Find your next apartment in Chicago South Loop

Go back to the year 2000 and tell any member of Chicago’s high society strolling down Michigan Avenue that in just 10 years they would be touring a wide range of fine dining, niche boutiques, challenging art houses, and some of the most sought after. of real estate throughout Cook County, and they’d probably assume you’re talking about River North, Gold Coast, or maybe even Lakeview. Tell them you are talking about the South Loop and they will probably laugh at you. Just a decade ago, most viewed Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood as nothing more than the dusty and grimy industrial graveyards of generations past.

Expanding Memomics – Extracting the Data Gems from a Babylon of Bejeweled Information

Memomics, when understood as the study of the Meme, when decoding it in an ontological mapping, is a valuable tool to improve semantic webs and search engines. Commercial and advertising applications provided by Artificial Intelligence agents can benefit from the correlations found as explained below:

According to Wikipedia, a Meme is a term that identifies ideas or beliefs that are transmitted from one person or group of people to another. The name comes from an analogy: as genes transmit biological information, it can be said that memes transmit information about ideas and beliefs. The Memome can be seen as the complete collection of all the memes. If we dive a little deeper into this concept, it can also be said that it encompasses all human knowledge.

Genomics and proteomics are the study of the genome, the totality of the hereditary information of organisms and their complete complement of proteins, respectively. Likewise, Memomics can be considered the study of Memome, the complete collection of all Memes.

In Genomics and Proteomics the study involves different types of “mapping” of the functions and structures of genes and proteins. The mapping can be for example or it can be pathological, that is, the correlation between the expression profiles of certain genes and proteins with diseases or it can be topological: expression with respect to a certain type of tissue, type of cell or organ.

Likewise, Memomics studies the ontological mapping of ideas and terms. One company, Alitora Systems, has taken the first steps in the field of Memomics and guess where they started: with life sciences data. They have developed convenient text and data mining tools that can speed up meaningful search and provide links to most ontologically correlated concepts.

A more ambitious project would be to carry out a complete ontological mapping of all human knowledge. That is, for each existing term or concept, with which concepts it is naturally linked. What I mean by this is not just providing a semantic mapping, which provides the meaning of a term in features and other terms. I’d like to expand the assignments as I suggested in my previous post: “Minerva’s Owls Only Fly at Dusk – Patently Intelligent Ontologies.” That is, mapping the proximity relationship of each term defined in a semantic web with each other equally defined term to know the average distance between those terms in all documents of the entire World Wide Web and the weight of the frequency of such occurrences. Such an ontology map could extract terms that have an occurrence correlation well above “noise”. Many trivial terminologies will occur with a high frequency of proximity to any virtual term. This forms a noise frequency level that is a threshold that significant term correlations must exceed. These terminologies include all kinds of syntactic terms such as conjunctions, adverbs, adjectives, modal verbs, etc.

A disadvantage of setting the threshold too high is that terms that are normally trivial, in combination with another term, could have a very specific meaning.

When this ontological mapping is carried out only within specific segmented meaning classes / fields, suddenly important correlations can emerge, which were not visible in most classes and fields.

Therefore, this occurrence-weighted ontological proximity mapping could be carried out in combination with a “website classification” (i-taxonomy).

Vice versa, the occurrence frequency weighted ontological proximity mapping exercise could provide classes and subclasses. Therefore, this process can be implemented iteratively. Meaningful correlation can create classes, which in turn can extract data to find new assignments and suggest new subclasses.

Another ontological mapping is to determine if certain links on the web have a correlation with certain terms.

The implementation must start with all the information present on the web on a fixed date. This information must be somehow stored as frozen to implement the extensive data mining exercise of proximity mapping. Once the given Memome is fully decoded, the process can be repeated iteratively with reloads and will eventually catch up with the “present” at that point.

Artificial intelligence agents will carry out the ontological mapping process and learn from the patterns they recognize, making it easier to map future events and create more classes. Furthermore, the links thus detected and / or generated that are used most frequently can be added to the appropriate hubs in the “Hubbit” system, which I discussed in my previous article: “From search engines to hub generators and centralized personal multipurpose Internet interfaces “. . Well frequented links will be favored and insignificant links will not reach a permanent stage according to the evangelical adage: “To the one who has, it will be given, to the one who does not have, it will be taken away”, which is also a good metaphor of the form in which the neural links are established in our brain.

Undertaking such a large project would require enormous amounts of computing power and memory and, as of yet, may still be beyond what is technically possible. This is the downside. But the computational power and memory of computers has increased exponentially over many decades and there is no reason to believe that the required technology is not at hand.

The applications and business benefits are numerous.

Chatbots and other language systems can be improved by learning from these correlation maps. Search engines can be improved by displaying results in a ranking based on frequency-weighted proximity mapping. At the bottom of a search, you might have suggestions in the form of “people who searched for these terms also searched …”.

Business ontological mappings can be created where the terms are linked to all companies involved in the trade of products related to the term. Like Alitora Systems, it has mapped how certain disease-related genes are connected to companies that develop drugs against these diseases through a mechanism that involves the associated gene, protein or metabolic pathway.

Therefore, the Commerce Memome (Commercome) could also be created as a search database: the complete set of all business relationships, that is, products linked to sellers, buyers, manufacturers, etc. Comics would map relationships ontologically. Once such an information network has been created, it will have become a very useful and easy way to identify your competitors and newcomers in the field (provided the system is kept up to date).

Advertising could benefit greatly from these correlation maps. In analogy with the suggestions in the form of “people who searched for these terms also looked for …”, technology based on ontology mapping could be used in advertising: that is, based on the same principle in analogy with what happens in commercial sites like “people who bought A, also bought B”, but going a little beyond this principle in an evolutionary and learning algorithm. For example, advertising costs could be linked to the frequency of clicking on the advertisement in question (PPC advertising), while simultaneously the frequency of displaying the advertisement is also linked to it. In this way, again obeying the principle of “to those who have, more will be given, to those who do not have, it will be taken away.” Other business data and text mining mapping could involve mapping the frequency of ad clicks with certain search terms. This could also be coupled with a system that links the cost of advertising to the frequency of clicks and / or the frequency of views. Once again, the artificial intelligence robot that provides these functions will learn from the context and adapt the information display according to the context. Once again, the artificial intelligence robot would generate classes and extract more specific correlations from the generated subclasses.

Queries from the FAQ sheets could be helped by such AIbots, preferably able to converse in natural language like a chatbot. From answers and questions and user satisfaction results, such bots could be programmed to learn and evolve into more efficient information providers.

Thus, Memomics can be expanded to become a valuable engine for mining the data gems of a jeweled information Babylon.

The M&A Patent Due Diligence Problem and How to Fix It

As a business or investment professional involved in mergers and acquisitions (“M&A”), are you conducting patent due diligence in accordance with the standard practices of your M&A attorneys and investment bankers? When patents are an important aspect of transaction value, you are probably getting the wrong advice on how to conduct due diligence. The due diligence process must take into account the competitive landscape for patents. If competitive patents are not included in your research process, you may be significantly overvaluing the target company.

In my many years of experience in intellectual property and patents, I have participated in a number of M&A transactions in which patents were a significant part of the underlying value of the deal. As a patent specialist in these transactions, I was led by highly paid M&A attorneys and investment bankers who were recognized by C-level management as the “real experts” because they completed dozens of deals a year. To this end, patent specialists were instructed to check the following 4 boxes on the patent due diligence checklist:

  • Are patents paid at the Patent Office?
  • Is the seller really the owner of the patents?
  • Do at least some of the patent applications cover the seller’s products?
  • Did the seller’s patent attorney make some stupid mistake that would make patent enforcement more difficult in court?

When these boxes were marked as “complete” on the due diligence checklist, M&A attorneys and investment bankers had effectively “CYA’d” the patent issues and were free of patent-related liability in the transaction.

I have no doubt that I carried out my patent due diligence duties highly competently and that I was also “CYA’d” in these transactions. However, it is now clear that the patenting aspect of M&A due diligence basically conformed to someone’s idea of how not to make stupid mistakes in a transaction involving patents. In truth, I was never very comfortable with the “flyover” feeling of patent due diligence, but I had no decision rights to contradict the standard operating procedures of M&A experts. And I found out how incomplete the standard patent due diligence process is when they let me pick up the pieces of a transaction conducted under standard M&A procedure.

In that transaction, my client, a large manufacturer, sought to expand its non-core product offering by acquiring “CleanCo,” a small manufacturer of a proprietary consumer product. My client found CleanCo to be a good target for the acquisition because CleanCo’s product met a strong consumer need and, at the time, ordered a higher price in the marketplace. Due to strong consumer acceptance of its unique product, CleanCo was experiencing tremendous growth in sales and that growth was expected to continue. However, CleanCo owned only a small manufacturing facility and was having difficulty meeting the growing needs of the market. CleanCo’s venture capital investors were also eager to collect after several years of continued funding from the company’s somewhat marginal operations. So my client and CleanCo’s marriage seemed like a good match and the M&A due diligence process was in place.

Due diligence revealed that CleanCo had few assets: the small manufacturing plant, limited but growing sales and distribution, and several patents covering the single CleanCo product. Despite these seemingly minimal assets, CleanCo’s sale price was over $ 150 million. This price could only mean one thing: CleanCo’s value could only lie in the sales growth potential of its proprietary product. In this scenario, the unique nature of the CleanCo product was correctly understood as critical to the purchase. That is, if someone could emulate CleanCo’s differentiated product, competition would invariably ensue and then all bets would be off by the growth and sales projections that formed the basis of the financial models that drove the acquisition.

Following my instructions from the M&A attorney and investment banker leaders in the transaction, I conducted the patent aspects of the due diligence process in accordance with their standard procedures. Everything checked. CleanCo owned the patents and kept the fees paid. CleanCo’s patent attorney had done a good job with patents – the CleanCo product was well covered by patents and no obvious legal mistakes were made in obtaining patents. So, I gave the transaction the go-ahead from a patent perspective. When everything else seemed positive, my client became the proud owner of CleanCo and its product.

Fast forward several months. . . . I started getting frequent calls from people on my client’s marketing team focused on the CleanCo product about competitive products seen in the field. Given the fact that more than $ 150 million was spent acquiring CleanCo, it is not surprising that these marketers believed that competing products must infringe on CleanCo’s patents. However, I discovered that each of these competitive products was a legitimate design of the patented CleanCo product. Because these knockoffs were not illegal, my client had no way to remove these competitive products from the market through legal action.

As a result of this increasing competition for the CleanCo product, a price erosion began to occur. The financial projections that formed the basis of my client’s acquisition of CleanCo began to unravel. The CleanCo product is still selling strongly, but with this unexpected competition, my client’s expected margins are not being achieved and their investment in CleanCo will take much more time and expensive marketing to pay off. In short, to date, the CleanCo acquisition for $ 150 million appears to be a failure.

In hindsight, competition for the CleanCo product could have been anticipated during the M&A due diligence process. As we later discovered, a search of the patent literature would have revealed that there were many other ways to address consumer need that the CleanCo product addresses. CleanCo’s success in the market now appears to be due to the advantage of being the first to act, as opposed to any real technological or cost advantage provided by the product.

Had I known then what I know now, I would have strongly advised against the expectation that the CleanCo product would be priced higher due to market exclusivity. Rather, it would demonstrate to the M&A team that competition in the CleanCo product was possible and indeed highly likely, as revealed by the myriad solutions to the same problem shown in the patent literature. The deal may still have been finalized, but I think the financial models driving the acquisition would be more grounded in reality. As a result, my client could have formulated a marketing plan based on the understanding that competition was not only possible, but also probable. So the marketing plan would have been on the offensive, rather than defensive. And I know my client didn’t expect to be on the defensive after spending over $ 150 million on the CleanCo acquisition.

Home Kitchen

Let’s talk about lighting

Lighting is a very important part of any remodel and the standards laid out by Richard Kelly (considered one of the pioneers of architectural lighting design) are still in use today. From a well thought out lighting design. To get started, you should familiarize yourself with basic lighting information so that you know the right questions to ask your contractor before work begins on your home.

There are three sources of electric light that are used in most kitchens and bathrooms. They are incandescent, fluorescent and LED. LED lights have become the most popular electrical light source in renovations, but they require special dimmers to function properly. LEDs are widely used due to the low number of watts the light uses, the longevity of the light’s lifespan, and the lack of heat produced by the light.

Once you determine which electric light will work best in your home, you need to consider how it is measured. Light is measured in three ways, flux, force, and quantity. All three are important considerations when planning an effective design. What will I do in the space that I am remodeling? What items or objects will I need to illuminate? Do I need spot or flood lighting? Is mood important to my space? Is decoration important to my lighting design? Finally, one must consider their age. People aged fifty-five and older experience on average half as much light as people aged twenty-five, therefore more light must be added to compensate for this factor.

There are six types of accessories that can be used to add light to a kitchen or bathroom. They are flush, ceiling or surface mount, semi-surface mount, suspended fixtures, wall mount, and portable. A well thought-out design will often include several different accessories, each serving its own function. These features include task, ambient, accent, wall, and decorative lighting. In the case of a recessed can in the kitchen, lighting combined with under cabinet lighting will provide both work lighting and ambient lighting. While pendants hanging over an island are often used as decorative lighting. In a bathroom, wall sconces are often used as decorative, while surface mount is used as ambience.

With so many lighting fixtures and features, the free (natural) light source is often overlooked, but it plays an important role in remodeling a space. Natural light or sunlight has a myriad of benefits. Sunlight is free, it is a renewable source, it saves energy, it provides a source of natural light, it positively affects mood, production and health, and it can warm a room. If possible when designing a lighting plan, include natural light. The two most common ways to bring light to a design are through the use of windows and skylights. To improve the illumination of sunlight through these sources, the use of reflective finishes and reflective surfaces should be considered. If your space already has a window or skylight, be sure to do your best to keep this source of natural light as part of your design.

There are many ways to design a lighting plan, so having a clear picture of the wants and needs of the space is crucial to having the right lighting for the project.

Many options of travel trailers for sale

Becoming an RVer doesn’t mean you have to drive a huge motorhome. Obviously, they are an option if you want something big. However, if you are looking for something a little more manageable, there are many different types of travel trailers for sale to choose from.

Fifth wheel

If you’re looking for the largest living space in a rear-wheel drive option, the fifth wheel is your best bet. This model is built to have a raised front section. This raised section gives the interior a two-level floor plan, giving you more space in the “living” area. The living / dining room is easily converted into more sleeping space thanks to a slide-out design.

The fifth wheel attaches to the rear of your truck, as most campers do. However, this model requires a special hitch on the truck bed to connect. You may need to have a medium or heavy duty towing vehicle to pull this caravan as it may be too heavy to tow with a traditional truck. You cannot tow this unit with an SUV.

The fifth wheel has all the comforts of a traditional motorhome. However, they tend to be cheaper to buy.

Traditional campers

The traditional model is possibly the most popular on the market due to the variety that you can find. When you look at these travel trailers for sale, you will see that they come in sizes from as small as nine feet to large as 40 feet. They can also be pulled by light trucks and SUVs if you get a smaller model.

Models 17 feet or larger are considered self-contained. This means that they come complete with a small kitchen and bathroom. These medium to large sized units also have decent sized storage tanks for fresh and not so fresh water.

There is great diversity in these types of units. You can equip them with bunks, sliding exits, and even multiple doors. All of them come equipped with 120v electrical connections and air conditioning.

Probably the least expensive of all the travel trailers for sale is the pop-up or pup model. Essentially, this is a large tent with a trailer base. When not in use, fold the sides and top down. This allows you to store the unit in a much smaller area. If you own a midsize car, small SUV, or light truck, this model is perfect for your current vehicle.

These folding caravans provide cooking facilities, refrigerator, heating, fresh and waste water tanks, sink and tap, and bedding. They also come equipped with 120v electrical systems. Depending on the model you choose, they can comfortably accommodate up to six people. Unlike other units, this style does not have an onboard bathroom.

The biggest drawback of this model is that you have to set it up and take it apart. Of course, most of them now have a lift system that helps speed up this process. However, if it’s raining, you still need to stand out in the rain to complete the setup.

Choosing from the many travel trailers for sale can be overwhelming. When you find the right one, you and your family can enjoy some quality time camping.

Difference between PDF and Word document

Word documents and the portable document format are the two most widely used document tools. The Word application is a word processing program released in 1983 as ‘Multi-Tool Word’. A word is an editable format that allows users to edit and customize information as per requirement. It underwent many revisions with the latest version of 2007 and 2008. On the other hand, Portable Document Format is a non-editable application. Introduced by Adobe Systems in 1993, Portable Document Format enables readers to easily share information on the Internet.

The Word application offers a large number of functions that a user can effectively implement to suit their needs. Offers various font types and font colors to select from. These fonts and font colors can customize your document. You can change writing styles, colors and fonts using the ‘Change styles’ function. With the attribute ‘Page layout’ you can add margins to the text, divide the text into two or three columns. Also ‘Page Color’ can be added to the document which has the potential to make the text look attractive. Various features of the ‘Page Layout’ function make the document look professional. You can also add artistic effects to the images used in your document. The latest version also equips the user with security features to protect the text content from any kind of alteration.

The PDF application is a supported format. In other words, the document can be shared on any type of computer system with different types of settings. This allows a user to share and receive information and coordinate with co-workers efficiently. Graphics, images or photographs can be used as this format compresses their sizes. This reduces the file size of the document. You can easily transfer the files to the recipient quickly. This format is also safe as it has a password protection function to protect the document from any kind of modification by an unauthorized user. It also gives the document a professional appearance. If the information is required in a non-editable format, Word can be easily converted to PDF. You can easily coordinate and share information with people around the world using this format.

When a company contacts a sample company, it wants to draw on the more than 80 years of experience that market research companies have in this area. Whether it’s increasing sales, helping with an ad, finding the right price for a product or service, or the myriad other areas of interest to the business.

Over the years, I’ve learned what it basically comes down to is cost. If it’s about how much the sample company will save them in the long run versus the cost of the actual survey campaign (s), etc.

Sample companies are so good these days that they can almost guarantee success with a particular product or service. Many have computer programs that can predict future sales based on global survey campaigns. The data received after a quantitative survey campaign is injected into a computer and all kinds of good results are delivered to the buyer.

Decision makers then use the results to make changes or just leave everything as is. The relationship between the buyer and the sample company is vital to this process. The more hands the sample company has, the better it is for buyers.

That is why the market research industry is a billion dollar industry year after year.

When participants take a particular survey, they don’t see many of the facts that go beyond the scenes. They sign up for a program thinking they’re going to make some quick cash and then wonder why they get disqualified for trying to rush through a survey. Sometimes they don’t think about the cost associated with creating the surveys or the importance of the information from your honest responses.

The information a survey participant provides is crucial to the ongoing project or study. Being precise throughout your survey experiences will also open the door to higher paying paid surveys that would not have been accessible if you had not displayed ethical behavior at all times.

Taking paid surveys online every day allows a person to build their profile with particular survey companies faster. Taking time to answer the surveys on your laptop or mobile device will help you achieve financial success in an area you are passionate about. Over time, you will be constantly asked for the highest paying surveys because you have a great reputation for ethical behaviors while taking them.
