Third World America by Arianna Huffington, Current Book: America’s Middle Class Economic Crisis.

Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, the sixth most popular online news source, details the state of the country’s middle class. His new book is titled “Third World America: How Our Politicians Are Leaving the Middle Class and Betraying the American Dream.” Read your perspective and see if you agree.

Third world america It is presented in five sections, where Chapter One echoes the title of the book. It’s packed with stories and statistics highlighting the decline of the American middle class. How do you define “middle class”? Turn to self-definition, Huffington says. “If you consider yourself middle class, is it so middle class. “

The nation’s fading industrial base, the erosion of the educational system, and the decaying infrastructure all contribute to the decline; as is high unemployment, where one in six Americans is unemployed or underemployed. Meet Dean B., who, at age 35, was fired from his IT job in February 2009 and is still unemployed. Kimberly B. sold her wedding ring on Craigslist to pay her family’s utility bills.

Huffington further explores the plight of the middle class, citing fear as a predominant emotion. Destroyed 401 (k) s, dwindling pensions, prolific foreclosures, and signs of a future Social Security collapse; feed the anxieties. Reaching the middle class is now believed by many to be a lucky draw, not unlike a prize on a scratch off lottery ticket.

America’s infrastructure is crumbling, Huffington says, with insufficient state and federal funding. Roads, electrical networks, waterways, railways and bridges are some of the victims. Some water pipes, originally laid during the Civil War, are working dangerously.

Think of August 2007, when the Interstate 35W steel truss bridge collapsed over the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis; killing 13 people and wounding 145. Previous patchwork repairs were insufficient.

The nation’s school system is anemic, with the United States ranking 25th in mathematics and 21st in science among 30 developed countries; according to the classification of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In 2009, the United States broadband connection ranked 15th among industrialized countries.

The decline of the middle class in America has been brewing for decades. In the late 1980s, technology, outsourcing, and the loss of manufacturing jobs started a middle-class economy with stagnant wages.

The election of Ronald Regan saw the proliferation of free-market beliefs: less government intervention could better determine society’s winners and losers. Regan also ushered in the era of the great divide between rich Americans and the middle class; which continues today.

Huffington says that an unregulated free market is corrupted sooner or later by fraud and excess. Witness the bank bailouts and the Wall Street debacle of 2008.

American politics is broken, as powerful lobbyists and American corporations rule Washington. In 2010, three examples of regulatory failures due to corporate cuddles were the explosion at the Upper Branch mine in West Virginia; the BP oil explosion in the Gulf of Mexico; and the ongoing aftermath of the financial collapse, including fraud charges against Goldman Sachs. The voice of the middle class is nothing more than an echo in the Capitol chambers.

Huffington writes animated analogies to make his points. When he speaks of influential lobbyists, he says: “And like a swarm of termites reducing a house to sawdust, wealthy interests and their lobbyists are building on the foundations of our democracy.”

Each chapter concludes with a profile of a once successful middle-class American who is now struggling financially. Their stories offer gems of 21st century vision, such as “Stability is long gone, so you better be doing something you love!”

Third World America The title is extreme, Huffington admits, used to emphasize the possible future of our nation, without serious reform. He optimistically concludes that our descent into a Third World nation “is not a done deal.”

Americans are known for being positive, forward thinking, and positive people. Stopping the descent into a Third World nation will not be easy. You will take bold initiatives from the public and private sectors and personal responsibility. Now, more than ever, we must extract the most underused leadership resource available to us: ourselves. We will still need the raw energy that only big governments and appropriations can provide.

Ultimately, change happens at the local and personal level. Today it is up to us to help each other and ourselves. She advocates breaking out of her big bank. Executives accepted the government bailout, paid themselves record bonuses; however, they do not sympathize with Americans facing foreclosure. Instead, work with community banks and credit unions. The greatest antidote to despair is action; and resilience is key to surviving and thriving in the 21st century.

Huffington reflects the message of Robert B. Reich, stated in his concurrently published book, Replica: The nextEconomy and future of the United States. Reich, a former Labor Secretary in the Clinton administration, also backs Third World America.

A book, presents a single voice. Although some will argue Huffington’s perspective, Third world america It is a reading that invites reflection on the present and future state of the nation.

Cannon Mountain and Wildcat Mountain: 2 New Hampshire Ski Resorts Often Overlooked

When people I know talk about skiing in northern New Hampshire, several ski areas come up in the conversation. The most commonly referred to resorts are Waterville Valley, Mt Attitash, and Bretton Woods. These are all great ski resorts, but two that don’t show up as often as I think Cannon Mountain and Wildcat Mountain are.

I often hear complaints about the weather in these two mountains. Wait a minute. We are talking about skiing right? Of course it’s going to be cold and probably windy no matter where you go. I think we wear jackets, hats, gloves, goggles, etc. to protect ourselves from the weather and ski clothing has gone a long way in helping us stay warm and dry. I see this factor as positive. For me, it means that there will be fewer people on these slopes than on the other mountains, which translates to more space for me and less waiting in line. Another point about the weather in these two resorts is that it is a direct result of elevation and vertical. These are the two highest-elevation and vertical mountains in New Hampshire.

The next thing is no night life. The way I see it, “there is no nightlife, no problem”. I generally go skiing skiing. I like to enjoy some adult drinks, but I don’t want to be in a crowded bar until 2:00 a.m. M. Oh yes. I’ve done it and I know it’s a tough day on the slopes in the morning. Quality nightlife is what you do with it. If you absolutely must get out after skiing, try this. Stay in Lincoln and take a day trip to Cannon or stay in North Conway and make the short hike to Wildcat. You can return to your accommodation before dark in time to visit the city.

What about this one? “There is no place to stay on the mountain.” My answer is “Good”. Less development on the mountain generally translates to fewer people on the trail or on the lift line. Also, Cannon and Wildcat are in the White Mountain National Forest and construction is heavily restricted. The beauty of these resorts is preserved forever. I also think that more populated resorts rank higher in magazine reader polls because people who call them their “home resort” end up getting nerdy like all star votes for professional sports.

Lastly, these two resorts are undeservedly overlooked due to their location on a map. Aside from the Balsams Wilderness and Bretton Woods, the Cannon and Wildcat ski resorts are the furthest north. They really aren’t much funnier if you think about it. What difference is there really between a three hour trip and a three hour and twenty minute trip? Not much.

So what I’m saying is that if you are one of the people avoiding these two complexes for any of the reasons above, you should reconsider. Amazing terrain is being lost without the crowds and also with lower prices than some of the other more popular resorts. So next time you’re in New Hampshire, give these resorts a try. I doubt you will be disappointed. Remember this is New England and ski conditions will vary for each trip, so don’t let a tough day permanently put you off.

Here I am, three very simple words, but they can mean a lot when spoken honestly

I’M HERE. Three simple words – “Here I am” – and they mean – I am available – I am available to listen – I am available and willing to listen to what YOU are saying to me – and what YOU have to say to me.

When we speak these words, we never know where they will lead us, nor what the consequences will be, yes, even in 2021.

What do we do when we hear the voice of God, when we know that it is God speaking to me, doing something to get my attention, take over my life and my talents and gifts?

What happens when I say to God, “Here I am”?

1 – I can make a sacrifice that I never thought I could make. That may not be the best start for a message, perhaps one should start with a blessing, but this is a blessing! Look at Abraham again – Some time later, God tested Abraham. He said, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said: “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.” Genesis 22 v. 1 and 2.

God does not test us to qualify us, but to make us grow and develop.

Matthew 10 verse 39: whoever finds his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for me will find it. This is the principle of the cross. I give up something to receive something much better. GOD returns it in a way we could never imagine, but it starts with sacrifice.

Jacob abandoned his plans – Joseph abandoned his dreams – Moses abandoned Pharaoh’s palaces – David abandoned his desire to build the temple for God – Matthew abandoned his job as a tax collector – Peter abandoned his nets – Paul abandoned his religion: Mary abandoned your son. Everyone gave something, everyone knew something about the sacrifice, then God gives something back.

Couldn’t we miss out on the sacrifice part? Not! We give up being in control and God is in control, and God does something.

Romans 12 verse 1 – Brethren, in view of God’s mercy, offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, who is your spiritual worship.

2 – “Here I am” – means that I face a fear that I thought I could never face.

JACOB – He fought with God – his name means ‘scheming’ – but then God gives him a new name: Israel.

And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!” “Here I am,” he replied. “I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, because there I will make you a great nation. I will go down to Egypt with you and I will certainly bring you back.” Genesis 46 verses 2 through 4.

This was the only place he was never supposed to go!

What is the one thing you never want to do? Where is the only place I never want to go?

3 – “Here I am” – I see a miracle that I thought I would never see otherwise.

Moses – When the LORD saw that he had come to look, God called to him from within the bush: “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Come no closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, because the place where you are is holy ground.” Exodus 3 vers 4

40 years in the Pharaoh’s Palace – 40 years in the desert tending sheep.

MOSES asks 4 questions: Who am I? Who are you? What about them? How about this? This problem, the weakness I have, the fight?

Remember and consider the miracles Moses saw throughout the years.

4 – “Here I am” – I hear a message that I never thought I would hear.

1 Samuel 3 verse 4 – Samuel – Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel replied, “Here I am.” When GOD speaks to you, it may sound like someone else, or it may sound like someone else, instead of you.

God’s voice, God’s call, can ruin your plans, hopes, and ambitions.

5 – “Here I am” – I’m going to a place I never thought I’d go.

Isaiah 6 verse 8 – Isaiah has this vision – he hears this voice – Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Who can I send? Who will go for us?” So I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

We tend to say, “That’s a good question. I’m going to consider that question. I’ll ask it at some point. I’ll get someone to consult me about this.”

God doesn’t do that; God does not need to consult; you need obedient servants.

6 – “Here I am” – I trust a promise I never thought I could trust.

Luke 1:35, 37 and 38: Consider Mary.

The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the saint to be born will be called the Son of God. For nothing is impossible for God.” “I am the servant of the Lord,” answered Maria. “Let it be for me as you said.”

This is the promise of a virgin birth: Mary is around 14 or 15 years old, she is engaged to Joseph. The words are slightly different from “Here I am”, but the feeling is the same.

Some may consider that they have been too sinful and therefore unworthy; Others may consider that they have been a failure, that they made too many mistakes, or that they have too many flaws.

“I am a failure, I have always been a failure, I will never be anything and I will never do anything with my life.”

That is no longer true when we say “Here I am” to God, when God calls.

7 – I serve a person whom I never thought I could serve.

Acts 9 verses 10 and 11 – Ananias There was a follower of Jesus in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord spoke to Ananias in a vision: “Ananias!”

Ananias replied, “Here I am, Lord.” The Lord said to him: “Get up and go to the Straight Street. Find the house of Judas and ask for a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus.”

At that time, Ananias did not know the end of the story, we do. Ananias is involved from the beginning of Saul’s Christian life. Ananias had to go face Saul of Tarsus and serve Saul of Tarsus. Saul was healed – and Saul was baptized – because Ananias went and served.

8 – I find a JOY that I never thought I would find – JESUS.

Actually, it is Jesus who finds us – people may say at first that they have found God, or that they have found Jesus – but soon they realize that it is Jesus who has come looking for us – and they call us. This is what the resurrection is all about: He is available to enter any church, any life by the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 3 verse 20 is about Jesus wanting to enter the Church, to be allowed to enter His Church! “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.”

I am available, I am willing to listen, and I am willing to serve, I am willing to trust, I am willing to go.

“Here I am”, ready to sacrifice myself, I have the strength and courage to face my fears.

“Here I am” – prepared to see miracles – and hear a message I never thought I would hear – and go and do what I never thought I could go and do.

“Here I am”, ready to trust the promises of God, and perhaps serve someone I thought I would never serve, and enjoy that joy that is in Jesus Christ and all the other blessings of GOD.

January 2021 – “Here I am” – when God calls – when Jesus chooses – it is because there is a very real need – and He wants you to be part of His plan and purpose.

Answer carefully.

An IJango Review – What is IJango?

The Company: IJango is a new network marketing company based in Austin, TX. The president of the company is Steve Smith. Smith is one of the founders of Excel Communications, the fourth largest long distance telephone service operator in the country. Steve has a track record of building successful businesses. Excel Communications grew into a billion dollar company 9 years faster than Microsoft and is also the youngest company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

The platform: iJango is a new and fully customizable web portal. It can be used as a home page where you can access almost anything on the Internet without leaving the portal.

Unlike some programs, such as Alladvantage and Agloco (which are nothing more than toolbars), the iJango portal can be used as a home page.

As a user: Users of the web portal can fully customize their page to the point where they do not have to leave the page to access other sites. Users can add the widgets of the sites they want to access to their web portal. It is like adding applications to an iPhone.

To better understand what a web portal is, think about the front pages of MSN, Yahoo, and AOL.

On these pages, all the information is sectioned. There is a news section, an entertainment section, a finance section, etc. Companies provide the information they think their viewers want to see.

Now imagine being able to modify these pages to the point where you can even add a section where you can check your Facebook messages or a section where you can group all the bills you pay online. That’s the power of iJango portal personalization.

As a distributor: Giants like Google and Yahoo make money from companies that pay them to advertise on their site. So even though they are free for users, sites like Google and Yahoo still make substantial income from their ad revenue.

iJango operates the same way … except for one thing. The company has combined this aspect of Internet commerce with network marketing, allowing the portal dealers to receive a percentage of the revenue generated by the use of the web portal.

Financial failure in business: how to avoid it

Business is the foundation of the world economy. Unfortunately, many companies fail for financial reasons. In business enterprises, the failure rate is extremely high, especially in the early years. This article highlights some of the key factors that need to be addressed to minimize the likelihood of financial failure in business. The discussion takes place under the following headings:

  • Financial planning;
  • Financial management.

Financial planning

Financial planning must be done on an ongoing basis in any business. It should start with the conception of a new company and continue until the company is closed or merged with another company. However, planning is pointless if the management of a company does not have the necessary business and financial acumen. Management must understand the basics, even if the actual financial planning is outsourced. This includes an understanding of financial statements, cash flows, and financial ratios. They need to know if the business is making enough profits, if there is sufficient liquidity and solvency, where potential problems lie, and how they can fix them.

Financial planning should include the following activities:

  • Sales planning. Without sufficient turnover, no company can survive in the long term. The equilibrium sales must be known. Sales targets should be realistic and support the necessary growth and profits.
  • CREDIT Policy. Credit is generally provided to achieve required sales. However, this is done at risk (from non-paying debtors) and costs money. Therefore, it is extremely important to have a proper credit policy that you strictly adhere to. The policy should include what types of individuals or institutions will obtain credit, under what circumstances, how much they will qualify, the guarantees that must be in effect, the terms of the credit, and how the payment (and the lack of it) will be managed.
  • Prices. Pricing is a science in its own right. Prices that are too high deter customers and prices that are too low reduce the profitability of the business. Therefore, prices should be competitive. The gross margins of a company are the direct result of prices. Gross profit is necessary to cover the financial obligations of a company and to enable growth. The profitability of different products and services needs to be analyzed and should only be kept as part of the offering if they provide sufficient margins or are of strategic importance.
  • Cash flow projections. Various aspects of a business impact its cash flow. Many seemingly healthy companies fail due to cash flow problems. It is of the utmost importance for a company to plan sales and expenses and, especially, when they are made. The money that must be received in 90 days cannot pay the running costs.

Financial management

Business finances must be continuously monitored and managed. Problems must be identified and rectified as soon as possible. Being proactive now can make a big difference later.

The financial aspects of a business that must be managed include the following:

  • Financing. You need to finance capital expenditures and working capital. Planning a business and its cash flows should highlight the need and timing of financing. Financing can be done through current shareholders, through the sale of new shares or through external financing. External financing is expensive and risky for the company. It can cause the financial downfall of a business when commitments are not met. On the other hand, it can allow for much faster growth. Financing should be part of a company’s broader strategy and in line with the risk profile of the business.
  • Stock Holding. Inventory should be at optimal levels. Insufficient stock (with regular stock outages) can negatively affect customer relationships and decrease churn. Having too much inventory is expensive and risky (due to obsolescence and theft). Inventory levels must be determined and managed professionally (using inventory optimization models that take into account the importance of a product, stock turnaround time, and lead times when ordering a product) .
  • Accounts receivable. In general, it is important to provide credit in today’s economy. However, the difference in debtors who pay on average after 30 days or 60 days can make the difference between success and failure (this is clearly reflected in the cash flow projections). Debtors should be analyzed based on their seniority and debtors who do not meet their credit conditions should be diligently monitored and, if necessary, their credit allocations should be revoked.
  • Business growth. A business can only grow as fast as it can generate enough money (through profit, investment, or financing) to fund its working capital. Growth above this is not sustainable and, in the long run, will lead to the financial failure of a business. The sustainable growth rate of a company is determined by a combination of its profitability, efficient use of its assets, financial leverage (ratio of debt to equity) and retained earnings that are maintained in the business. This rate must be closely monitored and its various determinants effectively managed.
  • Expenses. Expense items must be budgeted. Substantial deviations from real vs. You need to explain the budgeted figures and filter their effects into new budgets, cash flows, and other financial projections. In practice, times of rapid growth and good economic conditions are dangerous in the sense that there is a tendency to increase expenses too much during this time. So it can be difficult to curb expenses (especially wages and salary-related ones) in times of economic downturn.
  • Financial coefficients. Proper use of ratios can help management identify problems and take corrective action. It is important to know the profitability, liquidity and solvency of the company, to know where the potential problems are and then how to correct them. The ratio analysis should be done monthly (if applicable) and should be compared with other companies in the industry and especially with forecast and past figures (previous period and same period last year).
  • Cash flow. Everything about the success or failure of a business tends to impact cash flow. Cash flows should be analyzed for potential problems and should be adjusted monthly. By ignoring cash flows for a few months, a small problem can easily turn into something that is out of control.

This article highlights just a few, but very important, issues that need to be planned and managed within a company to reduce the risk of financial failure. In general, the most important issue to manage is the cash flow of a company. All income and expenses and actual times are reflected in a cash flow statement. There is a causal relationship in both directions between all the aspects (which are mentioned in this article) and the cash flow of a company.

Kitchen design ideas for small kitchens

The need for small kitchen designs doesn’t necessarily mean that your small kitchen should be a disappointment. These days, everything is getting smaller: phones, home video discs, MP3 players. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Look at the smallest space available to you as an opportunity to flex your creative muscles. With small kitchens, creativity is definitely needed to make the most of the available space, but at the same time, it can be more convenient and make you spend less time in the kitchen and more in the parts of the house where, perhaps, you would rather be. To really make your kitchen stand out, here are six of the best ideas for maximizing space and efficiency:

Storage space. If you have less room to move around, you need to make sure you make the most of the kitchen’s capacity to store appliances, pots, pans, silverware, and other items that belong there. Nothing is as frustrating as limited space for movement and storage. Therefore, it is important, no matter what final design you choose, to include enough storage space for items that are not in use. To help with this function, you may want to place an island in the center of the kitchen that is capable of storage and use. Whether that means a place to chop onions, prepare meals for the oven, or even a place to grill, the island can combine functionality leaving you with less space requirements.

Galley upstairs. Galley kitchen design is also a great tool in your small kitchen design ideas toolbox. Aligning cabinets and appliances hallway-style can give you the ability to get a lot done in a limited amount of space, thus cutting down on time. This style highlights a key function that most small kitchen owners master from the start, and that is the concept of “two birds with one stone.” If you can do more than one task in a certain location, make sure you do it.

Compact appliances. Do you remember a little more at the top of this article when it was mentioned that being smaller doesn’t have to mean that you are less? Well, appliances are one of the best areas where this compact line of thinking has taken hold. Today’s manufacturers are trying to help you save space, because everyone knows that a hobbyist loves convenience as well as functionality.

Small tables, drop tables and bar stools. The concept of combining functions can be extended to the dining area of your kitchen. By combining the two, you can give yourself the opportunity to expand. Drop-down tables, small tables, and bar stools can turn your kitchen from a food lab to a family center.

Used car prices drop on hybrids and small models

Are you ready for a used car bargain? Consider a smaller model or a hybrid; Recent auto news reports detailed a dramatic drop in prices for subcompact and similarly sized cars. According to the latest trend report, an entry-level sports model saw a price reduction of about 2.1%, while subcompacts were down a whopping 2.8%. Minivans and compact cars also fell in price with an overall 2% drop. Some individual models are showing drops of up to 12.5% over the prior quarter costs, including hybrids; some used models are down as much as 10%.

What’s behind this new pricing trend for smaller used cars?

While standard-size vehicles, SUVs, and trucks are actually increasing in price, buyers are choosing smaller models for a variety of reasons. Falling and stable gasoline prices made family cars and big attractions more attractive. Hybrids also don’t sell as well when low gas prices make the news. Cars designed to save fuel have been delayed in batches for longer periods of time, leading to naturally lower prices.

Lower prices for smaller used cars are directly related to the rebound in leasing seen in previous years. Most low-priced vehicles are known for their fuel economy and are three to five years old. The increase in the leasing of small, subcompact and hybrid vehicles peaked in the period between 2010 and 2012 and was directly related to the record gasoline prices registered in those years.

Now that those leases have ended and gas prices are more stable, used cars returned after their lease term ended have now flooded the market, directly affecting resale prices. Considering recent trends, the price of these vehicles is likely to continue to be low as more cars enter the second-hand market, making a small model excellent value for buyers. The current low price trend reflects models that are between one and five years old and represents a wide range of brands and styles.

The supply and demand rule also applies to the used vehicle market. As so many fuel-efficient models hit the market, prices naturally get lower. By contrast, leases of large trucks, SUVs, and sports models that were not fuel efficient declined accordingly as gasoline prices rose. Fewer large trucks are now available for resale, resulting in static or even rising prices. The latest used car pricing models reflect this continuing trend, and it is likely to continue for at least the rest of the year and possibly longer.

The glut of small used cars and hybrids in an already crowded market means big news for buyers. Consumers looking for a commuter model or great value in a used vehicle will be able to find a surprising variety of options thanks to the latest trends.
