Tips for dealing with a spouse who always takes your children’s side

An extended family is quite a test and many adjustments would need to be made. Special care is needed with stepchildren to prevent offenses, which can make living together a very difficult situation.

Dealing with stepchildren is difficult on its own, and if your parents always take your side, things can really get out of hand. I think the reason one parent sides with the kids is because the other parent isn’t around. He might feel responsible for it in some way or he might feel powerless to prevent the absence of the other Parent, as in a case of death, so he might indulge the Child or Children too much. No matter what his reason is, it’s still not a reason for him to neglect us.

I am in an extended family and this was a problem in my house. My Husband would take his Sons side over me. He said it wasn’t true, but I could see that it was and it really caused some trouble between us. At one point I was thinking about getting a divorce because I wasn’t willing to stay in a relationship where the kids were in charge. Then the Lord spoke to me and told me to stand firm.

There is an order by which a relationship must go. God must be first, then the Husband or Wife, and then the Children. No child should precede the spouse. If so, there will surely be tension in the marriage.

As I said, the Lord told me to stand firm. I started out defending myself as a wife. I prepared for a disagreement by focusing on what was right. I talked to my husband calmly and pointed out the areas where he had taken his children’s side over mine. At first everything went well, however, this is a process and it takes time to undo, especially when a habit has been formed. Therefore, every time she saw it happen again, she would bring it to his attention. It didn’t always go well for me, but I didn’t back down because I had the word of God sustaining me.

It’s easy to resent Kids in situations like this, but it’s not the right thing to do. I continued to treat them well and with respect to maintain a good relationship with them, but also let them know and show them that I was in charge because I am an adult.

My husband is a professional truck driver and is often away from home, which means the kids and I were home. At first they thought they wouldn’t have to do what I asked but I stuck with them. I would like to say what I said, if I promise to do something for them, I will do it. I spoke to them respectfully and told them the right thing. If they were wrong, she would let them know, and above all, she wasn’t afraid of them or what they would say to her father. They soon got my message about who was in charge and are now less likely to go over my head with their father.

My husband has sided with his children over me, but when I discuss it with him it is in private. I don’t want the Children to use it to his advantage. In some cases, children will not like their stepfather and if they know that their father will always take their side, they will surely use it to hurt the stepfather. That is why the discussion must be private.

We must give our Husband the opportunity to change things with his Children. We should not expect it to happen overnight because there is a link between them. You need time to find a way to deal with them. It shouldn’t be too long because that would mean that he’s not trying to change things, but if we see little things happening that haven’t happened before, that’s an indication that he’s trying to figure it out. One important thing to look for is these simple little words; let me talk to you first. That indicates that our Spouse cares about us and he doesn’t just agree to what he wants without asking for our opinion.

This process can take a while, but the main thing is to remember that we are the Spouse and we are ahead of the Children. If we need to assert ourselves, do so because it will make the relationship that much better.

YouTube views: how to get more

Views are important. The more you get, the more you get. Not only do people flock to what’s popular, but the more views you get, the higher your video will rise in YouTube, Yahoo, and Google search results.

software bots: Stay away from these. They are banned by YouTube and if you are caught your video and channel will be removed immediately. Software bots are what they seem; they use an automated bot to repeatedly hit your video and increase YouTube views. And it should be noted that YouTube blocked most of the available bots a few months ago.

Firefox Plugin Update: There are plugins you can use that refresh your browser every few seconds. The problem is that views will be logged to an IP address and YouTube will ban your video, possibly your account. Use them at your own risk.

Creating Great Videos: This is obvious, but even a good video is not a guarantee of getting many views. With thirty thousand HOURS of videos uploaded daily to YouTube, a good video is no longer a sure sign of success.

Being active: This works fine. Comment, subscribe, participate in the YouTube community and you will attract more YouTube views, subscribers and comments. The downside of this method is that it requires a lot of work. You need to spend at least a couple of hours a day. Make sure you don’t spam other people’s videos with spam comments. Make your comments relevant to the video and genuine.

Buy YouTube Views: Yes, you can buy YouTube views. These are real, 100% genuine viewers who will watch your video. It doesn’t violate YouTube’s Terms of Service because the traffic is genuine. This is the fastest way to get to the top. But apart from increasing your views, it is also important to buy video comments, likes and favorites.

How to make your product better and cheaper at the same time

If you’re in the sales game, then you know you need a great product for your business to succeed. Without a solid product, it is impossible to build that desired word of mouth that every company needs to survive. But companies should also strive to improve their products. Consumers evolve, as do products, but that can be difficult if you’re not prepared to handle the added costs. But what if someone told you that it’s possible to make your product better and cheaper at the same time? Would you believe them, or would you call them crazy? The good news is that you can. Just follow these steps to make sure it happens:

1. Develop the best product you can at the time.

If you can build a strong product from scratch, then it’s easy to get the things you need to go back to the lab and experiment with improvements: customer feedback. Your customers, once they actually use your product, will be able to tell you what works and what doesn’t. Every customer knows that companies and products are not perfect. It is how a company responds to these imperfections that sets it apart from the rest of the competition. Are you the type that will listen to your customers or keep banging your head against the proverbial wall?

2. Incorporate customer suggestions.

You need to assess your target market thoroughly before you start selling to them. Once you know who they are, you’ll also know that you can trust their opinions. While a person may have an unreasonable complaint that defeats the purpose behind the product, if the same comment starts coming back multiple times, he may want to start considering it in a second generation of the product. If customers know you listen to them, they’re more likely to try your next-gen model and tell their friends about you.

3. Mass production.

With customer satisfaction comes bargaining power when it comes to mass production. The more of your product you can produce, the cheaper the costs. And if you have a market that is already willing to back you up with their purchases and testimonials, then it’s easier to negotiate with manufacturers about future production of your product.

With all of these factors in place, it is possible to not only get a better price, but also create a better product. Don’t try to do everything at once. It will not work. Instead, do your best, listen to your customers, and then use their feedback to find the right manufacturing company for mass production.

Benefits of clothing software and the value of barcodes in a POS

An apparel software is a solution used by any retail business dealing with apparel. It’s used in:

  1. supermarkets
  2. small retail stores
  3. Medium Retail Stores
  4. clothing store chain
  5. Ready-made garments showrooms
  6. Fabric and textile stores

In essence, any business that works with clothing in any way can employ clothing software. No matter the size of the company: from a small local store to an international brand, everyone can benefit from the POS system. Software for clothing stores helps in:

  1. Manage the retail operation with precision
  2. Focus on the key aspects of the business.
  3. Release employment to complete daily mundane tasks

What are the characteristics of a clothing store software?

Think of your garment management solution as a storage place for all the crucial data for each inventory item. It classifies each item based on different classifications, such as price, color, design, and size. It also produces a unique barcode for each garment. As a result of these data, POS software for a clothing store comes with the following features:

  1. Faster sales and payment process
  2. Smarter inventory
  3. Own purchasing management
  4. Best loyalty programs
  5. Discount and promotion techniques.
  6. maintenance of financial accounts
  7. Analysis and reports

How does the software help the clothing store?

A garment software system can:

  1. Increase sales
  2. liquidate shares
  3. Ensuring better customer service
  4. Balance payable with accounts receivable
  5. Pinpoint trends and strategize for a stronger sale

Even more advanced garment software can be integrated with add-on services like alterations and tailoring that further enhance customer satisfaction. But the most practical and useful part of the system is the barcode. For example, using a handheld device, you can capture the barcode on each garment and then update the inventory balance instead of manually checking each piece.

What is a barcode?

A series of lines printed on paper that is attached to a garment is called a barcode. The lines in it are of alternating widths. To the naked eye, all barcodes look similar. Actually, each line of the code is a character that only the barcode scanner can read and understand.

When scanning a barcode, light sensors convert the tracks into electrical signals. The barcode reader (software) decodes the electronic signals and converts them into the characters represented by the bars. Barcode creation with the software is very affordable, as is printing, and any clothing company can have the budget for it.

Why integrate the barcode with the garment POS system?

To use the barcode scanner productively in a clothing store, integration with management software is essential. When the barcode scanner is supported by the POS system, it scans each item during the checkout process. The information thus collected can be used to maintain inventory.

How is a POS installed with Barcode Inventory advantageous for the store?

When an apparel company merges a barcode system with its management software, it gains access to the following benefits.

  • When price and inventory management is done manually, the process takes hours, if not days. Teaching it to a new employee is even more arduous. But when a barcode scanner connected with inventory software is installed in the clothing store, the same task can be accomplished quickly. In addition, the time required to train a new worker is drastically reduced.
  • A clothing store has the same product available in different sizes or colors. It’s just one of the ways that managing inventory in an apparel business becomes painstaking. The variation in prices as the seasons change adds to the complexity. It means that when employees perform stock keeping, the chances of an error occurring are very likely. The very nature of the products sold makes them so. A barcode system that automatically transfers all information to connected POS software eliminates this chance for errors to occur.
  • The same item in a clothing store goes through many price changes; it’s part of the business. Continuously and manually updating that change is not a very appealing or fast task. Barcodes make it simpler. A new barcode can be placed on the garment and the new pricing (or inventory) information can be transferred through the garment store management software.
  • The tracking of each garment in each store is facilitated with the barcode. Eliminate the overhead associated with inaccurate SKU tracking.
  • To run a successful business, payment time should be as short as possible. Long waiting times make customers feel dissatisfied. When barcodes are integrated with the POS, a single scan transfers the following data:
  1. Prices
  2. discounts
  3. Size
  4. SKU number

It means that the time needed to process sales is greatly reduced. Entering the same date one by one would have made the payment time much longer.

  • It’s not just the check-out that’s faster; any other process is faster like decision making. When you have accurate data at your fingertips at all times, judgments like which garment to discount and which to promote can be made in a jiffy. Save valuable resources such as effort, money and time.

Chinese Lion Dance Facts and Information

In China, a lion is considered a guardian creature. The Chinese use these powerful beasts for protection and to ward off harmful and evil spirits. The lion dance is the most popular folk dance in China. Without going through the Kai Guang ceremony, a new lion should not be used in the lion dance tradition. Kai Guang or Dian Jing means tapping or opening the eyes. This is a ceremony where a special chosen person is assigned to splash the eyes of the lion. This ceremony is performed to give life and tame the new lion.

Chinese shops often have a Buddhist, Taoist, or ancestral altar or shrine. In front of this altar, the new lion is placed. The drum, cymbals and gong are played steadily and softly in the background. The designated person will sprinkle the eyes with cinnabar. In this practice, some schools also use the blood of a live rooster. The first thing we will score is the mirror of the front part of the lion’s head and followed by the eyes, the mouth, the ears and the rest of the lion. After this, the lion’s senses are said to be ‘awakened’.

The lion slowly wakes up, his eyes moving and blinking. Then the ears blink, the mouth opens and the body moves. When the lion is brought to life, the gong, cymbals and drum grow louder and firecrackers are set off outside the restaurant or shop. The new lion will usually always start with three bows; left, right and then center. The lion will face the altar and bow three times, then continue with the traditional lion dance routine.

Originating in China a thousand years ago, the lion dance is classified into two main styles, southern and northern. The lion of the north is usually red, yellow and orange in color, furry in appearance, with a golden head and is used as entertainment for the imperial court, while the dance of the south is usually performed as a special ceremony to exorcise evil spirits, as well as to invoke luck. gold fortune Southern lions are available in a wide variety of colors and often have a distinctive head and large eyes, with a bagua-like mirror on their forehead.

Discover affiliate marketing niches and offers

When I started working online in 2013, I discovered that affiliate marketing (AM) was the safest way to start an online business. I immersed myself in it and after months of “hard work” I wondered why it wasn’t going anywhere. What were others doing that I wasn’t? Unbeknownst to me, successful affiliate marketers (AMers) chose niches because internet marketing is too big a market for a newbie to succeed.

This post will help you do exactly that.

#1: What really is a niche?

A niche is actually a small segment of a market where people interested in something are willing to part with the amount of money needed to acquire it. Therefore, when searching for a particular niche, make sure that there are actually search terms that people are using when searching for your particular niche information so that you can be listed in the top 10 search engine results pages.

#2: What is really the difference between a market and a niche market concept?

If we take a main category like AM and go through the titles, we can easily discover a market level idea like affiliate programs.

To see if there is really money to be made in this market, do a Google search to try and find advertisers. If you found ads, then the affiliate program (AP) is actually an interesting market.

So if you limit it to the two details of where people actually spend funds and where there are search words that people actually use when looking for AP information, then use Google AdWords KeywordToolExternal and put it in affiliate programs as well. for general suggestions on possible niches. If you need additional programs, use the AdWords.Google tool, which can easily provide you with up to 800, instead of the 100 keywords provided by the previous one.

Enter (AP) in the search engine window at the top left of the webpage, and then click search.

Get a list of at least 10-20 AP-associated search terms that show a reasonable number of searches per month, but without a lot of competition.

This can also easily give you a number of profitable search phrases to use on your site as categories, in your content and also in your marketing campaigns.

Discover profitable keyword phrases

Volume: is the average number of searches per month over the last 12 months.

Comp: The higher this number, the more organic competition for the keyword.

IAAT: A count of web pages where the keyword appears in both the title tag and the text of a backlink.

#3: Pick your niche.

Statista determines that the number of bloggers in the US alone will increase to 31.7 million by 2020. If you’re starting to build a blog anywhere on the planet today, you’re clearly dealing with a large number. more competition

The only way for you to have the best chance of success is to niche.

You need to focus on a specific category. “Food” is actually a huge category, but “grilled food” is small enough to manage.

Tweaked themes like these can help you develop a more focused audience and possibly help you rank higher in search engines as well.

Si Quan Ong did exactly that when he created his first website limiting himself to just breakdancing instead of discussing “dance” or even “hip hop”. He stated that he really understood next to nothing about SEO at the time, yet he was able to rank for a handful of key terms and produce ~3,000 organic visits each month.

#4: Choosing the right niche is really imperative.

The information in #2 above demonstrates that there are actually numerous niche markets for you to choose from. Taking the one you are really passionate about is actually the most effective niche market for you. Even if you work for months without getting any kind of results, it will definitely keep you going as a result of your great enthusiasm for it.

#5: There are definitely consequences for selecting the wrong niche market.

Actually, it is very likely that you will select the right niche if you follow the above actions. But in case you pick the wrong one, you can do the right thing for 12 months (which should be your long-term goal for success) and still have nothing to show for it.

#6: Monetization settings.

Having selected your specific niche, you now need to study its ability to make money. Here are some of them:.

Create your own product – Your own product can be an e-book, a series of training videos, or a paper book.

AM: You can join any network or affiliate program for free. For AM of digital products, you can sign up with ClickBank, the largest AM network. As for AM of physical products, we recommend an AM program like Amazon affiliate program etc. As for other affiliate programs, search for your “niche name” and sign up for the ones you like. You can also easily register on eBay.com etc. Know that Amazon.com and eBay.com have everything that any type of niche market can offer.

The printer adds: There are many out there. The most popular ones are actually Google Adsense and Mediavine.

#7: Get out of any niche you can’t monetize.

If you look at the above and can’t figure out any way to actually monetize your chosen niche, then it’s not a good choice you’ve made. Well, if something isn’t good for you, you know what to do with it, right? You turn your back on him. Then you look for another.

#8: There’s actually a lot of competition in AM but there’s enough room for everyone.

One more ambivalence, one could say.

Yes, the competition in the AM industry is really fierce, but that shouldn’t scare you by any means.

Every successful AM professional you see around or hear about has that experience. If they had let them terrorize them years ago, they definitely would not have existed as examples for us to learn from.

The solution to competition simply depends on finding a particular niche that necessarily belongs to a much larger market where you can really make money with little or no competition.

#9: Is AM a scam?

No, AM as such is certainly not a scam. You’ll no doubt get into one faster than you can get the crap out of your shiny new footwear if you’re spending your hard-earned money as well as your precious time looking for get-rich-quick schemes.

#10: Decide which platform to use.

AM could take place on any type of platform where the promoter can send information to a consumer. Also social networks.

The ideal area to develop a target market and increase your sales is actually through a blog site or even a YouTube channel.

There you have it, the 10 ways novice marketers can pick niches for success.

Health Fitness

prison cell training

Have you ever noticed that many convicted felons go into prison as skinny punks but come out with 20-40 pounds of new muscle?

Have you ever wondered how that is possible?

A client of mine recently asked me if I thought it was possible to build muscle, burn fat, and get a lean, muscular physique without lifting weights.

While he thought about it a bit… he raised the stakes. He wanted to know if anyone could build a better body while he was locked in a ten by ten prison cell.

I thought about it some more… and then I started to do some research. After completing my research, I told him that I believed it was possible to build muscle even within the confines of a ten by ten prison cell.

This is why:

Point #1: Your muscles are stupid. In order to grow, your muscles must be under tension. If you lift a dumbbell, that puts stress on your biceps and back muscles.

But… if you do a pull-up… that also puts a strain on your back and biceps. Here’s the catch: your muscles don’t know the difference between the tension generated by pull-ups and dumbbell curls.

The important thing is that your muscles are being worked against resistance in each case. So lifting weights can be a convenient way to exercise muscles under tension… but it’s definitely not the only way to exercise muscles.

Point #2: In the late 1980s, research used electromagnetic imaging to discover which exercises caused the greatest degree of muscle fiber activation. The reason is that the more muscle fibers that were activated, the better the exercise was for building muscle and strength.

The researchers found that the most effective exercises were those in which the hands or feet remained steady and the body moved.

Exercises in which the body remained stationary and the hands or feet moved were decidedly less effective.

Here’s an example: When you bench press, your body stays still and your hands move up and down through space.

But when you do a pushup, your hands remain stationary and your body moves up and down through space.

How about another example? When you do a seated leg extension, your body remains stationary and your feet move up and down. But when you squat, your feet remain stationary and your body moves up and down through space.

So the pushup activates more muscle fiber than the bench press…and a squat recruits more muscle fiber than a leg extension.

This means that many bodyweight exercises actually require a higher degree of muscle fiber activation than many common weightlifting exercises.

In short, bodyweight exercises may actually be more effective for building muscle and strength.

So… even if you’re stuck in a tiny prison cell, you can still build muscle and strength with bodyweight exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats.

Of course, to build extreme amounts of muscle, you need to go beyond the basic exercises and start using some of the more advanced exercises. These include the one-arm push-up, the janda sit-up, dips, and variations on the pull-up.

But in the end, I see no reason why you couldn’t build a spectacularly muscular physique within the tiny confines of a ten by ten prison cell.

Become a real estate expert in Hawaii in ten minutes

Brief history

Hawaii is the only state in the Union that maintains a central location for all real estate deeds. All other states delegate this responsibility to the county level. Hawaii’s unique form of registration dates back to the original land tenure system of the Kingdom of Hawaii. All the land was owned by the King, but was available to everyone else. The concept of private property did not exist.

That changed with the Great Mahele. Westerners pressured the Hawaiian government to adopt a private system of land ownership. Bowing to that pressure, between 1845 and 1848 King Kamehameha III divided the land between the Kingdom, high-ranking chiefs, and the territorial government. This was called the Ka Mahele now known as the Great Mahele. Ka Mahele translated is “the division”.

There are compelling arguments that the native Hawaiians did not get their fair share of the Great Mahele. Periodically, groups or individuals defending the rights of Native Hawaiians challenge the established land ownership system. These challenges create rumors and innuendo that lead to confusion and uncertainty.

Due to the confusion that determines land ownership and similar names, the Land Court was established in 1903. The availability of title insurance has dramatically reduced the need for judicial determination and registration with the Land Court.

Hawaii Recording System

Hawaii has three methods for changing title to real estate. The Regular System gives “notice” of title change. Deeds registered in the Land Court system are guaranteed by the State of Hawaii. Documents registered in both systems are called Dual System Registration.

property types

Hawaiian Real Estate is freehold ownership, either as a leasing interest or as a timeshare.

Shared time

Timeshares are fractional vacation ownership interests in a resort. Fractional interest is typically the right to occupy a one or two-bedroom unit for one week, each year. A unit could have 52 owners. Buyers are given the property as “Timeshare Estate” or as “Timeshare Use”. Ownership of the timeshare property is granted by deed and is actual ownership of real estate. Ownership of timeshare use is granted by contract and the owner has a license or membership interest in the timeshare resort. The use of the timeshare is not an ownership in real property.

leases

The lease interest is the right to use the land for a specified number of years, usually 55 to 75 years. The person who owns the lease must return the land to the actual owner of the land at the end of the lease. The tenant owns the improvements on the land, but not the land itself.

Ownership in a cooperative or multi-family unit is often acquired through a leasing interest. Leasing interests are conveyed through an apartment lease. Apartment lease goes by many names: apartment lease, apartment lease and land lease, condominium transfer document, apartment deed and land lease or home lease.

Single Fee

Real estate held in fee simple is the most common form of ownership and what a person usually thinks of what it means to own real estate. The person owns the entire land and the entire building. In the past, property transfers had the words “simple fee”. Simple Fee meant that the new owner’s use of the land and buildings was unrestricted of any kind. Today, transfers are made subject to the restrictions of an integrated society, such as zoning restrictions and access by utilities, local governments and subsurface mineral rights holders.

Typical fee simple properties are single family homes and condominiums. Single family homes are what you expect, the land and the house are jointly owned by a single owner. Condominiums are multiple dwellings owned by multiple owners with a “common area” owned and shared by all. The common areas are; sidewalks, parking lots, swimming pools, barbecue areas, laundry facilities, and recreational areas.

Today, fee simple grants are conveyed with a guarantee deed or a quitclaim deed. A person transferring ownership with a deed of guarantee at a minimum guarantees that he or she is the actual owner and conveys clear title. Warranty deeds are accompanied by title insurance. Warranty deeds are used in bona fide sales.

Quit deeds are transfers of ownership without guarantees. The grantor basically conveys whatever property he or she may have. Abandonment claims are essentially the owner moving away from the property. The new owner takes the property “as is”. Transfers from one spouse to another are often claimed by waiver.

Time shares are often conveyed with a quitclaim deed. There is limited tradability for time stocks, so there is no real selling opportunity. To avoid paying annual maintenance fees, the owner gives the property away.

ohana housing

A final type of property is the Ohana Dwelling or Grandma’s Cottage. This is a separate building on the property from the main house. It is usually much smaller and self-contained. It can be rented or occupied by a relative, such as the grandmother.

The danger of a defeated mentality

When you read the title, did you feel a sense of urgency? I did as she was writing it. Why did I feel a sense of urgency? Because too many people are letting their dreams die due to a defeated mindset. If you are wondering what a defeated mentality is. A defeated mentality is one that has given up!

Something has happened somewhere along the way that has made the person throw in the towel and accept the fact that they will never achieve their goals or dreams. Now you may be thinking to yourself, what’s so dangerous about that? Well, it may not be dangerous when it comes to anything physically related, but what about mentally, emotionally, and spiritually?

I have listed 8 danger signs of a defeated mindset:

1. The individual had a dream while growing up. But through the years he has given up eventually, because he feels he waited too long.

2. The person uses self-sabotage to destroy their own dreams; because they have convinced themselves that they do not deserve to achieve their dreams for one reason or another.

3. The individual has lost the inner fire he needs to make his dreams come true.

4. When the person is in his secret place he visualizes his ideal life, but he does not take the steps to make it a reality.

5. The individual has convinced himself that he is too old and has missed out. They have accepted the belief that because it didn’t happen when they were younger, it will never happen.

6. The person is not at peace or happy because he knows that he has been called to do something that he is not doing.

7. The person feels that because they made a mistake in the past or did not get off to a great start in life, they can never be victorious. They have developed a defeated mentality instead of a victorious mentality.
The individual has not realized that it does not matter how the race of life begins, but how it ends.

8. The individual is accepting the “good enough” mentality. He or she has lost the passion to live the life he deserves to live. So they have settled for things to be “good enough”.

There are many other danger signs that could be listed, but I have only listed a few. The result of a defeated mindset is that it keeps you stuck and prevents you from moving forward. A defeated mindset keeps you bound and tied to where you’ve been instead of empowering you to move forward.

Now, on the other hand of all that, it is possible to have a change of mentality. This allows you to have a winning mindset. It allows you to have a mindset that gives you the inner strength to conquer goals and dreams.

A victorious mindset is one that understands that where you have been is nothing compared to where you are going. A winning mindset allows you to be happy in the present while working on the future. A winning mindset looks at the expectations and not the situation.

If you think a winning mindset is out of your reach. It is not. It is simply the opposite of a defeated mentality. Developing a winning mindset may not happen overnight, but it is possible. We have the power within us to live a victorious life. As you begin to understand the true dangers of a defeated mindset, you need to get your purpose thinking going.

As I began to think deeply about the dangers of a defeat mentality, I began to realize even more how important it is for us to work on living a life of victory, and not one of defeat.

The 40 MPH Couch Potato and Other Greyhound Myths

It’s a mystery why greyhounds seem to foster so many misconceptions, but new ones seem to crop up with the frequency of urban myths. Some time ago a letter to the editor appeared in our local newspaper attacking the character of greyhound dogs and the training and practice of dog racing caused by the death of his cat at the hands of a greyhound on the loose. This angry tirade spawned a second that spun more inaccuracies about the nature of greyhounds and their training.

I don’t think either of them wrote their letters with deliberate malice. Friends often ask me if dogs are mistreated or killed when races are over. Animal rights groups have been spreading misleading information about the greyhound industry, and for the most part, greyhound owners have chosen to ignore it rather than validate it by responding. This, in my opinion, has been a serious error of judgement. Kind and well-intentioned individuals donate millions of money to animal rights groups and use these large chests to promote many causes, including banning greyhound racing. By not countering these accusations as they come up, the greyhound people appear to be hiding a dirty secret.

HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumble had a story about greyhound racing in 2004 that also emphasized misconceptions and its reporter Bernard Goldberg went to great lengths in this segment to further the animal activist’s cause. The story spoke of the cruelty of keeping greyhounds in small cages all day, except when they were taken out for a run. However, don’t all good dog trainers suggest that we keep our dogs in crates during the day when we’re away and for eating and sleeping? Domestic dogs spend many more hours in a cage than racing greyhounds, as they are usually in the cage while the owner is at work. Greyhounds are allowed to stretch out and relieve themselves several times a day and every greyhound I have ever met is a fan of tee times. Many nights out have been interrupted to rush back to the kennel at nine o’clock. Keep that in mind the next time you stop in for happy hour after work instead of heading straight home for Fido’s ride. The suggestion that greyhounds are kept imprisoned all the time in small boxes is completely false. Greyhound crates are large enough for larger dogs to move around and rest comfortably.

It may surprise most people to learn that one of the big adjustments a Greyhound must make when beginning its life as a pet is loneliness which sometimes manifests itself in separation anxiety behaviors. Greyhounds begin life as puppies with their mother and siblings cared for around the clock by their human handlers. They are then weaned and spend the next year of their lives growing and playing with their siblings in large paddocks tended all day by their human keepers. A year the puppies leave the paddock for the kennel and spend the whole day being trained, brushed, medicated and touched and handled all day divided by naps and breaks with all the other dogs in the kennel several times a day. This continues when they transfer after high school to the race track. When the dog leaves the road to go to a pet home, he often finds himself alone all day while his owner is at work after being accused of having humans around him talking, grooming or petting him all the time. Many people mistakenly think that it is better to start with a single Greyhound as they do not want to bite too much, which is also why they are often in a household where they are the only dog after spending their entire existence with a large pack. friends. Dogs are naturally social anyway and that is why they make great pets. While I don’t advocate dogs taking over your life or taking on more than you can adequately handle, two greyhounds are often easier to keep and happier than one.

In the Real Sports article, the guy with the blacked-out face claimed that the dogs were killed all the time when they didn’t make it to the track. He also said that the dogs are just running machines to make money and that is how the greyhounds see them. I have to be careful how I write here because this makes me angry. As in any animal business, there are bin bags trying to make a quick buck who don’t care about the welfare of the animals, hence the darkened face of the guy. These guys are now by far the minority, not the rule, and they don’t last long in the business. To put it bluntly, there is a lot of back-breaking, dirty, hard work, long hours and heartache in the greyhound business and there is not much money to be made. The day at the kennel begins at six in the morning and ends with final attendance at ten at night. In recapping it, reporter Bernard Goldberg told Bryant that all the greyhound owners were breeding hundreds of puppies in hopes of producing a $200,000.00 stakes winner. While this tidbit might have sounded clever to the reporters’ own ears, to someone who has been in the greyhound business for many years, it’s ridiculous. Nobody would put years and years of hard work towards a goal like that, since it only happens once in a lifetime if you are very, very lucky. The simple fact is that most people who are in the greyhound business are in it because they love greyhounds. They love them as puppies and they love the old mother or the salty-nosed stallion. This is evidenced by the fact that many greyhound farms have multiple pets running around the property and living in the house as pets.

I have often heard that greyhounds are fed poor quality manure with dangerous raw meat from dead animals which often starts to rot and that is why their teeth get damaged. The “slop” fed to greyhounds is a mix of quality red meat, flour and supplements with the exact balance of carbohydrates, protein and vitamins, designed not only to keep them lean, but fat in the animal world. they tend to be slow, and unhealthy as in the human, but also to keep the muscles healthy and with a lot of energy for the sprint. Greyhounds are the best canine athletes and therefore need nutrition to support their systems. The food they are fed costs 2-3 times what a pet dog eats. Greyhound racing is very competitive; in fact, I often liked to break into Hollywood as an actor. It would make little sense to spend thousands of dollars on breeders, facilities, equipment and time to save a few dollars on feed. The downside is that, much like canned dog food, the food greyhounds receive tends to stick to their teeth and cause cavities. The proof of the quality of the greyhound diet is that they tend to live much longer than other dogs of their size.

Greyhounds are not neurotic and it is highly unlikely that an adopted greyhound has ever been physically abused. Greyhounds are very sensitive dogs and abusive treatment will always ruin them. They also seem to have an amazing memory and the mistakes they make in handling them, while usually forgiven, are rarely forgotten. All of an abusive handler’s dogs would fail and he or she would immediately be out of business. The abusive kennel helper would find themselves immediately kicked off the premises, probably with a good beating from the trainer for good measure. When an adopted dog exhibits neurotic behavior, it is usually due to the issues listed above. Although they are called the Forty Miles an Hour Couch Potato, like all dogs, they need to get out and see the world. It is absolutely essential that dogs go for daily walks around the neighborhood. This is their whole world and they love to investigate it. The metabolism of a greyhound is like that of a cheetah. They lie down and relax to conserve energy for that explosive sprint. A couple of times a week to go to the dog park for a good off-leash run is enough – be careful to keep an eye out for the little fluffy ones and the muzzle, just in case one walks in after you’ve dropped your Ferrari. Greyhounds are perfectly capable of learning to remember, you just have to be careful never to let them off the leash in open parks where they might run into traffic. This, as far as I’m concerned, is true of all dogs.

Yes, it is true that over the centuries greyhounds have been bred and trained for human greed and pleasure. Name a domesticated animal that has not. For my part, I am very glad that greyhounds are here and that the racing industry has made them, possibly by accident, the healthiest breed of dog when it comes to genetic disease. Hip dysplasia in greyhounds is, in the opinion of every breeder and racing trainer I’ve asked, (these guys have known and handled literally thousands of dogs) almost unknown and in AKC show lines, according to the OFA database is still only two percent. When tenths of a second separate the great from the duds, great bone structure is a must. Since usually only great runners are used for breeding, things like hearts, elbows, and hips have never been perpetuated in bloodlines. The narrow, deep chests seen in show greyhounds that contribute to the tendency to swell should not be productive for running, as that conformation is not found in a racer. The bone cancer that seems to affect all large hound breeds is generally thought to stem from a previous injury to the bone that often goes undetected during growth.

There are some greyhound owners who still breed too many dogs. Risking that an average female crossed with a great bull turns out to be the winner. These dinosaurs are being driven out of business by economic pressures. If only the best females are bred to the best males, the results will be fewer and better dogs and that means fewer dogs that need to be petted. The shotgun method of producing hundreds of pups to get a few good ones is no longer feasible. Very few healthy, adoptable greyhounds are now euthanized and we are working towards the day very soon when that number drops to zero. Owners, breeders and trainers will be responsible for the welfare of these wonderful animals in their care.

Everyone who receives the great gift of knowing and loving a greyhound knows that there is nothing like them. The day may come when the racetracks close and the flow of dogs for adoption stops. Then the thousands of people who have come to love greyhounds will have to buy their greyhounds as puppies and the price will be high and the demand huge. The puppy mills of Missouri and Oklahoma will smell easy money and then mothers and fathers of greyhound puppies will no longer live in comfortable kennels with large spacious paddocks to romp in and keepers armed daily with poop scoopers, nail clippers, soft brushes , Milkbones. and hugs, but they will be imprisoned in cramped, filthy cages with their own urine burning their unprotected elbows and haunches. Then the puppies will end up in crowded pet store cages waiting for someone to come and buy them with no background checks, no mentorship and not as a carefully thought out member of the family, but out of sympathy looking into those deep soulful eyes. So the folks at PETA, HSUS, GREY2K and the rest can pat themselves on the back and know they’ve done their good deed.
