Makita LS1013 Review – Read This Before You Buy the Makita LS1013 Compound Miter Saw

The Makita LS1013 is a dual sliding compound miter saw that packs a lot of power into a compact machine. With a double horizontal rail system, both self-cleaning and sliding on linear ball bearings, the saw is incredibly stable. Because the bevel rotates forty-five degrees in each direction, there is a wide range of cutting clearance and great versatility in what cuts can be made.

The vertical grip design and thumb activated safety switch and paddle trigger make the Makita LS1013 very easy and comfortable to use. Although not a horizontal D-handle, which is a bit more ergonomic, the handle allows for right- or left-handed use of the saw and the trigger can be pulled at any time regardless of which way you are gripping the handle.

As far as sawing capacity goes, the Makita LS1013 has the ability to crosscut a 2×12 at 90 degrees, but the big feature comes in its depth capability. Most saws can’t cut a piece of 4×4 stock, but this one can. That’s incredibly useful if you’re working with something like a platform or cabinet. Due to the huge table on this saw, you will have the ability to make wide crosscuts, another feature that is very useful. The Makita LS1013 bevels 52 degrees right and 47 degrees left with 9 positive stops on the bevel to allow easy access to the most frequently used miters, and it even has a miter lock with a screw handle.

It is imperative that the saw also consider safety, which is exactly what the Makita LS1013 does. There is a soft start and electric brake to ensure you know how to work the saw quickly and easily. The pivot fence allows you to support large stock or flip it back for typical cuts, and there’s a work clamp so you have the ability to make precise cuts in small stock without risking your finger being cut by the blade. There’s a depth stop mechanism to keep you ready if you’re forced to make some quick cuts while you’re working, and a safety button release to pull out and lock the saw when not in use while you’re at home.
