work. You can always incorporate more new ideas around you, but have the tried and tested activities as a central part of your plan. They will save the day.
  • Don’t listen to anyone who tells you silly rules about how many children should attend. for a 5 year old, how many for a 6 year old. Ask your child who they want to invite and go from there, keeping things manageable. Make sure no one important is left out because of a recent argument between kids, and make sure you don’t have a room full of strangers.
  • Forget asking parents of guests to RSVP/answer before a certain date then follow up with a phone call.
  • Panic. Expect the unexpected because it will happen and you will just have to adapt. Such is the lot of parents.

Well, that’s your lot. If I’ve missed anything, please let me know. Good luck with the party!

chinese new year parade

All Chinese communities are ecstatic and extravagant during the Chinese New Year. One of the highlights of this event is the Chinese New Year parade. The Chinese New Year Parade continues to amaze and delight the millions of people who witness it year after year and remains one of the most inspiring and celebrated events.

The Chinese New Year parade is grand in every sense of the word. The young, the old, the rich and the poor throng the streets to watch the event with enthusiasm. The showcase of lion and dragon dances, street performers, colorful costumes, fireworks and happy faces make the annual Chinese New Year parade and celebration truly unforgettable.

The lion dance symbolizes the arrival of good fortune. While performers dance through the streets, people are also entertained by drumming and gongs. These instruments create the lively, dynamic sounds that accompany the Lion Dance. Chinese people believe that loud drumbeats awaken the legendary animal and drive away evil spirits.

Millions of spectators are also wowed by the brilliant sparkles and fireworks display, as no Chinese New Year Parade is complete without them. Loud firecrackers are also thrown around the lion and dragon to scare away the ghosts.

In China, the dragon is considered a popular symbol of power, wisdom, and luck. This is why most, if not all, the Chinese believe that they are descendants of the dragon. In the Chinese New Year Parade, the dragon is the biggest attraction. The dragon used for the special event is usually made of silk, bamboo, and other colorful materials. The dragon can measure up to 100 feet. and can be carried by 50 youngsters on poles. It is believed that the longer the dragon, the better the year.

The Chinese New Year Parade is also where East meets West. This is because the Chinese New Year Parade features other non-Chinese traditions as well. Aside from the symbolic lion and golden dragon dance, the parade also features non-Chinese activities such as the beauty pageant. Many people come to see the newly crowned Mrs. Chinatown and her court along with the colorful Chinese-themed floats, marching bands, and other Asian groups that join the parade.

How it all started

During the San Francisco Gold Rush period, more than 50,000 hopefuls came to work in the mines in hopes of a better life. Among them were Chinese immigrants who later developed friendships and ties with everyone else. These Chinese immigrants soon shared their unique culture using the old-fashioned American parade. With the help of other groups from different parts of the city, they were able to promote the rich Chinese culture.

Today, all Chinatowns around the world celebrate Chinese New Year with festivals and parades. San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade is the largest of its kind outside of Asia. The Chinese New Year Parade has come a long way.
