5 feminine details that will not bother you

Femininity, the female form and representations of the beauty of women can be seen everywhere. However, when it comes to interior design, you can overdo the feminine…especially in a home where members of the opposite sex live. Some men may not mind a Victorian-style bedroom, filled with pretty trinkets and floral patterns, but still, for many women, it doesn’t feel right. So how do you go about infusing feminine details without going overboard? It is much simpler than one would think.

Vanity – Create a small nook in a bedroom or bathroom for a vanity or makeup bar, rather than cluttering the sink space with all your toiletries and products. With so many varieties available, you can find a small dresser to suit the style of the room. Vintage or garage sale finds are always an affordable option and can make for a great rehab project. Sand, paint and stain. As with kitchen cabinets and vanities, adding new hardware will bring them up to date quickly. Then have fun putting together pretty trays, jars, and decorations to go with your everyday items. A smart chair or stool completes the space and voila! your things are out of the way and you have your own version of a hair and makeup studio.

Chandelier: A sparkling chandelier with crystals or pops of bright color is a clever way to incorporate feminine allure. Vanities, walk-in closets and porches are a no-compromise space to place them. At the same time, they can give a space a sense of romance, and what better place for romance than in the bedroom? Come to think of it, this may be less convincing than you think.

Throws and Throws – Literally add some feminine colors and textures with throws and throws. While your sheets and covers can stay gender-neutral, a little touch of cable knit, lace ruffles, or rich flowers aren’t quite as eye-catching when done in small doses. Not just for accent decorating, these cozy items also come in handy for relaxing on the couch on lazy afternoons.

Books and magazines: If your passions and hobbies are generally female-oriented, use books or magazines dedicated to women in your home decor. A small gathering or collection of your favorite titles gives you the opportunity to showcase your interests. A stack of old Vogue magazines is much less direct than a framed poster of your favorite cover.

Jewelry Displays – Instead of keeping everything in a box, display your favorite jewelry and accessories. Display space can be found on top of a dresser or on a shelf, where you can use the wall behind the space to hang a few hooks. While you can buy necklace stands, ring stands, and other off-the-shelf pieces, glass bowls and trays are perfect containers for your jewelry. A fabric-filled picture frame in place of a photograph becomes a perfect place to hang earrings, while a pretty mug or vase is the perfect way to stack bracelets.
