How to set up your own Scuttle social bookmarking site in 10 steps

Scuttle’s Social Bookmarking Sites are a great way to save your bookmarks and give your websites great backlinks.

Scuttle is free open source social bookmarking software developed in PHP and MySQL and available for download at sourceforge.net, just search for sourceforge + scuttle in your favorite search engine.

I’ve put together this basic step-by-step guide to quickly set up your new Scuttle social bookmarking site. It is assumed that you are already familiar with buying domain names and setting up hosting and MySQL databases. If you don’t have this experience, you can find the information in various places on the web.

  1. You need a domain to host the site, here are three options, preferably one with a name that suits the purpose, although almost any name will do:
    • The quickest is to use a properly named domain that you already own and is sitting idle or parked waiting for that big new project, unfortunately not everyone has that luck.
    • The next fastest thing is to go to GoDaddy or a similar registrar and buy a suitable domain.
    • The third, and slowest, method is to buy a takedown name with an existing page rank from GoDaddy or similar auction sites. This may be the slowest method, but it gives you an edge when it comes to building backlinks and page rank.
  2. Next you need hosting, if you don’t have hosting yet try my favorites: Dreamhost or Bluehost.
  3. You will now need to set up a database for Scuttle to use, note the database name, and log in with the credentials.
  4. Go to sourceforge and download the latest version of Scuttle to your hard drive.
  5. Unzip all the files.
  6. Use the tables.sql file to set up the Scuttle tables in your new database.
  7. Edit the config.inc.php file with the details of your new database. There are other options that can be set, but for now this is all you need to do.
  8. Now, using an FTP utility like FileZilla, upload all the files and folders you unzipped to your domain root directory.
  9. Set the CHMOD permissions on the /cache subdirectory to 777.
  10. You’re done and ready to rock and roll! Go to the root directory of yournewdomain.com and start entering some of your own bookmarks.

You’ll find that the social bookmarking crowd will find your site by searching for certain unique Scuttle keyword phrases such as “store, share and tag your favorite links” and “inurl:sort=url_asc”.

However, it is much better to speed up the procedure by doing some social bookmarking of your own so that your site will be seen and indexed more quickly. I suggest you submit your new site to Digg, StumbleUpon, and a few other well-known sites.

Dentists become podcasting professionals in 7 easy steps

Do you value community outreach activities? Are you looking for better ways to communicate and educate your patients, your peers, or even the media? If your goal is to get your message to more people, more effectively, and more often, then I’ve got the answer you’ve been looking for…and it’s powerful, fun, and remarkably simple.

Why not use the cutting edge technology of podcasts to spread awareness about the importance of proper oral health? Stick with me now, if you have a mild case of technophobia that’s fine. I’m sure if your practice has the know-how to produce an online newsletter, learning how to integrate podcasting into your outreach activities will be a breeze. And believe me, podcasting is the most innovative mass communication vehicle to emerge in years and it will greatly increase the impact and reach of your message.

Let’s start with the basics. Think of a podcast like a radio show that anyone can download from the Internet. Put another way, a podcast is a digital file that is available to everyone, through a free subscription, over the web. Most podcasts are just audio files (like CDs), but you can also add video content (like DVDs). The main advantage of podcasts over traditional streaming is that users can download these web files to their personal computers, mp3 and/or CD players, and then listen to them whenever they want: in their car, during their morning run, or even on the go. your reception area.

Increasingly, podcasts are recognized as the latest robust communication tool to harness the power of the Internet to quickly reach large numbers of listeners. If your podcast contains valuable information, your listeners will share it with others, quickly spreading your message around the world. Also, because podcasts use RSS technology (actually just syndication), new episodes are delivered to your subscribers without a hitch. Once a listener subscribes to a podcast using iTunes or another similar service, that service automatically downloads new episodes as they’re released, making getting your message across almost instantly and effortlessly.

Putting together a professional-sounding podcast is easier than you think. Since valuable content is paramount, the first step is to prepare interesting topics for your episodes. I suggest you commit to producing bi-monthly episodes, which means you only need six issues per year initially. Once podcasting becomes part of your routine, increase your output to twelve tracks per year. If you’re already producing a print or online newsletter for your patients, the most logical progression would be to reformat some of that content into podcasts. A good way to start is to identify topics you could cover in more detail by talking about them on a podcast instead of writing about them in a newsletter.

For example, the most recent newsletter my dentist emailed me included an article on the dangers of periodontal disease, including information on how it can be linked to the development of heart disease, warning signs to look out for and recommended preventive actions. This is valuable information that interests me and I am grateful to be on this mailing list. But imagine I’ve received this information in the form of an audio podcast, personally recorded by my dentist, urging me to book an appointment for a much-needed checkup. It immediately galvanized me into action! Speaking directly to your audience, in your own voice, and with your own inflection, tone, and spirit, creates a much more intimate connection with your patients. This relationship-building quality is inherent in audio and is part of what makes podcasts so powerful.

If you’re wondering about the widespread acceptance of digital audio files, consider this statistic: On April 9, 2007, Apple announced the sale of its 100 millionth iPod and more than 2.5 billion songs from the iTunes Music Store. Now consider that anyone can download podcasts from this very music store and listen to them through their mp3 player or computer, or burn them to CD…for free! As more and more people (including your patients) “tune in” to audio files across the web, offering them podcasts that complement and build on the content of your existing newsletters gives you another way to remind them of the importance of proper oral health. . and the services it provides.

So what equipment and software do you need to record and produce a podcast? You can become a podcasting pro in just seven easy steps:

1. Verify that your PC is running Windows 2000, XP, or Vista and has the ability to play audio files.

2. Invest in a microphone. Altec Lansing makes decent products, some of which are under $30 and available at the Future Shop. But I recommend splurging a bit to improve audio quality. Blue Microphones makes an excellent USB microphone called the Snowball, which retails for $130 on the Canadian online Apple Store. (This microphone will also work with your Windows PC.)

3. Download and install your recording software. Audacity is an excellent audio editor that can be downloaded from http://audacity.sourceforge.net. And you can’t beat its price point: it’s free.

4. Record and edit your podcast.

5. Partner with an online hosting service to set up a website specifically for your podcast. Liberated Syndication is extremely affordable and gives me everything I need. For $5 a month, I can rent 100 megabytes of storage space a month, which translates to about two hours of audio. This basic hosting account gives me unlimited bandwidth, which means that even if my audience grows exponentially, my monthly cost never increases. LibSyn also provides me with easy-to-use templates for my podcast website and automatically generates and updates my podcast’s RRS feed. Another similar service worth considering is Go Daddy.

6. Upload your new podcast to your hosting service using their simple submission page. Completing the submission page is similar to sending an email. Just type your podcast title (as a subject line), add your episode description (as the body of your email), and include your mp3 file (as an attachment). You can even attach a corresponding image, if you wish. Uploading Your Podcast stores the mp3 file online and makes it available to your audience; they can download your podcast from your newly created podcast website.

7. Promote your podcast! This is as easy as sending an email announcement to your contact list with the URL of your podcast website. But to take advantage of the various online podcast directories, you need to visit their websites and submit the RSS feed of your podcast. You should never pay to be listed on these directories, as the best ones, including iTunes, Podcast Alley, Odeo, and Podcast Pickle, are free.

For Mac users, these steps are even simpler thanks to Garage Band and iWeb. As a Mac user, I’d be happy to pass on some tips to get you started.

Like you, I believe it’s important to stay connected with my customer base, and as a lover of all things tech, I choose to use innovative approaches. I have successfully used the power of podcasting to promote my business on two weekly podcasts with increasing success. And by following these seven easy steps, you too can become a podcasting pro!

Drive sales through brand management

Managing a brand is similar to building a reputation. It grows slowly, gaining the trust and loyalty of its followers until it is established. Brand recognition and consistency in the marketing message build trust, which in turn leads to increased sales. However, consumers are fickle and easily distracted by bigger, bolder marketing messages and glossier packaging, and trust is easily broken.

Just like building a reputation, it is often much faster to lose that reputation compared to the time it took to build the brand. Therefore, it is imperative that companies pay attention to their brand management and business reputation.

Creation of brand awareness campaigns

Every brand is different. It takes a lot of understanding to get the message across. By using creative brand communication strategies, it is easy to capture the attention of your consumer.

A great example of a company that has achieved this is Johnnie Walker. They have built the brand from an emotional campaign. A difficult task, and one that works best when it flows and reinforces a truth of the product. His “Keep Walking” campaign produced good sales growth of 48% over eight years for what was a struggling whiskey producer.

Here are four tips for building an emotion-based campaign similar to Johnnie Walker’s campaign:

  1. Tell a Story: Bring to life the brand idea of ”personal progress” that people want to aspire to.
  2. Make it difficult to copy: In the case of Johnnie Walker, it is almost impossible for another whiskey brand to copy this campaign, as it is based on the brand name and icon.
  3. Consistency is key – use a message consistently. In the case of Johnnie Walker, the brand name is linked to the message and each ad is linked to the packaging or marketing material.
  4. Execution is everything – quality and attention to detail shows, from TV commercials to print advertising and website marketing. All the material is related to the main message and the campaign.

Managing your Reputation

Once you’ve achieved brand recognition, it’s imperative to maintain your reputation. Reputation management can be defined as the process of monitoring the actions of an entity and the opinions of other entities about those actions; report on such actions and opinions; and react to that report by creating a feedback loop.

Understanding this process and being a part of it is the bare minimum that a company should pay attention to in order to maintain a positive reputation. Reputation management has gone mainstream with the advent of pervasive computing.

Five simple tips for managing your reputation include:

  1. Perform a reputation audit: identify all the issues that could affect your company’s reputation
  2. Analyze issues to determine the historical influence, current landscape, and possible future state of that issue.
  3. Carry out change strategy options to address each problem and act on them
  4. Constantly evaluate your landscape
  5. Be present, consistent and communicate your message persuasively

One thought leader who truly understands that consistency and communication are two of the key ingredients to a brand’s success and is able to express this message effortlessly is David Taylor, a world-renowned expert in persuasive brand communication strategies. .

Taylor’s guide to the essential steps in achieving persuasive brand communication can be summarized as follows:

  1. Brand understanding and goal setting
  2. Get the right team
  3. Keep brevity and strict information
  4. Get the most out of production
  5. Brilliant Brand Activation
  6. Development and execution of the campaign.

So how do we drive sales through brand management?

Build bridges between marketing and sales

There are positive, synergistic roles in both marketing and sales, and if each party accepts the role assumed by their counterparts, the organization will thrive. Traditionally, it was quite difficult to identify the criteria to build the bridge between marketing and sales.

Traditionally, a company would resort to the following five strategies:

  1. Take a new approach to lead development
  2. Determine the piping requirements.
  3. Synchronize marketing communications channel upload activities with sales force requirements
  4. Feed the sales pipeline with precision
  5. Practice aggressive marketing to build the relationship.

Marketing and sales have traditionally been kept as two separate concepts with marketing paving the way, while sales closing the deal. With the advent of pervasive computing, the gap is rapidly narrowing. Social networks are the key to this result in the online approach.

With social media spaces becoming more popular, marketers and entrepreneurs around the world are using LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sites to discover new markets, meet prospects directly, and forge profitable new business relationships. No lead generation, branding, or cold calling required. In a sense, many sellers are becoming their own sellers.

The roles could be defined as follows: The sales role in social media is to initiate and develop key relationships. The role of social media marketing is to help marketers plan, execute, and measure their efforts.

Regardless of the approach, be it online or traditional, effective brand communication remains key to all strategies.

Create easy educational videos with LMS online video tool

Why are Web 2.0 technologies a great complement to LMS online courses? Because tools like social media and video sharing sites allow for innovative ways for students to collaborate; because that’s where students are already spending their time; and because using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom is simply unavoidable. (And why is it inevitable? Because it’s smart.)

According to Nielsen’s user habits survey, social networking websites are more popular than email. In the UK, one in six minutes of the average Internet user is spent on a social site, according to the report.

If social media is such a fundamental part of most people’s online experience, why shouldn’t it be a part of our 21st century education?

YouTube is a site students can visit to see skateboarders doing tricks or punk bands performing live, but why shouldn’t they be allowed to create their own learning content using these same beloved sites?

YouTube is one aspect of the Web 2.0 educational revolution. But while YouTube has great potential, is it appropriate in a classroom setting?

Although YouTube claims to have a zero-tolerance policy on videos that glorify violence and makes serious efforts to remove them, it also admits that there’s really no way to filter these videos or prevent them from being uploaded. Ultimately, YouTube relies on its viewers to flag questionable material.

For educators who are wary of incorporating Web 2.0 technologies like YouTube into their learning systems, there is TeacherTube.

With TeacherTube, students can upload, tag and share videos; basically everything that is available on YouTube. Users can also browse videos uploaded by members and find, join or create video groups to connect with other educators.

Students themselves can greatly enjoy and benefit from the experience of creating a video project.

Studies find that when students are allowed to take knowledge and create something with it, their understanding of the information is much deeper than if they simply absorbed the material.

An LMS is a tool that offers great potential for student projects, such as video creation. Many LMS have easy-to-use video creation tools that can be used to create and distribute learning content in the form of videos.

Today, camera equipment is less expensive and more accessible. Using an LMS, students can create and upload their own videos to share their interpretation and creative expression of the learning content.

How to Plan a Fun Outdoor Patio Party

If you have a patio, you have all the ingredients for a fun outdoor setting. You can throw a fabulous patio party with just a few chairs, a couple of folding tables (Source: Terra Patio), and a few of the following ideas. If you like to entertain, your patio can provide the perfect setting for gathering with family and friends.

food

If you’re having a backyard party, it makes sense to cook outside so you still feel included in the party. You can use your grill to make your main course and side dishes. Whether you’re serving cheeseburgers and corn on the cob or salmon fillets with potato wedges, you can grill a wide variety of tasty meals for your friends. You can also prepare salads and appetizers in advance so you don’t have to cook all the time. Also, it’s always a good idea to pack plenty of snacks like chips, pretzels, and popcorn for your hungry guests to munch on.

to drink

You don’t have to have a fancy outdoor bar to create a cocktail and beverage table. You can set up an outdoor table or counter with a row of drink selections and a large cooler of ice. Make sure you have plenty of cups and glasses on hand. Keep soft drinks and bottled water in a separate cooler. Plus, ice buckets keep “wine and other beverages cold and ready.” (Source: StyleatHome, Perfect Patio Party) Depending on how many guests you have, you may want to rent a keg for your backyard party.

Turning on

From solar powered patio light strings to hanging candle lanterns, you can enhance your backyard entertaining at night. You can also place citronella candles on your tables to give light and scare away mosquitoes. Additionally, citronella torches are ideal for placing just outside your patio. If your town allows it, you could even enhance your backyard with a fire pit. It provides plenty of additional light and makes a great focal point for evening entertainment.

Music

While you don’t want the music so loud that it drowns out conversation, it can certainly boost the party spirit on your patio. By having great party music ready, you’ll be able to provide an instant mood when your guests arrive. If you don’t know everyone’s taste in music, be sure to play a variety of music genres.

Games

If your yard has room for a volleyball net or bag toss game, you’ll find that your guests will enjoy some friendly competition. If they prefer a more relaxed game, keep a deck or two of cards handy to play around the patio table. If you are expecting young guests, you can set up some board games that they can enjoy playing outside.

A backyard party is a great way to spend time with family and friends during the warm seasons. As long as you have seats and a couple of tables on the patio, you can easily accommodate your guests and throw a lovely party for everyone to enjoy.

Even celebrities do calorie restriction

The phrase “calorie restriction diet” is a bit of a hard sell. It’s not the most appealing name because the restriction doesn’t sound like fun.

But I see that celebrities are doing caloric restriction. Kym Douglas, the author of The Black Book of Hollywood Secrets, says, “The biggest secret I learned from celebrities is that they don’t eat ‘diet food.’ They do eat, but not a lot.

“I remember sitting down for breakfast with Elizabeth Hurley and being surprised that she ate real bacon with the eggs, not turkey or tofu. So that’s fine. But I’m not eating fake bacon.”

Now, I don’t usually turn to celebrities for inspiration and I hate the size zero mentality that is so ingrained in Hollywood. However, I believe that caloric restriction is the most effective way to lose weight. For fun, I’m going to list some of the items on the A to Z list of Hollywood’s Best Diet Tips:

A FOR THE ASPARAGUS: Celebrities make a living on this because it’s a natural diuretic and eliminates bloating.

B TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH: A nutritionist advised her famous young client that the best way to keep her mother at 15 percent body fat was to use a toothbrush after every meal. And a madness began. Using a toothbrush signals your brain that you are full.

…and BENEFIT: Sprinkle it on your salad or in your coffee because it helps move food through your system faster.

C FOR COOKIE: Celebrities like singer Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson follow the Cookie Diet. In other words, “they eat a cookie, they skip a meal.” They eat a healthy dinner of several hundred calories and only eat calories or cookies at other meals. They lose weight because it is based on caloric restriction.

…and CINNAMON: Celebrities sprinkle it in their tea because it can supposedly lower cholesterol and blood sugar.

E FOR EPSOM SALTS: The salts draw fluids out of your body. Heidi Klum and other stars wear them before filming and photo shoots.

I FOR ICE LOLLIES: Oprah Winfrey likes frozen fruit bars because they take a long time to eat and also satisfy her sweet tooth.

L FOR LICORICE: Have a piece of licorice or strong breath mint when you’re hungry. Numbs the taste buds.

M FOR MATCHA GREEN TEA: One cup of matcha green tea is equal to 8-10 cups of regular green tea. This increases metabolism and is an appetite suppressant.

P FOR PRUNES: Hollywood Nutritionists suggest including four chopped prunes with the ground beef when cooking a hamburger. It cuts the fat by 40 percent and the plums are flavorless so you won’t even know they’re there.

Q FOR A QUICK SUGAR FIX: A Los Angeles bun shop is particularly popular with Hollywood celebrities. Many of them ask for a small paper cup filled with frosting instead of a large cinnamon roll. That way they satisfy their sweet tooth without eating the calories.

S FOR SUSHI: Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie love sushi. This seaweed is loaded with vitamins, has few calories, and can lower cholesterol.

V FOR VEGANISM: Alicia Silverstone says going vegan is the key to lasting weight loss: “I swear it’s so easy. You don’t have to be in a diet mentality if you eat healthy plant-based foods.”

W FOR WEDGE SHOES: According to Hollywood stylists, the shoe that makes you look thinner. Cameron Diaz, Jessica Simpson, and Gwen Stefani all wear wedges for that reason. Stylists love them for covers as they make the featured actress look taller and slimmer.

That’s only a partial list, but you get the idea. These are tips that even real people like you and me can use. I’m making a mental note to try the frosting tip at some point. However, I think I’ll pass on the wedges.

Top Beauty Tips: Hair Care For Anyone With Any Hair Type

You may think that hair care is a difficult thing to do, but that is not the case. Taking care of your hair the right way depends on knowing the right way to treat it. In the following article on the best beauty tips for hair care, you will find tips that will help you keep your hair in top shape.

Every time you use heat on your hair you are damaging it, and this applies to blow-drying it. The best way to do this is to use the cool shot setting and keep the dryer moving, so it doesn’t stay in one spot for more than a few seconds. Use your fingers to untangle any knots, then gently dry your hair before brushing.

Beautiful hair depends on a healthy diet. Just like any other part of your body, your hair requires proper nutrition to grow. A nutrient deficiency could lead to brittle, weak and unattractive hair. You may even lose hair if you have a severe enough deficiency. Make sure you eat well to have the best hair possible. Having a diet of healthy foods is perhaps one of the most important beauty tips that we share in this article.

MORE BEST BEAUTY TIPS! You should let your hair air dry or use a towel instead of heat styling. The heat from hair dryers can damage hair.

Avoid going to the salon to get a copy of your friend’s hairstyle just because it looks good on her. You could end up with a high-maintenance hairstyle or a cut that doesn’t look good on your face. This can lead to you not sticking with your hair care routine. Talk to your stylist to determine the best possible cut for you.

Understand that everyone’s hair changes as they age. Your hair may become drier, brittle, or grayer. If you’re very lucky, you could experience a texture transformation, from curly to straight, or vice versa. If these changes worry you, see a doctor.

Dry hair should be deeply conditioned. If you have problems with brittle and dry hair, you can make use of a conditioning treatment at home. Just dampen your clean hair. Then apply a good amount of this thick conditioner while massaging it thoroughly through the hair. Then, place a plastic cap over your head and let the conditioner soak into your locks for about 30 minutes. Wash and rinse your hair completely to get more moisture in your hair.

MORE BEST BEAUTY TIPS! You should wait up to two days after coloring your hair to wash it. This hair can be damaged when you do that and it can also wash out the color directly.

Another one of our best beauty tips is to be careful about applying gels, hairsprays, or other hair care products directly to the scalp. Your scalp and hairline may end up with clogged pores and breakouts if you apply the products to your scalp. Avoid these unpleasant and uncomfortable effects by limiting product application to your hair only.

If you have limited time to make your hair look fancy, it’s a good idea to use clips, jaw clips, or other hair accessories. You can wear hair clips in many different ways in just a few minutes. To tame unruly bangs or curls, use one or two bobby pins.

Perhaps this is the most interesting of our best beauty tips. Be sure to sleep on silk or satin pillowcases. Cotton fabric can tear when strands of hair get caught. Silk or satin will allow your hair to glide across the pillow without snagging. If you don’t do this, you can also use a hair tie to tie your hair up.

MORE BEST BEAUTY TIPS! Wash your hair twice a week if it is curly. Curly hair needs natural oils to shine and look healthy, and too much shampoo will strip the oil and create a dull look.

Do you like soft and shiny hair? You can do it like this with your own mix. This formula only has a single ingredient. Just mix half an egg white into your scalp for 5 minutes. Once you are done, wash the egg with shampoo. You’ll start looking better in no time.

There are many things that can cause dandruff. Poor diet, stress, and skin conditions can cause a dry, itchy, and flaky scalp. That seems counterintuitive, but it’s true. The best thing to do is to get a mild shampoo or one that is made for dandruff.

If you have curly hair, you should avoid washing it more than twice a week. You should also use a detangler daily, while your hair is wet. To keep frizz down, do not use a blow dryer.

MORE BEST BEAUTY TIPS! In general, living healthy will help your hair stay healthy. Try to stay away from stress and smoking, get some exercise and stay hydrated for the best hair.

If you have a healthy body, you will probably have healthy hair. Your hair should be cared for from the inside out by eating a nutritious and healthy diet, as well as drinking plenty of water. Fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beneficial fats, and lean protein all contribute to happy, healthy hair.

Once you have read these best beauty tips, you will understand that it is not as difficult as you imagined to take care of your hair properly. We hope you’ve learned enough here to prepare yourself to get your hair back in shape. A little effort will go a long way towards healthy, beautiful hair, which is an important part of learning to be beautiful!
